There is an inequality in modern gymnastics. Men have 6 gymnastic disciplines to compete in, women only have 4. I've come up with a simple way to even things out.
In men's competition, drop the pommel horse. To a gymnastics judge it may not seem so, but to the average viewer each routine seems the same. Spin around, spin around, spin around, same dismount that everyone else does. So we get rid of it.
Now to add to the women's competition. They share 2 disciplines with the men already... vault and floor exercise. So we could just add one of the men's disciplines to the women's competition. But high bar is too similar to uneven bars. Rings is a possibility, but with the exception of the dismount each routine is very similar. Likewise, parallel bars is just balance beam with the arms. So I think we need a brand new apparatus for the ladies.
Might I suggest...
The upright bar?
