Fallout New Vegas might just end up making you top yourself, that game is so glitchy I can't bring myself to finish the second play through. It gets worse the more you play, a mere 15 hours will see you maybe only begin to realise how broken it it. Unless you get it for PC and theres a new patch or Bethesda has patched it? I don't know, I haven't kept track.

1) Buy a PS3 (with PS2 backwards compatibility) (A PS2 will also work on a budget)
2) Buy every Ratchet and Clank game (That you can play, obviously)
3) Play them.
4) Recieve happiness.

Mass Effect 1; some don't like it straight off (myself included) but give it a second chance before you move on. I did & from my second night on it's been an all-time fave.

Fallout New Vegas is great but still buggy with the latest patch - if you're already in a lousy mood you're kinda tempting fate getting a game that will break quests and crash your system.

Arkham Asylum is indeed awesome but more than a little dark.

What about Uncharted 2? Saints Row 2 is also deliriously fun and nowadays it's a cheapie too.

I say Borderlands, because I was in the same position as you and decided to pick it up. Hours upon hours of fun gameplay (though Mr. Croshaw seems to disagree)but the only thing lacking is story, and I mean really really lacking. But I found it extremely addictive and the dlc is fantastic. Also, it is extremely funny and light-hearted.

The Mass Effect series is sorta dark but I found most of it hilarious; recommend you play the first one and then the second. That will keep you busy.

There's Oblivion if you haven't already played it. Shivering Isles was hilarious.

There are some random small RPGs on Microsoft Live if you're looking for something short and light.

Torchlight is out there (no sure if it's on Xbox...) it was supposedly made by ex-Blizzard people. Must be fluffy then.

Highly recommend Dragon Age if you haven't played it. It has an expansion, and the ultimate edition just came out; it's the core game, expansion, and the DLC.

Check out Just Cause 2. Sure, the story is almost insultingly stupid, but that doesn't stop it from being fucking awesome.

Hey everyone, went to the shops, and I came back with Enslaved and Vanquish.

Thanks for your inputs everyone, if I didn't choose your suggestions, more than likely I already played it. Especially people who kept mentioning Mass Effect 2...

Trust me, I've played it.

. Maybe Metro 2033, but that's a rent first, then buy if you like it kind of game. >.>

Metro 2033 great atmosphere, decent story, neat weapons.
That's probably the last game I would ever reccommend to someone feeling down in the dumps :D

He also said he wasn't really looking for something violent or bleak, both of which Metro 2033 is heavy in.... did you guys read the OP at all?

No. I stopped after he said Fall Out New Vegas. In that case Recettear: An Item Shop Tale was a ton of fun, story is goofy but there is one, and arranging your shop and crafting items kept me interested. Very cartoony.

The Mass Effect games. They're story heavy, provide plenty of hours of gameplay, not any of the games you have mentioned, and while it does require you have online in order to have access to the DLC, it's not required to actually play the game.

Gears of War 2. Horde mode, campaign and online, as well as the DLC modes and campaign co op split screen or online is one of my favorite, if not favorite xbox game. Actually, I take that back, it's my favorite, it's actually the reason I own a 360.
