Anachronox 2 - Shouldn't someone make it?

I was going through my older games and came across my copy of "Anachronox". After finding a fix so I could run it on Windows 7, I started to think to myself, "Why wasn't this game more of a success?" I remember reading the review of it in PC Gamer and how they said it was buggy, but a patch was available for download to address that issue. I even remember e-mailing the developers at one point in time asking about a sequel, but the reply I received wasn't what I had hoped for. They told me that since the game "bombed" (so to speak), they weren't going to focus on any efforts to make one. I don't understand why it bombed though. The game, in my view, is a great RPG, mixed with just the right amount of comedy. So, here's the question then: isn't it time a developer acquires the license to "Anachronox" and gets a sequel in motion? It seems today the market is flooded with first person shooters that have hardly any thought put into them (i.e. - "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" had one of the most confusing plots I've ever seen and I'm not the only one who feels that way). I mean, take a step out of the box and do something that's creatively original for a change. In my eyes, that would be a sequel to this very under rated and overlooked title.

Oh man, I would love to see another Anachronox. The first game was SEVERELY overlooked.

It's great game--maybe down the road, if a critical reevaluation takes place, Tom Hall could head up a sequel.

By the way, Ion Storm in general are pretty underrated--they made one brilliant game with Deus Ex, one great one with Anachronox, one mediocre one with Daikatana, and one godawful one with Dominion. And that's not counting Invisible War and Deadly Shadows, which were both passably good, if inferior sequels. Notwithstanding the millions squandered and the terrible PR, who's calling that a bad track record?

It's important to note that Ion Storm was actually two studios, one was John Romero and Tom Hall's Ion Storm Dallas and the other Warren Spector's Ion Storm Austin. Dallas was a mess, troubled by continual delays, massive egos and internal politics. With the exception of Anachronox, all of Ion Storm's good stuff was made in the Austin studio.

My guess is Eidos since it looks like they published it. On the bright side if Eidos can ever be persuaded to make another one they have a good studio to do it with.

Now that Eidos Montreal has done Deus Ex and they're making another Thief, It would be really cool if they gave Anachronox a shot. For some reason, I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon, though.

Squenix, now that they own Eidos. At least, that's what I think.

Ah... brings back memories. Had to sell mine a few years back when i was in a spot of bother. Won't surprise me if it's going cheap on steam or gog, though. Might have a look.
