is it coincidence that every post is about a PS3 or 360 pissing itself and dying but there hasn't been anyone (that i could see) saying that about a wii?

Once again proving, people don't understand statistics.

Though i like faux statistics, amongst my group of friends the xbox 360 has a 100% failure rate.

Funny. I use my PS3 every day since the launch day and it works fine. I had no problem with it.

Thanks for misquoting me entirely. I never said that.
Wow, that's weird..... sorry about that.

Something must have hiccuped because I just hit the quote button on that post (which I can't actually find now). My apologies.

You didn't by chance change you original post? Strange........

True. I haven't used my Wii since Mario Kart came out. It could be filled with dust and prone to blow the next time I power it on, but at this rate I'll probably never find out.

I'm actually not all that surprised.
I just think that most electronics these days are meant to be disposable.

What I find ironic is that one of the reasons I bought a PS3 was because I didn't want to have to deal with the rrod but I'm glad I got the in store warranty because I've had to replace the thing twice since I first bought it 8 months ago. One of those times might have been my fault; I was replacing the HDD and the thing just wouldn't work any more: maybe I did something wrong.
Easy enough but the biggest problem is that half of the save data I backed up is useless: Burnout Paradise and GTA4 wont recognize it at all and LBP (while thankfully at least allowing me to play my save) wont let me get any more trophies. I don't care about the trophies or playing through GTA4 again but I'm selling Burnout Paradise.

The failure rate, as far as I understand, is pretty low on the PS3's. About 3%. The Wii's failure rate is about the same. It's definitely not anymore then any other gadget.

And this is why I love my PC.
And of course, we know those never get screwed up.
Mine don't, but if it did, I would have it back and running in almost always less than 3 days.

Just how long does it take to get a PS3 sent in, serviced and a fixed/new one returned to you?
Atleast its free mostly. Unlike buying new hardware.

Boy do I have a story to tell, my freind went out of state. He carried his HDD with him. All was fine and good. He comes back home but decides to send it in the mail instead. They think it is a bomb. 5 months later they gave it back to him.

That's because you didn't get a broken one. Even toasters have a failure rate anywhere from 5 to 8 percent.

I have a better story. My friend's 360 got the RRoD, so he sent it in to get fixed. Takes them like 4 freaking months to send it back to him. Apparently all they did at the factory was switch the mailing addresses around and send it right back, because when he did finally get it back, they hadn't fixed a damn thing. Deciding he was finished dealing with the bullshit, he and I got together and filmed the brutal execution of his 360. We bludgeoned it to death with all kinds of various implements, including an old rusty scythe I found.

The inner metal case, however, proved to be more difficult to break into. So we took it to an abandoned parking lot and shoved an M80 inside the case. The resulting destruction was both very startling and incredibly sexy. We were still very much within earshot of the surrounding community, so we immediately got in the car and drove off, leaving the decimated remains in the lot for the employees of that building to find the next day.

Sorry, meant to have that first paragraph in a quote box as well, but messed it up.

Yeah my toaster failed. I put a piece of bread in and five minutes later I got a waffle. I tried to call the company and make them send me a new one.

Well, after the RMA yesterday they shipped out a return container. UPS says it'll be here on Thursday, which means I'll have it in the mail that evening. Their FAQ says that as soon as they get the PS3 into their repair center they will send out a replacement (that is, they will send a different, ideally functional, PS3). If that's the case, I would guess that I'll have the replacement at the end of next week.

Based on my experiences with the Microsoft return service, it's about the same. Both times took 1-2 weeks depending on when it broke and when the weekends fell in the shipping schedule.

The nice thing about Sony's support line was that I was obviously talking to an American, instead of an Indian. The bad part is that she was rather unpleasant. Sony also has more hoops to jump through to get the repair process going (like requiring a copy of your original purchase receipt), while Microsoft's process was completely no-hassle.

Which one was better? Neither, I'd rather the consoles not break in the first place.

Best toaster ever.
