And just like that, Origin will have thousands of new users (ME3)

Well i installed origin for me3 demo and my PC didn't explode, nor did i get arrested for those few episodes of anime on my hard drive. I compared the prices to steam and apparently buying stuff on origin is cheaper in my country, so other than a few hiccups during account registration i have nothing to complain about with origin. Right now i honestly don't get why some people are complaining about it as if its a spawn of Satan. Sure they made their titles exclusive to Origin, but how else could they expand their user base. Whatever, i have no obligation to defend it, i'm just sick and tired of all these 'EA/Bioware evil' topics on the escapist, must be a slow month since people can't find anything better to talk about.

More or less, yeah. As long as I get my games, I'm happy.

As far as your original post, I personally am not in the business of giving a shit about Origin, or even Steam. AFAIK, both suck for not letting me own my games. One may be gentler than the other, but that doesn't mean I want its brand of DRM either.

And don't imply people who just wanna play video games are part of any problem. I have bigger fish to fry than letting myself become attached to, or angry at, some faceless company and how it distributes some bleepety bloopy vidya gaemz. No company cares about you if you aren't throwing money at them, not even Valve. Life's too short to feel indignation at this self-evident truth, so my relationship with any company - be it Valve, an indie dev, or whatever - is limited to "I'll give you money for the games you make that I like." Because I don't like being disappointed, and I don't pretend that these people have any obligation to be "kind" to anyone.

I say this all the time, and I'm still waiting for the phone to ring: Call me when all the exaggerations that people say are gonna happen because these practices are "setting precedents," actually happen. So far I see one, two companies, tops, doing any sort of shit online practices, with throwaway bits of game too.

I've said it 50 times and I'll say it again, this is no different than how Steam first got people to start using it.

Difference being Half Life 2 was single player only. Oh and their servers exploded and nobody could play the game, because they couldn't register their single player only game.

But it's only evil if Origin does it.
Pretty sure everyone hates Origin due to you having to give access to all of your computer files or something like that?
Except you don't, and ten seconds of research will tell you that much.

The EULA is the same as Steam's, but relying on hearsay is much more fun and leads to more people blindly hating something without actually knowing the truth.
Pretty much this. For some reason people use Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Steam etc etc and fill out all their contact info and upload pictures of themselves - but then EA makes Origin, and suddenly people are concerned about their privacy.

As the dogtrainer said to his trainees, bitches please. :D
soo much what the last 2 qoutes are about - Why are people so concered about Origin ? like above wrote, have you ever thought about how much access you allow Facebook to your personal information?, now even google is tracking what you search for in thier search engine and stores it on a server.

Three solutions to the Origin hate:

1. It's a FREE PROGRAM, no different than Steam, and has NO ACTUAL INVASIVE PROGRAMS. The EULA was changed to remove that clause, and now it is no different than Steam's. Seriously, people, grow the fuck up and do research before you complain.

2. PLAY ME3 ON THE CONSOLES. Seriously, the PS3 not having the first game's a bloody ripoff, but the 360 version runs just fine. You're not losing anything of value jumping to the console version. I've been playing it since the beginning, and if anything the controls are more streamlined and workable than the mess that sort of shooter can be on the computer.

3. If you want to ignore FACTS and ALTERNATIVES and still desire to hate Origin, SHUT UP ABOUT IT. We know you think that Origin is the next step for the corporate devils to take over the world. We also know you're wrong, so it is grating as hell on all of our ears when you moan and whine about something you're never even going to use. So please, if we want to use it, that is our choice. Please shut up, and go away, and keep the hatred for people who actually give a damn about your opinions.

And once gain EA will prove that they don't actually need their customers to like them to earn a profit. That customer goodwill is just another marketing strategy that's beneath the big players.

But at least you will be able to play the latest game, that's all that matters right?

I hope you don't have any embarassing anime porn on your hard disk. lol
Nope, never been into anime. Out of interest, just what do you think they can/will do with such information?

And like BF3, you can get ME3 in retail, Origin will just be something that comes with it, like Steam does. Origin existing or not doesn't impact the way I'll play the game at all. All there is to be worried about is the invasion of privacy, but then again, assuming they even check that kind of information for anything that's not immediately relevant to their processes (which I'm guessing they don't), they can't use that information in any way.

EA making a one of their games exclusive to their distribution platform? Wow thats so fiendishly clever im surprised more companies don't do it /sarcasm

All the EA/Bioware/ME3 hate is getting pretty boring now. Im not saying i particularly like EA but making this game Origin exclusive makes sense and its pretty much exactly what Valve did when they were starting with Steam and what Sony and Microsoft do with their games.

Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, MW3 and All the recent Total War games all required Steam to run.. but no, Valve can't be evil can they?

Have EA stopped blocking Origin users out of their games, over forum related reasons yet?
That's another reason why we should not support Origin.

Maybe when EA manage to clean up their up act for a longer period can we consider to thrust them enough. EA will need to earn that trust again, because the small print says they only have to make the game you bought available to you for up to 2 years.

This is useful information. I just checked apparently that was changed as far back as August, I only found out now due to people drowning out any real and relevant news. ME3 here I come. Another question. I read you can transfer your steam copies to Origin. Does that include all DLC for ME1 and 2? Can I use my save files from those games too?

Well I would be concerned if Origin was any different than Steam, but it's not so I won't. The only differences I see are one is EA while one is Valve, and that Origin is newer than Steam is. I've seen better deals on Origin than on Steam sometimes, and since they take the same info anyway I don't see the point in all this hatred. Only thing I can think of that was weird is how Origin ONCE got some dude's phone number because he put the file containing it in one of the folders Origin gets data from, which would've been the exact same if he was using Steam and put it in the folders Steam gets data from.

As for me, I'm not only going to play Mass Effect 3 on my PC but I'm also gonna continue using Origin and enjoying it. I prefer it over Steam right now, and that's only gonna grow as Origin gets a larger library of games.

I feel like the problem isn't that Origin is some piece of evil software, but that it's still relatively new, and somewhat buggy. Obviously I wish Mass Effect 3 were on Steam, as well as all the other EA games, especially given that Steam's sale policy is far far better than Origin's, but I feel like Origin is just still suffering the same growing pains in terms of bugs and stuff that Steam suffered when it started up.

And is this such a surprise? Boycots went so smooth in the gamer community, all those succesfull MW2 boycots and such.
Indeed, hence why I never get tired of posting this image

Meh, I'm getting it on the 360 so I couldn't care less. Besides, as others have said Origin isn't the boogeyman most people make it out to be. It's really no different from Steam, but fear mongers gonna fear monger.

Mouse aim is pretty valuable.
I actually hate the PC versions of the Mass Effect games because of the controls. I'd rather stick with the Xbox versions. It's much more enjoyable when I can sit back in my big comfy recliner, and play the games on my TV with the comfort of a controller. Different folks, different strokes.

Eh. Origin is pretty much a poorly set up steam with less than half the content, and the EULA was changed a long time ago so it is exactly like steams from what I know. Just get the game and keep it off when you aren't playing it. That is what I do with The Old Republic.

I avoid Origin because I've been dealing with EA for years, and they've always sucked. Origin is their next-level suck protocol, and I took it as a sign for me not to buy from EA anymore.

For those who say "steam is the same thing", I'm not sure what your experiences are like, but for me steam has been an excellent service for all the years I've used it, while I've had several bad experiences with EA. There's no comparison.

I find this statement ironic since you could say the exact same thing 5 years ago only replace EA with Valve, Mass Effect 3 with Half life episode 2 and Origin with Steam.

Because I installed Steam due to my unending love towards Valve and their games.

Oh wait. No. I did not.

I did it because DoW2 required it, and so did many other games that aren't even published by Valve...

Well... no, you see, it's because EA are evil. Folk can beat around the bush saying "well they're spying on us", but it's not, it's because we all know they're evil. They've got a history of being evil, we know they're going to continue being evil in the future. They're pretty much the Blackwater of this industry.

If, say, Bethesda, decided to start their own digital distribution platform, I don't think anyone would care. Heck, the only real reason GFWL didn't take off in the same way as Steam is because it was absolutely naff.

One of them won't be me. I'm not getting ME3, however much it pains me - and oh how it pains me! I still think EA are a bunch of wankers so I'm not buying any of their games until I get over my snit. That goes for Ubisoft too.
