I've said it 50 times and I'll say it again, this is no different than how Steam first got people to start using it.

Difference being Half Life 2 was single player only. Oh and their servers exploded and nobody could play the game, because they couldn't register their single player only game.

But it's only evil if Origin does it.
ok for the 50th time someone will try and explain the differences ;)

origin is evil because its a monopolistic strong arm you really cant fairly compare it to steam they dont do the same thing.

Steam enables competition and choice, they sell any publishers product they sell indie games and allow other to compete fairly.

Origin dont.
Except that isnt true.

I don't hate Origin at all. It has not given me a single problem so I don't mind using it. Origin and Steam are basically the same thing but owned by different companies. Steam has more games but I think Origin will have quite a few in another year or so.

No. No, they do not.

Just be glad that Zeel is suspended, otherwise the thread would be in complete and total flames now.
I don't know who Zeel is, but somehow I feel safer.

I'm just gonna pirate it, and get everything for free... Cuz it doesn't matter how much you see it EA always tries to screw the costumer up... so i'm just returning the favor..
And you really don't see the hypocrisy in that logic?

Also, enjoy your warning, owning up to being a pirate doesn't rub too well with the mods around these parts.

Pretty sure everyone hates Origin due to you having to give access to all of your computer files or something like that?
Except you don't, and ten seconds of research will tell you that much.

The EULA is the same as Steam's, but relying on hearsay is much more fun and leads to more people blindly hating something without actually knowing the truth.
Origin annoys people because unlike Steam, it doesn't offer a lot of actual benefits. The store only offers RRPs and its client is sort of ugly and featureless.

Steam was hated way back when and rightly so. Steam was "evil" then, just as Origin is "evil" now. Difference is Steam learned from its mistakes. That Origin hasn't, for some reason, and is just going in using archaic business models with a lackluster catalogue despite going up against the forefront of digital distribution, is weird, and thus, people suspect foul play. People have asked themselves: do I want this program on my PC? And they've decided "no". We're used to these digital platforms now, and we can tell good from bad (unlike when Steam first started).

If Origin was decent competition to its peers, I'd be really happy. Unfortunately, it isn't. Kind of sad. It's quite the waste. EA has shown a horrendous lack of understanding of the market they're attempting to break into and clamber atop of, and it is, frankly, a shame. Steam was the first and continues to innovate and evolve the marketplace, with systems like Impulse and GoG not so far behind (a few going so far to surpass Steam - GoG's DRM-free service is such a step in the right direction). Origin just sort of... sits in its own corner ignoring all of that. It is a disappointment, certainly, and it's no wonder that people won't accept that kind of mediocrity.

On-Topic: I think BF3 drew more PC gamers in than Mass Effect 3 will, ME is very much a console-oriented game... I don't know, I don't have the sales figures in front of me, but I'd wager that makes sense.

I was hesitant about Origin myself but I just couldn't say no to the ME3 demo. Besides I'd already downloaded it when it was the EA Download Manager because I needed it for Mass Effect 2.

So I downloaded and installed Origin. You know what happened? NOTHING! The only thing that's different now is that I'm all set up to play Mass Effect 3.

Seriously, people are just looking for an excuse to ***** at this point.
I've got to agree with you.

It seems a lot of people on this site aren't happy unless they're complaining about something.

Hmm, my tea isn't as hot as I'd like it...

Okay, that is IS.

Will someone explain to me WHY im not allowed to like EA games? Some of my favorite games ever released were produced by EA games, yet im not allowed to like them?

What exactly is it that makes EA be hates So damned much That im not allowed to mention mass effect without starting a bleedin' EA hate cult?

Yes, i don't approve of Origin, but i don't Blame EA for it. Steam is successful, so why not give a digital distribution service a shot? Its basic business.

I really don't get it.
Because disliking EA is the popular thing to do?

I mean sure, some of the decisions/business practises coming from EA aren't the most popular but god forbid a business goes ahead and actually behaves like a business. The sheer audacity of the fuckers!

You may also refer to the following mindsets for your answer:

"FUCK DA POLICE/GOVERNMENT/CORPORATIONS"

"I'm the underdog and it's up to me to rise up and spread the word about the evil faceless corporation"

At this point, Origin is rather moot to me. I don't buy EA's products because EA does little more than bleed developers and their franchises to death as time goes on.

But I would like to point out the importance of competition here; not so much in Origin forcing Steam to play nice (the mega-sales on Steam didn't start because of Origin, nor have they ceased since) but in how it's Steam that's forcing Origin to play fair.

EA revised their EULA at least twice since Origin's launch. The first iteration of which legally demanded full access to your hard drive due to incredibly vague legal wording and definitions (or lack thereof).

This isn't such a bad thing now (the revision, that is); but consider what could have been.
Had Steam and Co. not existed prior to Origin, and had not set the standards they did, then those original terms would be the terms that Origin would still have now, and I guarantee you that the consumers-rights violations would follow swiftly thereafter.

Be aware of who you're dealing with, and know that they can change the rules of engagement on you at any time without your practical consent.
(Much like how Sony holds the status-quo hostage to force you to conform to new terms that are strictly worse for you)

Tangentially: Even mimicking Steam did not prevent EA from banning users from Origin over the most retarded things (including a person getting misquoted).

Yepp. Don't care.
I'll be having fun with a computer on which I have nothing to hide.
Playing a game which I have been waiting forever to play.

Thanks for noticing though.

You are. Imagine a Regenerator from Resident Evil 4. Now imagine it can regenerate even faster than normal. And is on fire. Now imagine that that fire isn't really fire, it's hatred and trolling. Now imagine he can detach and throw his hate-covered limbs around with reckless abandon, and regenerate them continuously. That is Zeel.

I couldn't care less to what people think of me. Bioware has been sending worst and worst games, this new Mass Effect 3, looks like a idiots game, only action and no real strategy. The characters look like a jersey Shore party, and the DLC hell EA so loves really bugs me.

I dislike EA, i dislike the Origin system, i dislike all and every single one of theyre policy's.

So i couldn't care less, i prefer to waste my money with good companies that make games thinking on the players and the community, then spending on incomplete games only made for profit, instead of the fans.

So yeah... gonna ILLEGALY DOWNLOAD Mass Effect 3. EA always works the extra mile to screw the player. Why should i give another extra mile to support them to do that?
You don't like the game but you're going to download it anyway?

I can't possibly seen anything wrong with that explanation ¬_¬

I played the first (wich i loved), and the second. So i'm bound to be curious of how the 3rd ends, doesn't matter how much i hate the publisher company or how the series have been led to.

I wouldn't buy it. But i will download it, only by curiosity to how everything ends. Don't need to be a genious to reach this simple conclusion.

So what you're saying, is that you're interested in the way the game turns out, but don't want to pay for it?

There are ways of finding out how the game ends without being so self-entitled, you know.

2. PLAY ME3 ON THE CONSOLES. Seriously, the PS3 not having the first game's a bloody ripoff, but the 360 version runs just fine. You're not losing anything of value jumping to the console version. I've been playing it since the beginning, and if anything the controls are more streamlined and workable than the mess that sort of shooter can be on the computer.
Hotkeys, my friend, hotkeys. And the mouse.

OT: Last time I used it the functionality was practically non-existent (half the buttons didn't work, adding one friend took 24 hours, etc), other then that, it's pretty inoffensive since the EULA changes.

However, I don't trust EA, and I don't like that they're so obvious in their lying about why they won't just put the games on Steam. My convenience should come before their petty squabbles and attempts to grab some market space.
