No, it doesn't become the law just because some random officer says so, but because some random officer says so, and then gives you a ticket for it! It was probably the law to begin with. But your still missing the point, why create conflict? all she had to do was hold the rail. It not like they asked her to stirp off or anything. By holding onto the rail she lost absolutely nothing and helped the officer in their job. But instead she chose to create a conflict she could easily have avoided and screwed up both hers and the officers day most likely.
Because the police are there to serve YOU, not the other way around. The moment you start giving in to bullshit power trips like that is the moment your country will take one step closer to becoming a police state. You do something like hold on to a handrail for some asshole cop and the next time he orders someone to do something it will be more severe, until they start demanding people to just what you said, strip.
Thankyou.
I agree with this too.

So you did something wrong and got caught so your now crying about it ? I assume you mean the light was green & you could go ? Cause if it was red your screwed and an idiot. If it was green and there are no road markings to the contrary your fine. p.s. in UK signage isnt the road control, markings are. You do what teh markings say first then the signs.
Do you even drive? I was taking a right on red, which is perfectly legal. And yes, I did make a complete stop. I think you would benefit from being more respectful to people in your postings, as well. I wasn't "crying" about it, I saw a thread that related to my experience the other day and I decided to mention it. Do you have a problem with that? If you do, perhaps this particular well behaved forum is not for you, and you can take your inaccurate assumptions elsewhere.
Different countries people. It is legal to make a right turn on a red light in the US, unless the road is otherwise marked. We do not normally use road markings aside from solid, or dashed lines for lanes. However I have been seeing MPH and stop markings more often on the roads.

I was physically man handled while complying in Texas, Texas is also the only place I have spent longer then 4 hours in a cell. They made me stay there an entire night without charging me with anything, and this was after they had me stand hands on the vehicle for an hour, before slamming me to the ground to put the cuffs on. They also impounded my car and forced me to pay to get it back, and I was still not charged with anything at this point.

Nothing compares to the treatment I received at the hands of police in some other countries. In one case I got a broken rib and three broken fingers out of the deal. Of course I am a big guy, and I can see myself being intimidating to people half my size when I am pissed off and shouting obscenities in a language they do not speak. But really I got less of a beating at the hands of police in Mexico and I started the whole thing with them.

I have to say at 36 I've never met a bad police officer in the UK, I know they exist and I'm not making a blanket statement, just that in my experience, they've always been polite, fair and respectful. Please note, I'm saying there's rude, violent, corrupt police, but I've never met one.

The worst I've had is when I used to be very metal, spiked jacket, long hair etc, and got stopped and searched, asked where I was going what I was doing etc, and I had the feeling one of the two was sure he'd found someone guilty of something, which was a bit stereotypical in my opinion.

Anyways, this was back in the 80s and when made to open a chest pocket on my jacket I saw his eyes light up when he retrieved a small foil wrapped package from there, knowing he'd just got me for drugs.

Until he unwrapped it and found the remains of probably a year old Kitkat that I'd forgotten about, then his face just dropped and I was given all my stuff back and sent on my way.

Anyways, considering a simple 5 minute stop n search is the worst I've ever had I can't criticise them much.

Without wishing to sound like an old man going on about 'the old days' I wonder if perhaps the lack of respect shown to the police service is maybe reflected by the attitudes of some of those police officers nowadays.

Maybe also the national press have decided they don't support the police so much any more and are happier to print more anti police stories.

On the other side of the debate, I'm against the huge amount of CCTV covering Britain, as it mainly seems a big waste of money, there's way too many cameras to actually be watched, the quality is awful, and like speed cameras, you have to wonder if it's just another way to send out fines to people for 'anti social' behaviour the way they do with speeding tickets.

She wasn't fined for not holding the handrail. She was fined for not following the requests of the police and then becomming beligerant. The event that started it was her not holding the handrail, yes, but it appears that that factor alone was not the reason she was fined.

Wrong, they are there to serve society, not you. And you also have an obligation to society that includes following the lawful orders of the police.
That's incredibly pedantic...it's basically the same thing. Without people there isn't society so he isn't really wrong.

Only a goddam imbecile would break the law cause someone told em to.
There you go. According to you you're a tard if you don't do everything the police tell you to do, and yet if you do what they tell you to an its illegal you're an imbecile, you simply cannot win. Just because a person is a police officer does not mean that they will not tell you to do something illegal.

I'm 16. I was stopped and questioned for 5 minutes when a policeman saw me in school uniform outside the local doctors. He automatically assumed I was skiving, 5 minutes of questioning during which he was belligerent and aggressive while I answered politely.

Wow your dumb. Yes you can win you bloody trolling halfwitted moron. A policeman asking you to do something is a request, him asking you to do something illegal is illegal. If a policeman is asking you to perform an illegal act he is no longer a policeman.

Please go die in a fire.
Good response. Immature and pathetic a great combination, your family must be so proud of you.

Oh and I think out smarting you proves that I'm not dumb.

If I'm standing on an escalator and some bumpkin goes, "you might want to hold the hand rail" I'm within my rights to tell him to f*ck off and mind his own business. If that someone happens to be a cop I get handcuffed and fined for as many bogus charges as he feels like giving me. That's called fascism.
That's the biggest load of bullcrap i have ever seen on the net (well not really). If a police officer tells you to do something the law demands that you do what he tells you to do even though i don't agree with him. I don't know about a single country on earth were this is not the case. It's not fascism, it's just called the law. And if people could just ignore the police whenever they see fit then there is no point in having a police in the first place.
Please show me the law where it says that you must use the handrail.

I hope they don't come to England, especially when we race down the up escalator or sit of the handrails to go down.
yeah... i usually go up the down escalator when no ones around o_O

oh noes!, there's someone only carrying a box with 1 hand! quick officer, go arrest him ~_~
People really get mad when you use the wrong escalator, but you haven't lived until you've done it.

I honestly thought that only police in the U.S. did this... really... just... what the heck?

I like to stand on the hand rails, I wonder how much I'd get fined for that, damn fun though.
