I just finished reading A Tale of Two Cities for my English 4 AP class*. I was fighting tiredness to finish it so I'd have it out of the way, as I have a busy day tomorrow and really needed it read by Friday.

However, after the end of it, I can't seem to get tired anymore. It was simply too jarringly excellent.

So, what are some instances in which something like this has occurred to all of you, where you really need to go to sleep but can't because you see/read/hear something that simply shocks you awake?

* Yes, I realize I should have already read the novel by Junior year of high school. I'm a bit behind on some of the classics.

It is currently 1 AM, so I am fit for this thread.

I just finished my 5 page English Research paper about starvation and malnutrition in The Great Depression. In which I hadn't started until today and needed to find 3 sources, all of which had to be different types (web, book, etc.) THEN CITE THEM IN CORRECT FREAKING FORMAT. I HATE CITING WORK

So..... that

I get that from TVtropes. God that site is addictive and I will find something cool and think about it all night.
or when my phone goes off in the middle of the night for some stupid reason.

Well I make music, and when I'm involved in a project, sleep becomes the first thing that goes out the window. It's a bit different than having a profound experience with a book or film or whatever.

I'll get an idea, go to my computer and try it out. Then I'll lie down, then I'll get ANOTHER idea, try that out, then lie down. After a while I say fuck it and stay up the whole night working. I get this strange giddy feeling of excitement when I'm on a roll, and I try to catch it because far too often there are stretches where I can't think of anything at all. And, after all, what's a little sleep compared with what I could be making

I get a similar feeling with music. Although, with my level of experience its less the composition of music than it is that I suddenly realize how some aspect of Pro Tools is supposed to work in a "how could I be so stupid" moment and go mix more things.

I still have a lot to learn before I'll be able to get to the sort of stuff you seem to be describing, which is what I would eventually like to be able to lose my nights to.

The Room had that effect on me. Nothing else made me laugh so hard that I woke my mother up in the other room, and kept me awake for hours afterwards.
There's also when I'm having a really good conversation with somebody who I haven't spoken to in awhile. That usually wakes me up right away.

Gah, I know the feeling too well. I have a thought (how can I see the full scope of the electromagnetic spectrum?) and that leads to another thought (the lizards are invisible!) and another (how much is there to this world around us that we just plain can't see through our senses?) and I start writing, and writing, which turns into doodling, then scribbling, then twelve hours have passed somehow and I've got a stack of papers that are completly illegible with strange shapes and even stranger poems about how nice meat tastes with mustard.

shit. . . .I'm having one of those nights now. ah well, nothing for it. might as well make myself a pot of earl grey and try to enjoy it.

This happens to me all the time. It's so bad for sleep schedule, but like all men I'm a slave to the fairer sex, you know.

I am an insomniac and find great problems getting to sleep, even when nothing is bothering me.

Reading the ninth tome of a serie of book I love. Usually went down at 3 am when reading to other ones so I don't plan to sleep for at least 2 more hours.

In the case your wondering, the serie is Tara Duncan, a french serie.

This is off topic, but, John Steinbeck wrote a lot of good stories for the San Francisco Chronicle before 'Grapes of Wrath' that may be of some assistance.
