Seems like BioShock is still fresh in everyone's mind, seeing as that Andrew Ryan has apparently won like, a zillion "oscars" now.

Anyway, thread killer is inside this link [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4mE7oWJrcY].

John(Or is it Jon nevermind...) DiMaggio for(On topic Gears of War) showing he can do a space marine and Bender.
He should get it for more than just that, he was frikin' Wakka in FFX (I think that earns a "o_O"), "random guard" in Riddick (guess you could say space marine), a Vampire...his list goes on.

Winner of everything:
Baldur's Gate 2
Every character had such a unique and great voice that you just couldn't help but see those basic 2d images as something more than that. It's also the one game that managed to have a voice over that only ever spoke one line that I damn near had a frothing fit about:

YOU MUST GATHER YOUR PARTY BEFORE VENTURING FORTH

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH /explode

My vote goes to Linda the Hulking Lungfish of Lake Oblongata in Psychonauts. Easily the most emotionally affecting performance from a lungfish to date.

Otherwise, it's gotta be Sander Cohen from BioShock. "I want to take the ears off, but I can't. I hop, and when I hop, I never get off the ground. It's my curse, my eternal curse! I want to take the ears off but I can't! It's my curse! It's my fucking curse! I want to take the ears off! Please! Take them off! Please!"

Pretty much any BioShock character sets a new standard for game acting, but Sander Cohen's performance was my favorite by far.

Only voice acting here but I thought the characters audio logs in System Shock 2 were brilliant. Before anyone mentions that Bioshock had exactly the same thing going I would like to point out that the characters in the Bioshock logs were citizens of rapture, a whole city, whereas in SS2 they are all crew members of the Von Braun that know each other intimately and all have a part to play on board.

Another distinction between the two I'd like to make is that you really feel for all the ss2 characters without ever meeting any of them while the most important characters in Bioshock have their story told pretty linearly before you get forced into a set piece with them (which are brilliant, don't get me wrong!)

Would you kindly give the oscar for best supporting actor to Atlas?

But kudos to TOGsolid, BG2 did have some amazing characters. Of coarse, Minsc and Boo were my favorite.

I would half to go with HL2(+Episodes) I cried in Episode 2....WHY!?
Mass Effect. It is rare when a game can portray emotion in the way that this game did.
Metal Gear Solid (Series). This game is obvious. It portrays an acting you don't forget. The scene where Liquid introduced "guns of the patriots" was breath taking. The death of snakes
mother
made me want to scream at the television.

And when Big Boss...Oh god...

Chalk up another vote for Manny. But then, having seen my avatar, you'd probably guessed I was going to say that. I second Sander Cohen, his work is some of the most disturbing stuff I've ever heard in a videogame.

I'd also like to nominate Garret from the Thief series. His dry cynicism brought a lot to the game, particularly when describing some of the seedier denizens of his world...
