Android vs Apple

So I'm getting a new phone (my first smart phone ) and I don't know the first thing about either of the two major players. I pretty much need it for university (I'm studying Chinese and I need a translator device), but I would also like to store music on it just so I don't have to carry around my mp3 along with my phone. I don't care about any other features.

So my question is, should I get an Android phone or an iPhone? If you say android could you please point me in the direction of which model (although where I am, everything gets here quite late, so nothing from the previous 2 months or so).

The Iphone is probably better as you want music as loathed as I am to admit it. The android has more freeware stuff so you might be more likely to get a good translator.

Well, I suggest going Android. A lot more freedom with the program but I don't suggest you use a phone as a music player as phone batteries really don't last long.

I bought the Samsung Galaxy S last year and I think its a great phone. The Galaxy S2 is out now as well.

HTC phones are pretty popular as well but most of the time I see people with and iPhone or A galaxy.

I don't think that there's too much of a difference to be honest. Android phones tend to be cheaper than iPhones, because you tend to pay for the brand with an iPhone. In terms of apps, if you can't get the exact same apps on both you can ones that serve exactly the same function. I wouldn't recommend using your phone as a music player actually, as the batteries on smartphones aren't really good enough to function as a phone and a music. I'd say that iPhones are perhaps slightly more user-friendly, but I think the differences are minimal.

Sorry that this isn't perhaps the most useful recommendation, but it really is up to you. For what it's worth, I wouldn't get an iPhone just because of the price difference, but of course that's entirely up to you.

I've got an HTC desire and it's great, so I'll say android, and any HTC from the last year or 2 should stand you in good stead. Iphones are nice but limited, and don't function all that well as phones.

I'd say for your needs the iPhone is the best bet. Android is nice (its what I have) but if you're not bothered by how much you can modify/customise it, which can at times be really confusing/frustrating, especially when things go wrong, and when things go wrong on Android, boy can they go wrong. iPhones are much more stable and secure, and even on the rae occasion when they do go wrong, its not that big a deal, you just restore in iTunes.
One caveat; if you decide to get an iPhone, don't get it right now. Wait a little bit for the iPhone 5 (or 4S, or whatever they'll call it).
