That's a pity. I really like both Tarja and Annette, though I haven't had a chance to listen to Imaginaerium yet. I liked the way that they changed their sound to fit the Annette with more emphasis on the instrumentation. I'm sad to see her go. Amaranth is easily one of my favorite Nightwish songs.

Little bit sad. I liked Anette. (For the record: I liked Tarja too.)

I'm seeing them later this year. Listening to some of Floor's stuff, I'm confident it's still going to be an awesome show. And I look forward to seeing who they replace Anette with long-term.

I don't really follow Nightwish, so I was a bit surprised when I read that she'd left. I liked her, and Dark Passion Play was a good album.

That being said, I was at their concert in Trondheim, which to my mind was disappointing to be completely blunt. They were outdone by the support band (Triosphere, check'em out), however, if Anette was having health issues, I'd forgive a lackluster performance easily. Here's hoping she's feeling better and finds something she enjoys.

It's annoying when a Band's line-up changes because the band is forever a different band. Thankfully the member who writes the music has stayed so the core will be the same. It's just the singing style of the replacement female vocalist (if they decide they want one) will change the type of music they play.

In Dark Passion Play you have an album that feels like it was written with no female vocalist in mind (the demos of some tracks have the bassist singing) so Anette came in and had to sing them the best they could. Then Imaginerium came and took into account Anette.

I hope the next album is written in mind their new vocalist.

Back on my first point, I prefer the current male vocalist compared to the one they had previously at the beginning.

If she was having health issues it might explain when I was watching the live performances done recently by Nightwish, she would hide out of sight when it wasn't her vocal part. I thought it was disengaging and I would have wanted her to stay on stage enjoying the music. But if she was having health issues it's understandable she couldn't do that. It did mean that sadly her stage presence was lacking.

WHAAAAT?

Well that sucks.

Well, I suppose, they managed to adapt to Anette well enough that I liked their new stuff just as much as I liked the stuff with Tarja, so maybe they'll be able to evolve again to match the new artist.

Tuomas seems to be able to write awesome music no matter who he's working with, so hopefully that continues.

And of course I wish Anette well in her future endeavors, etc., etc.

Wow, that's surprising news. I was never that fond of Anette in the first place, but After Forever were a great band so it'll be interesting to hear Floor take the... floor.

The beginning? Didn't Tony Whats-his-face from Sonata Arctica sing a lot of their old stuff? I know he did at least one song, and pretty sure Marco didn't sing at all back then.

The first time I heard Marco sing was I Wish I Hand An Angel and I cracked up at how bad and out of tune he was. He's grown on me since then, and I think he sounds great in Delain. The album version of The Gathering is so much better than with just the chick singing.

I liked both Tarja and Annette. Tarja with the old songs, Annette with the new ones. I thought the band was doing good, and with Annette had opened a new chapter. Apparently that chapter was really short... I wonder how the band will do now, and if they can find a new singer that can match the previous two. Not necessarily in style (though that would be awesome, as yet another change in music style to fit a new singer would be...meh...) but at least in quality and energy of voice.

I've enjoyed both singer's performances over the years, but I feel like this could cause the slow downfall of Nightwish........or it's just some crazy-assed publicity stunt. You never can tell with famous people.

I would like them to do more with male vocals. I love all their albums and all, but I would just like to hear a male vocalist doing "Nemo" with more of a baritone style. I don't think they should not have a female vocalist though.

Maybe they should pick up the girl that did backing vocals for Kamelot on their last US tour (not the current one with Nightwish, the one with Alestorm and Blackguard). She was really good and would find their sound nicely.

It's always somewhat surprising to notice how big they, and some other Finnish bands, are around the world.

Not quite my cup of tea, and I don't listen to them that much, apart from what I hear on the radio and so on. Whatever route the band stylistically wants to proceed on. It's going to be different anyways, again, so might as well try a very different vocalist; a male singer or a woman with a noticeably different kind of voice scale than Tarja or Anette.

If Floor Jansen continues to be the singer after the tour, I will legitimately start liking Nightwish as more than just an occasional guilty pleasure. I think she is one of the best singers in power metal, and miles better than either of the singers Nightwish has had.

I will probably be attacked and strung up to the nearest tree for saying this but...

I always thought Amy Lee was the lead singer.

Maybe the next one will stick around? Maybe?

Whatever. The Nightwish I fell in love with is long dead, but folks seem to enjoy the new Nightwish just as much. I'm sure they'll adapt to another new vocalist in time.

Must say Marco seems to be in a lot of the bands i listen to, lurking...
As for Nightwish i started listening when Annette joined (im so young :p ) so the whole youtube comments thing i can't really understand- they're both good :D. (As is floor jansen, now you made me wanna go listen to some after forever you gits! :p .)
Hopefully Annette will be on good terms after the tour ends, and NW wont repeat the last debacle ;) On the upside means she may have more time to do work with Pain :) (No i can't spell the guys name.) If you haven't yet go have a look! :)

That would be Evanescence :p

But I can see the similarities looks and sometimes song wise to Nightwish.

THE ESCAPIST FORUMS have heard of Nightwish?!?!?! I'm officially confused to the point of physical illness.

What's next? A petition to have classic Arch Enemy featured on an episode of Tropes VS Women?
There are more metalheads here than you'd think, we generally have something where people post their favourite rock/metal at least every two weeks.

OT: Makes you wonder whether if it's the band that's the problem, not the singer. Looking at the wikipedia graphic, you'd think that they decided they didn't need a bassist early on in their history, and decided to drive away as many singers as possible...
