OT: Makes you wonder whether if it's the band that's the problem, not the singer. Looking at the wikipedia graphic, you'd think that they decided they didn't need a bassist early on in their history, and decided to drive away as many singers as possible...
I have been starting to wonder if maybe they are just a hard band to work with, and a lot of people point to Tuomas as being the hardest. Although as far as things appear the situation with Anette leaving has been nothing close to the public firing of Tarja. This one seems as though it is more of a mutual agreement.

And I was just getting used to Anette too. :/

Well, they're talented enough to get someone to come in and play with them.

Still rather sucks that they just can't seem to keep a stable singer with them, maybe it's the band's attitude since she isn't communicating well with them it seems.

well, turns out that andrea berg wont be ringing in the musical apocalypse. was a stupid suggestion from a fan.

turns out that Floor Jansen will replace her for the tour.

so. yay?
You are correct, Floor has already done a performance this tour in Seattle I believe. I'm not sure if she is going to be a permanent singer though. I was just curious as to where you heard that.

LOL are you serious? I'm not sure there's EVER been a music topic that doesn't bring them up on here. They are so known to the point of cliché. And just about every person on the board has asked me if my username comes from one of their songs.

Which would be more accurate if my username wasn't a stage name that predated the song by about a decade, but STILL.

That would be Evanescence :p

But I can see the similarities looks and sometimes song wise to Nightwish.
Especially since Amy Lee and the original singer for nightwish both sing in annoying, nasally tones.

I was heartbroken when I heard about Anette leaving. I had no ride to go to the Toronto show on Sept 20th, and seeing as that would've been her last show there makes me sad. Had a feeling it was related to her overall health since she seemed to get sick frequently during the tours (but shitwow, liver ulcer?). I hope she does come back onto the music scene eventually though. She was a good singer and seemed very sweet. I have a friend in California that shook her hand.

In some strange and bizarre alternate universe where the top 40 is dominated by nothing but heavy metal music they would be right at home writing music for like 3-4 separate bands who in turn couldn't write their own music to save their own worthless hides.

And naturally, being strange and bizarre alternate universe metal-heads we would all be having absolutely none of it, refusing to sell out to the corporate machine and listening to some under appreciated underground musician like Kayne West. :p

Eh. Nightwish has been steadily getting less interesting to me as it's become more and more obvious they're less "good" and more "got there first.". A new new singer won't help that.

They've put out 7, maybe 8 really good songs inside 7 albums. And really.

What's next? A petition to have classic Arch Enemy featured on an episode of Tropes VS Women?

I'm a bit late to this (I'm new here). I was surprised to find a Nightwish thread on here too, albeit pleasantly.

I'm very sad to see Anette go. I genuinely love both her and Tarja's work. I'm in a sort-of limbo where I can easily admit that Tarja is the better singer (whatever way you look at it, different styles etc. There are ultimately fewer people in the world who can sing like Tarja does. It's world class.) Yet I still prefer the albums with Anette (that's been my general opinion for the past year or so, anyway).

I'm going to see Nightwish on Wednesday. Bitterly disappointed Anette left before I saw them live, mostly because I adore Anette's wicked, witch-y vocals in Scaretale, and she's AWESOME with that song live. But I'm also disappointed because Anette is a genuinely lovely person and just brings a with her a very happy presence. It's difficult to articulate that, and it's not something I've ever noticed about a band member before, but yeah she just seems like a genuinely pleasant person.

Also late to this, just to say I saw Nightwish on Sunday and Floor is a fantastic vocalist, hope they take her on permanently (unlikely though)

But very sad to see Anette go, really good singer, especially on Imaginaerum (though never quite as good as Tarja in my opinion, but she was something else)

Hope they still manage to keep up the awesome new material, such a shame if this leaves the band with less than their usually fantastic form

P.S. first post on the escapist!

I like the direction Nightwish took when they got her. I just hope they continue to improve
The first CD I picked up of theirs was "Dark Passion Play," even though I spent literally days watching videos on youtube. My favorite song will always be "10th Man Down," but I loved Annette's voice just as much as Tarja's. I just really hope their next lead singer is up to the task of matching the previous singer's skills.
