Angry PC Gamer Skips MW2, Sends 60 Bucks to DICE Instead

A PC gamer unhappy with DICE [http://www.infinityward.com/] instead.

A quick refresher: Infinity Ward stirred up a hornet's nest last month when it announced that dedicated servers would be dropped [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95584-No-Dedicated-Servers-for-Modern-Warfare-2-PC-Fans-Freak-Out] from the PC release of Modern Warfare 2 in favor of the peer-to-peer functionality used in the console versions. Community guy Robert Bowling did his best to spin it as a positive but with little effect; saying PC gamers were unhappy with the change would be like describing Niagara Falls as a bit dampish on Thursdays.

For DICE, the studio behind attract some attention [http://badcompany2.ea.com/#/home] to its own military-themed shooter. The company posted a "Dedicated Server FAQ" on its blog, expounded upon the many advantages of dedicated servers (which it wholeheartedly supports) and promised that it would never turn its back on loyal PC gamers.

The maneuver made a big impression on at least one fed-up PC gamer: A guy named Eddie J. from New Jersey, who, instead of buying Modern Warfare 2, sent a check for $60 to DICE instead, along with a note thanking the studio for standing behind dedicated servers.

"Use the money for whatever, but I would prefer it be spent on development of Battlefield: Bad Company 2," he wrote. "I would really prefer it be spent on the PC version of BF: BC2... and I really really prefer it be spent on PC dedicated server support for BF: BC2. ;)"

Rumors that DICE actually intends to use the money to buy a pack of smokes and a couple cases of beer remain unconfirmed, but no matter how it gets blown, it was a damn fine gesture and I tip my hat to you, Eddie. Well played, sir. Well played.

DICE, the studio behind Battlefield: Bad Company 2... promised that it would never turn its back on loyal PC gamers.
I would like to direct your attention to the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 1.

Wait, I can't find it...

Well at least he put his money where his mouth is.

I suppose that he'll just miss out on a great game though.

Maybe a whole load of guys will do this and Bad Company 2 team will end up being given so much money that the game will come out for free because everyone's already payed them all the money they need?

A man can dream...

An interesting idea to say the least - it's amazing how badly Infinity Ward have seemingly messed up - no PC dedicated servers, no Party chat on the 360 version...

Two key features for each system - they too have lost respect in my eyes if the following issues remain simply because of how out of touch they seem to be with the majority. I'm not angry enough to cancel my pre-order because it's a move I can live with, but that's a great gesture by the "Angry PC gamer", even if the article did appear to mock him towards the end.

You get a cookie Eddie, but it would have been a chocolate chip cookie if you'd sent it to Childs Play [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child%27s_Play_%28charity%29] instead.

But seriously, enough of the MW2 please? Some of us are feeling it akin to the latest on Jordan and Peter in the gaming news.

I see this whole controversy as just more proof of the sad, sad fact that multiplayer makes the game these days.

I do have to say, DICE took advantage of Infinity-Ward's ineptitude quite well on this one. It actually makes me tempted to try get B:BC2 on the PC myself.

Although the main reason I am getting MW2 is for the single-player ONLY. I really enjoyed the CoD4 single-player, and want to see it continue, not to mention get to play alongside Soap from the first game.

I found the multiplayer in CoD4 to be somewhat... broken. Shooting a guy 5 times with stopping power only to have him shoot you twice with a weaker weapon and you die, no lag compensation, 'noobtube', nadespam, the fact that almost NO-ONE talks at all or even seems to own a mic... yeah...

Kudos to him. I and my friends all decided to drop MW2 when the new came out. Unlike eddie however, I can't afford to make a particular statement with my cash.

Us PC gamers are an angry tribe, mistreat us and we'll impale your head on a stick sooner than you can say 'equal experience across all platforms'
How DARE you say that. *Fetches pike*

OT: The guy's a fool, no one's played Bad Company 2 yet. Get them both, in my opinion.

I think it's hilarious, while the creators of MW2 say "we know what's better" while the internet screams "no you don't because we want this" I honestly think that this will get their attention more than the petition.

It always blows my mind when a company hears the entire internet complain and they simply reassure us that we'll like it. No, we wont, we know what we want and like, can you please just listen you idiots?

Way to go dude. I say aslong as he could afford to do something like this, then more power to him.

It's nice to someone put their money where their mouth is. If a few of the L4D2 boycotters had done something like this they probably would not have received as much ridicule. Then again, the people who ridiuled this guy would not have had their tune hanged.

I'll support DICE again when they announce Battlefield 3, not some shitty console port. I do appreciate the man for doing this, but Bad Company 2's server system, from what I can tell, forces you to use their servers, or buy a server from them, which is only slightly less bad than a matchmaking list (still much better than P2P).

I'll admit DICE is better than Infinity Ward at it's current state, but being better than Activision under Bobby Kotick is like speaking better than a mute, so I'm not going to cheer them on unless they actually do something good (aka Battlefield 3).

DICE should make a battlefield 2 except with bad company graphics and the ability to blow up almost everything and BFBC only has 24 players for PC so MW2 is still better

Saying DICE supports dedicated servers is like saying Stalin harbored vague ideas about socialism.
DICE take dedicated servers to their logical and expensive extreme, by retaining full control over them and charging through the nose for their use.
Infinity Ward were idiots to not support Dedicated Servers, but DICE are, if anything, the argument Against Dedicated Servers.

i still cant see why there was more of an uproar over the lack of dedicated servers than to the price hike.I know it only effects the uk at the moment but doesnt anybody else see where this will end.
