I'm impressed with Eddie's devotion to his cause. Admittedly, it's a strange cause, but he's devoted to it nonetheless.

Now, I wonder what would happen if everyone who Internet Boycotted or petitioned against a video game did something like this?

Way to lose a sale, Infinity Ward. Not that it'll make any difference in the longrun, MW2 is already more popular than Halo 3 at its launch, but I can't help but wonder if this all could've been avoided if you had devoted servers.

It's amazing how badly Infinity Ward have seemingly messed up - no PC dedicated servers, no Party chat on the 360 version...
Really? No party chat on the 360 version? Damn...

Not to mention all the 360 sales they're losing (like mine) due to not supporting Party Chat.

Too bad this is the same developer that forgot about the PC gamers with the first BC game. I'm sorry, but not only is this battlefield game not the one that PC gamers want, but it's the wrong way to vote with yer wallet. What a complete waste of 60 bucks.

Awesome idea. But he's still down $60... I suppose it's the principle.
I'm kinda hoping that they send him a free copy of their next PC release, as it would be little expense to them. And it should be some time in the future so the likelihood of it being turned into some PR spin would be small (I think). They'd have some respect from me if they did that, not puffing up their chests and bellowing PC Gamer warcrys.

This whole sever controversy has really passed me by, but I'm not that much of a multiplayer gamer.

i still cant see why there was more of an uproar over the lack of dedicated servers than to the price hike.I know it only effects the uk at the moment but doesnt anybody else see where this will end.
O theres something new now. The cap on multiplayer is 9 vs 9.................yeah.

I see this whole controversy as just more proof of the sad, sad fact that multiplayer makes the game these days.
I agree. The medium is saturated with games with poor single-player experience because all developers seem to care about is making the games about multiplayer. Exactly how many first-person shooter multiplayer games do we need anyway? Modern Warfare 1 had the best of both worlds, but these days good stories are being overlooked in favour of more and more multiplayer shooters. I myself prefer the single-player aspect of games, as long as they're of good quality. Understandably, I don't buy many shooters.

OT: This guy has guts, that's for sure, sending his money away to a company in the hope that they'll actually spend it on something worthwhile. Either he has more money than sense, or he is really, really dedicated to his multiplayer games.

It's a noble gesture, but is he also buying the game? If so, he just gave that company $120 dollars (well, not a whole $120 because of retailers and publishers taking their cut and all, but you see my point). Is this controversial decision really worth over $100 to you? You could have just not bought MW2 for the PC and bought BC2 instead, and your vote would have counted just as much.

I'm getting MW2 for 360 simply because most of my friends don't have a badass gaming rig like I do, so that's where they will be; but what's this I hear about no Party Chat?

...Why didn't he do something worthwhile, like donate it to Child's Play or the Desert Bus (I BELIEVE that's a charity? Anyone from LRR care to correct/confirm?)?

There are statements, there are stupid statements, and there are wastes of money. This was just a waste of money.

I am also well aware that if he'd donated sixty dollars to Child's Play, I would have pointed out that thousands of people do that, and he's the only one that seems to make a fuss about it, but at least a children's charity would have benefitted.

DICE, the studio behind Battlefield: Bad Company 2... promised that it would never turn its back on loyal PC gamers.
I would like to direct your attention to the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 1.

Wait, I can't find it...
who says the fact that there was no pc version is a bad thing? honestly, probably the only reason i actually liked bad company is because im a whore for the battlefield games. its mp is good, but nowhere near as good as previous battlefield games, and the single player absolutely sucked.

Meh. My comp can't run MW2, and I never even played MW1 online(heresy, right?). Still loved it.

Hum, other than saying the typical, "It's a shame what Infinity Ward is doing to this game," I'm instead going to say that it is conspiracy theory time:

Due to the fact that Modern Warfare 1 sold like it was bundled with the cure for cancer and the fact that the Modern Warfare 2 pre-order sales are through the roof, Infinity Ward has realized that they now have enough money for every one of their employees to live comfortably with their families(or hookers) on a secluded beach in Kokamo, delightfully sipping margaritas for the the rest of their lives. They have decided, as a group, to retire and pass the torch of great PC FPS developer to another company. After much deliberation they decided the only way to properly do this was to sabotage their own game(because if it hit the market unhindered, no other FPS would ever surpass it) so more push could be put behind development of a version BF:BC2 on the PC. They payed Eddie J. to set a precedent that would hopefully be followed by the rest of the PC gaming market, because Infinity Ward's PC sales for Modern Warfare 2 is all that would be needed to have DICE running smoothly for the next decade.

The sad part, Modern Warfare 2 was going to be the messiah of gaming. It was going to be the first ever, perfect game that would render all other FPS, current and future, obsolete. Oh well, A BF:BC2 port is nice too.

(No offense meant to anyone, especially DICE. I love BF:BC)

Maybe a whole load of guys will do this and Bad Company 2 team will end up being given so much money that the game will come out for free because everyone's already payed them all the money they need?

Ah yeah, a donation to Desert Bus is a donation to Child's Play, but with the added bonus of torturing Graham and Paul! :D

Yeah, that's a worthy cause! :D

EDIT - I r did teh reseertch!

EDIT 2 - "Simon" is not part of LRR, Unskippable, or anything else to do with the Desert Bus. I, of course, meant Paul.

Thats not true look at dragon age origins, fallout 3, red faction guerrilla, uncharted 2. Its just in the case of mw 2 is is important since the mp in cod 4 was the main reason it was so popular the single player was nothing special

I honestly think this entire thing is being blown way out of proportion. Heaven forbid that the gloruis PC master-race has to pay the same price or deal with the same bullshit console gamers do. However, ad a matter of principal, this is pretty damned funny. Probably won't amount to Jack shit compared to DICE's budget, but it's an interesting gesture. I prefer Battlefield anyways. I think DICE should go back to making games like Battlefield 2.Christ that game is fun.
