I dont know if anyone has heard about this but basically this guy wants to give animals legal rights. So in effect they could take you to court.

I can only imagine if this actually went through and this guy ended up gaining power.

Edit: More article fun!

Heh, I'd like to see an animal try to sue me and live.
You don't see animals communicating on the same level as us. It would be impossible. and what use would they have for Human money.
If this is true, that guy must be one of the bluntest tools in the shed...

Er... what kind of animal has the intellgience to be able to file for a court case, negotiate and pay for a lawyer, and give an account of events during the case? Oh wait yeah. None.

How does an animal let anyone know they want to take you to court, assuming that they know what a court is...

Ridiculous idea, people like him should be shot for their stupidity.

Ha, if that actually goes through, who would be the lawyers? I mean despite the obvious reasons, this idea doesn't seem to be well thought out. Hmmmm, I shall protest by buying as much bacon as I can.

...What the hell? What would a deer being hit by a car sue for? Medical expenses? It has no need for money. Be easier just to shoot the damn thing and put it out of its misery.

Jeez... I will never understand why anyone would think this is a good idea.

How the hell would the animals bring up a lawsuit? They can't talk.

how would they present their case in court much less.

I can see an animal rescue group like the Humane Society suing abusive pet owners on the behalf of the animals they rescued. In fact I'd kinda like to see it happen. They could then use the money they won to help fund their programs. I draw the line at PETA though, too many nut jobs.

It's too bad this guy has taken what should be a logical ideal--that animals shouldn't be abused or mistreated--and taken it to an extreme that will taint saner individuals in this kind of light. This is the same problem I have with PETA. While the basic idea might be sound, they go way too far in their efforts. I don't think anyone has a problem with anti-abuse or anti-neglect laws (and having worked in an animal industry, I can definitely attest to the need for harsher punishments and more implementation of the laws; what some people do to their animals is sick). But the practicality of granting animals the exact same rights as people is just absurd. The fact of the matter is they can't represent themselves, which is why we should do our part to protect them. But protection and conservation differ greatly from what this man is proposing. Again, it's a shame such a cook is one of the faces of the animal rights movement.
