like others, I am also tempted to change my avatar to something that does not fit those rules.

Holy crap that avatar took me by surprise! Curse you!TimeLord said:I have an avatar that moves when you don't look at it. Not sure how that counts to any of your points![]()
And other people have been wrong.Z of the Na said:As others have said, you can easily disable avatars if they bother you so much. :/
Don't forget to add "No lame looping game-sprite animation that clearly show you were far too lazy to make something worthwhile beyond one 16-bit character doing the same stupid action animation over and over again". Seriously people, if the best you can do is just rip a gif from some sprite sheet you found on the internet, you shouldn't even bother trying.Souplex said:snip

I love the names here on the Escapist, they're all so memorable and unique.

the avatar he put forth that "get's" it right doesn't seem to be enhanced at all by animation. You can tell perfectly fine what's it's supposed to be from a still. In fact it's barely animated at all.
Meanwhile your avatar is made far for more interesting to look at by making it move. A still picture of a dog in midair, landing, or taking off from the ground isn't nearly as majestic or visually appealing as one peacefully running through flowers.
Ironically my avatar is as simple as they come yet fully complies with your rules...Souplex said:Rules for making a good animated avatar:
1. The motion should loop well. Otherwise there's that awkward frame where it jumps back.
2. No moving camera. Otherwise it's disorienting when it jumps back.
3. Keep the animation short. It's obnoxious if it drags on for too long.
4. No obnoxious bright flashes.
5. Keep it contained to one shot.
Follow these simple rules and you'll do fine.
