I have an avatar that moves when you don't look at it. Not sure how that counts to any of your points :p
Holy crap that avatar took me by surprise! Curse you! :p

OT: I do believe mine follows the rules nicely.

How about no.
No wait, I have something for this.

So yeah ... my avatar breaks these rules.

1. Screw it, jump cuts ALL the way~!

2. Well ... it changes angles?

3. Well I keep to this one.

4. Is mine too bright?

5. Heeeeeeell NO!

But overall my feelings is summed up in this video or by my own avatar

*Look at my avatar*
:)
-_-

Sorry but I like having the freedom to choose my own avatar.
Though I did make sure it didn't screw the site up or anything.

EDIT: Also it's of my favorite anime character so I wouldn't change it anyway!

As others have said, you can easily disable avatars if they bother you so much. :/
And other people have been wrong.
If there were a way to selectively turn off bad avatars, that would be another case.
We all use these forums, we should try to make them a nicer place.
You don't walk around your neighborhood naked, you shouldn't use a bad avatar.
Yes, I could close my eyes, but I shouldn't have to, because you shouldn't be naked.

The cat-ception in my avatar is too awesome to be animated. Yes it is a cat hugging a cat hugging a cat.

Don't forget to add "No lame looping game-sprite animation that clearly show you were far too lazy to make something worthwhile beyond one 16-bit character doing the same stupid action animation over and over again". Seriously people, if the best you can do is just rip a gif from some sprite sheet you found on the internet, you shouldn't even bother trying.

Well I didn't even create mine, much like a free toy car out of a box of cereal, mine came with a special edition of Fallout: Tactics. Modified to fit in the site requirements, his pixellated looping menace-walk fits all your guidelines anyhows.

It's interesting...

the avatar he put forth that "get's" it right doesn't seem to be enhanced at all by animation. You can tell perfectly fine what's it's supposed to be from a still. In fact it's barely animated at all.

Meanwhile your avatar is made far for more interesting to look at by making it move. A still picture of a dog in midair, landing, or taking off from the ground isn't nearly as majestic or visually appealing as one peacefully running through flowers.

You forgot the rule about how it needs to be a cat avatar.
Where as I do like cats. I don't think it would fit with the name. FYI I LOVE that I could get this name.

I love the names here on the Escapist, they're all so memorable and unique.

That's the thing :D

When Ammy runs, flowers sprout in her wake, with a still picture of my avatar, you wouldn't see that.

Rules for making a good animated avatar:
1. The motion should loop well. Otherwise there's that awkward frame where it jumps back.
2. No moving camera. Otherwise it's disorienting when it jumps back.
3. Keep the animation short. It's obnoxious if it drags on for too long.
4. No obnoxious bright flashes.
5. Keep it contained to one shot.
Follow these simple rules and you'll do fine.
Ironically my avatar is as simple as they come yet fully complies with your rules...

...which hardly stops me from disagreeing with you.

Daystar's avatar is quite acceptable as well.
