So I was challenged earlier today to make Top 10 list of my favorite and/or best anime characters. The only restriction is that the list had to be half male and half female, and to come up with an explanation as to why if I wanted. So I gave it some thought and turned my list in. I wound up not putting them in a particular order, but here is what I came up with, starting with the men.
Kamina - Gurren Lagenn
What can't be said about Kamina? He is badassery define, refined, enriched and fired at Mach 10. He awesome enough that he is able to inspiration the miserable little ball that is Simon to be something slightly less-than-miserable and have Yoko all over him too. Him dying was sad enough; replacing him with Simon was like replacing Ichigo with that whiny medic kid from Squad 4.
Gene Starwind - Outlaw Star

Gene is another from the badass line, but has the kink of being afraid of space travel........and then inherits the most technologically advanced ship in the galaxy. Aside from being a smooth operator (most of the time) watching him bounce back from any trouble and actually grow was fun to watch.
Keitaro Urashima - Love Hina
I love this guy just because...I dunno, I identify with him? Throw WAAAY out of his depth and all the abuse he goes through to finally sort things out is inspiring. Also, being the owner of a boarding house full of hot women is reason enough to be jealous of him.
Ichigo Kurosaki - Bleach
Ichigo is just one of those cool guys. Devoted to his family, dedicated to his friends and a hard-ass worker. Also being so incredibly stubborn and powerful he manages to get an ages old society full of people like him to make exceptions can't be ignored either.
Jiraya Arbertura - Naruto
Jiraya. Master Ninja. Master Teacher. Book-writer extraordinaire.
Master Peeper.
Best. Resume. EVER.
Konan - Naruto
Ok, admittingly, I wanted to put both Anko and Tsunade here, but something about Konan just makes me like. Even though she was technically one of the bad guys to start with, she was just too cool (and pretty) to not like. That, and giving Madara the ass-kicking of a lifetime helps too.
Tsukimi - Sekirei
Ok, one reason I picked her is because she's hot. But other than that, she is a ridiculously good fighter, and probably the only other non-airhead amongst Minato's little group. She also is the only Sekirei ever shown beating up her Ashikabi for being (incorrectly) perverted.
She also has probably some of the best brain-halter moments in the show, such as her harem discussion with Musubi in the bath.
Motoko Kusangi - Ghost in the Shell
Shes hot. Shes a cyborg. She is a member of Japan's elite CT unit. She can browse the internet with her brain. She believes wearing pants in public is optional.

Ryomou Shimei - Ikki Tousen
Ok this one is purely because I think she is hot. In a show so full of camp they let you pitch tents (all puns intended), all of her outfits are fetish fuel to boot. However, in a rare turnabout, she is one of the few females to have an actual physical deformity in anime, hidden under her eyepatch. However finding a good picture of this online is a *****, and I haven't been able to do it.
Soi Fong - Bleach
Soi Fong has always been personal favorite for me. She's strong and acts badass, but watching the episodes where she comes apart for you-know-who or anyone getting close to her is almost adorable, and seeing her Bankai finally was nice too. Though it kind of broke the theme......
So what do you think? *****, gripes, complaints? What would you have put instead?
