Recently it was the Melancholy of Haruhi Shizumia (Season 2 in the correct order). I don't know if the final episode was supposed to be a bonus, but it was just kind of like "see ya, that's it!" It really didn't feel conclusive to me.
Two more? You mean the ones where Shinji is all introspective and ends with this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma37MgOjhtI]? Yeah, I liked those. If you mean the movie, it was fine. Part of me thinks they made it intentionally depressing to get back at all the fans whining and sending them death threats, but I also appreciated it from a cinematic and metaphorical perspective. they clearly put effort into it (and money, lots of money).
Probably Ao No Exorcist, it started of great, they were following the Manga pretty well, then it all goes down hill.
Rin kills Amaimon then he returns as a green hamster, the coolest and most entertaining character in the show and the writters turn him into a green fucking hamster fuck that shit. Good thing he's still alive in the Manga though and not a fucking hamster! (It should be noted that I have nothing against hamsters, in fact I find them adorable, but still fucking green hamster.)
Then there is the ending, it gets the Gantz anime treatment, that's right the only thing worse then ending on a cliff hanger is.
Congratulations on not appreciating the merit of the original ending. I did a 20 page research paper on Eva, bro. The final two episodes weren't that bad. They just didn't give people what they wanted or resolve a lot of the important plot points. However, what they DID have to say was decent. However, if you think you can hand wave that with condescension, go right ahead and think what you want.
Desert Punk.
That ending was a 180 leap into the toilet.
In addition I'd put Chobits and My Bride Is A Mermaid but they had cheesy story-lines anyway so there really wasn't anything to be disappointed about.
Oh god, desert punk ending was such a turd. I mean they never display him as a good guy but to do what he did....kinda felt like a waste of the rest of the episodes.
You know, I kind of felt the ending was appropriate.
But, I never found the character at all likeable (or really any of the character's in the show) so the switch from protagonist to antagonist did not surprise me.
They ran out of material a few episodes short of a season, so did the best they could without forking the path. Personally, I understand where you're coming from, but I don't mind this approach. I guess they wanted to:
a) keep it open in case a second season got approved later
b) let viewers jump to the manga without any weird changes or
c) both
The George Dubya Bush rant was kinda odd though.
To put your mind at ease though:
It actually happens, and the influence of the Gantz extends well beyond Tokyo. The comic is in its last few weeks right now actually. Worth the read, but fair warning: it gets much more depraved as it progresses.
Basically, as all series are largely based on ongoing comics there are four ways these things go. There's no excuse for series with original storylines to have crappy endings.
1. Get the green light from the illustrator that the series will end soon or has ended and
2. Make subtle changes to inject a minor conculsion or single story arc conclusion in and round off the episodes and leave it open but faithful to the source material.
3. Ram in filler. Lots of filler.
4. Fork it.
The first is the ideal option but rarely works out that way. Many illustrators drag their series out beyond expectations anyway to avoid sending themselves back to Hello Work. Best options are 2 and 4. Forking the anime from the source material sometimes works and when it does, is ideal, but it often doesn't. Heck, sometimes it even pulls a Rule #34 like FMA. I'd rather a non-ending than a poorly thought out forked ending because at least then there are options to continue the storyline and see what the author had in mind.

Worst for me would be Evangelion, simply because I hate the idea that the artist couldn't seem to make their mind up on a single definitive ending.

I was actually fine with the role change, to be honest there really was no defined good or bad guys. Even though the supposed good guys had good said intentions I'm not sure they where actually good.
It was kinda the pointless murder of the family near the end that got me, it was kinda stupid and what i felt was unnecessary. It just maid us know hes is just evil now.
They show near the very end, Dallas and his buddies getting pulled out of the water and Eve's face lighting up as she she's her brother is still alive. Yeah it's not all tearful reunion but she still finds her brother which was her goal all along. Personally I was just more pissed that Baccano! had to end at all.
The last saga was full of plot holes and inconsistencies. There was plenty of spectacle, and I enjoyed watching it at the time, but compared to the previous sagas it felt like a really messy way to end the story. It wasn't exactly bad, it just felt like a let down to what was otherwise a really well paced series.
There is a reason for this. The final saga was supposed to be Chapter black. The best explanation was that Togashi was experiencing health problems and ended the series out of selfishness. The ending of the series would have taken place in December 1993 during the Sensui arc. It was during the height of the series popularity and they wanted a last arc for the series to publish in the weekly jump!.
It explains the rushed Three Kings arc and a not so great explanation on why
I recently just finished watching "fullmetal alchemist", and felt let down by the ending...
I know that not every story has a happy ending, or sad bitter sweet ending. But after watching all of the plot twists come to the conclusions that it did, and knowing it was over.... I felt disappointed...
I have felt this way about other Anime's but was wondering.
What Anime's have you ever felt let down by, or saddened at the ending?
Yeah, that entire first series basically built up to a woman dancing, a few alchemy performances and then pretty much all the characters being worse for it. I then watched the movie in hopes it could maybe make things a bit better? Oh man, I felt even worse after that... Thank god for Brotherhood!
Exactly my feelings on it. The hopes I had on that movie... -__-
The only kind of sadness I get from Brotherhood is the sadness you get when something you really enjoyed ended and you know you won't see anymore of it.
First, you might want to give "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" a try. The ending ties up all loose ends, the plot it good for the ride, and not so bittersweet.
Second, Requiem for a Phantom. The ending fit with the theme of the entire show (which is sad), but damn it, that ending was a heart-breaker (Damn Mongolian Farmers!!)
