Higurashi definitely. Grey's facination with it made me pick it up and... *shudder*

Also, look up Welcome to the NHK. It is rather brilliant. Also, Angel Beats and (maybe) Fate/Stay Night.

Would you mind putting what you say in spoilers?
Just so, you know, those people who are interested in watching it don't get it spoiled for them.
sorry, I haven't learned how to do that yet. would you mind telling me?

Angel Beats!, couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Fullmetal Alchemist, one of my favourites
Azumanga Daioh, a really light-hearted and fun anime.
Highschool of the Dead, if you like zombies and hot anime chicks, it's for you.

[ spoiler ] [/ spoiler ] without the spaces, can also use instead of [ ].
There is a thread with a list of all the stuff you can use, somewhere in Off-Topic.

Also surprised no one's mentioned Trigun yet. And I'd add my recommendation for Utawarerumono.

The first season of Spice and Wolf was pretty great, too (I can't speak on the second season, though, never watched it).

Holy crap, you liked The Big O? I loved that anime. No one I ever talk to even know what it is. I think I love you.

Blue submarine no.6 is another one like that, little unappreciated gem.

Metropolis is like my favorite movie ever, oh my god. :D
Hehehe, glad you enjoyed it too! Tenchi Muyo and The Big O would be my top 2 anime series, even if it's simply due to nostalgic reasons. Big O was the first and only mecha anime I've ever liked :3
Highly underappreciated, unfortunately :/

And wow. You liked Metropolis and Blue Sub No 6 too? :D

Very true, but that's if you either have yet to watch those type of anime or watched them when they first aired.
Watching them now after all the cliched crap there is out there now would probably have a different affect.

Tenchi Muyo however, is my all time favourite anime so I can't help but recommend it wherever I go, but by today's standards, I can only imagine it would seem quite an overdone plot at this point.
I have the same thing with Evangelion. I saw it when it first aired on Toonami and Adult Swim back in the early 2000s. It makes me feel old when I hear people are just now starting to watch it and they say it is cliche. It's offensive, really, how people are not understanding the contributions it made. Do you have the same problem with Tenchi Muyo? That was a little gem from my youth, too.

I actually have yet to sit and watch Evangelion for several reasons. One being that everyone keeps telling me I have to watch it. The more they tell me, the more I put it off. Same with Cowboy Bebop. Havent' seen that either >>
And it's also because I accidentally came across an NGE hentai and that sorta put me off to the series itself. Damn fanfics...
But yeah, I know what you mean. Sucks when that happens, but you can't really blame them to be honest. It's just what you happened to see first. Sure, Tenchi and Evangelion may have done all that first, but when someone else comes back to it saying it feels cliche to them, that's just their perception of it.
However, if they're too goddamn ignorant to understand that things exist outside of what they chose to view, then yeah, fuck them.

And no, not really. I never really hear people talk about Tenchi Muyo ever so I can't really say either way. I only ever hear praise for it, to be honest, which makes me happy ^_^

To end the spoiler, you need the / in the end brackets, just like with [/quote], or any of the other little things.
We somewhat derailing the thread now, so... >.>
We should stop <.<
I can edit the spoilers into your posts, if you don't know how to do it. I'll check in a few minutes.
Should be plenty of time >.>

And yes, that's the one I'm referring to ^_^
Personal favourite anime film for me.
Such a beautiful story with such gorgeous animation <3

You're lucky, it seems that everyone these days hates Evangelion. I agree with your "yeah, fuck them" notion, but that is my childhood, man. Saying my favourite television series is terrible is just... appalling.

I cried at the end of that movie. I still do, every single time.

Really? I mean, everyone I talk to loves it.
I've only ever heard of one person who didn't like it because of "No character depth" and "the fans are pretentious cunts"

Paraphrasing that last part, but that's essentially what they said >.<

So sad, but I can't help but watch it over and over.
Still one of the best films I've ever seen and I've yet to view any anime that surpasses it, at least in my opinion.

I know. A trip to Seinfeld's page taught me that.

Make a "least favourite anime" thread here. You'll see.

I haven't watched any good anime lately. What are you into at the moment?
