I recently taken an interest in anime, and was looking for suggestions. I know this thread has been done a million times already. I am looking for Comedy and/or action anime, with minimal Romantic sideplot.

What are your suggestions?
If you want something that's all action, try Black Lagoon. It's essentially Shoot 'em Up as directed by John Woo, all action all the time.

Here's a little taste

Watch it, know it, love it.

RahXephon is one of the best animes I've ever seen, as well, but it has a lot of drama and romance subplots in between the action and comedy, so you might not enjoy it.

D.N Angel has a similar problem, as does Full Metal Panic, and Martian Successor Nadesico, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Wow, I watch a lot of Romance anime... Damn.

I don't have much in terms of comedy... Aside from the generic amount almost every anime has.

Most things I watch are action/somewhat deep or faking it.

Ghost in the Shell, hack/sign, Fullmetal Alchemist (both series) and so on.

For comedy with minimal romance, try
Gokusen
Chromarti High School
Dragon Half

I do have to warn you, I haven't really seen much anime in the last 5 years, so I don't know about any of those newfangled shows, but I did find those 3 funny, and Dragon Half had slimes in it so yay :D

Ghost in the Shell - There is quite a bit of action and a very interesting plot so this would be a good one to watch.
Darker than Black - Plenty of action in this one...too bad they never made any more series
Black Lagoon - Lots of guns and explosions. Need I say more?
FMA - I would suggest watching the original before Brotherhood due to the slightly better pacing to start with. There is a fair amount of action and comedy so you probably won't be disappointed.

Funny as hell. Maybe a little bit sexist here and there, but I laughed my ass off.
Holy crap, I thought I was the only one that watched that anime. It's incredibly funny and I recommend you watch it some time. Thoough it's rather ahem. If you get my drift. Though really if you are just starting off, go with Trigun for comedy and awesome gunfights and good characters. Cowboy Bebop blows pretty much all newer anime out of the water. Oh and for a good series that's still going on today go for Hunter x Hunter. Now the fights in that are really really good, smart and outside the box.

I can't beleive that no one has suggested 'Excel Saga' yet.
Fits the bill perfectly. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it will blow minds.
This I wouldn't recommend unless you're familiar with anime already.

If you're looking for comedy, Excel Saga is all you need. But it gets about 10 times better when you've actually seen a bunch of famous anime and understand most of the jokes and parodies.

Other than that, I'd recommend;

Hajime no Ippo (boxing, but not the way you'd expect it)
Last Exile (has a high rpg-esque feel to it)
Great Teacher Onizuka (mostly comedy, old, but real good)
Any Gundam series, The 08th MS team is a nice starter (mecha, war, mostly good writing too)
Full Metal Panic (mecha, drama, comedy, it pretty much has everything. Don't confuse it with Fullmetal alchemist, FMP is way better)

Also, just watch the movies Akira, Ghost in the Shell 1 + 2, Ninja Scroll, Patlabor II, Perfect Blue and Spirited Away. They'll give you a fairly varied peek into the vast world of anime.

Perfect Blue should be on your list either way, it'll change the way you look at animated film.
