Thanks for mentioning on of my faves, Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei.
Wish I could find more of the episodes but last time I hunted for them I gave my friends computer a virus. :/

this caste me in DESPAIR!!!!
I'm not entirely sure on the legality of such a site, but could you possibly mean this?

It's a personal favorite of mine, and no viruses.

I would say three of the most underrated anime are: Samurai Jack, which is just bloody awesome. If you haven't watched it yet, you have no idea what you're missing out on, Air, which is still the only medium of art, games, music, books, movies etc. that has made me cry, and finally Digimon tamers which I found to be a wonderful series.

That has hardly slipped under the radar. Everyone has heard of that one.

Everyone. Those are some of the most popular animes over the last few years. I'm suprised you didn't add Naruto and Haruhi as well.

It is hard to think of an obscure one that is also good. I don't know really. Has anyone ever tried "Bartender"?

Other thank the Chaos one, those are kinda the most watched anime around.

For me, I've never heard anyone mention RahXephon. It's a great show, often compared to Neon Genesis Evangelion. I personally, liked it a bit more than NGE though.

I've heard of almost all of these, and I've seen nearly as many. :/

My picks:
Muteki Kanban Musume (aka Ramen Fighter Miki) - Hilarious
Kino no Tabi (aka Kino's Journey) - Bunny murder FTW
Natsume Yuujinchou
Skip Beat!
Zombie Loan

These aren't obscure enough to satisfy even the most casual hipster, but I feel like Welcome to the NHK, El Hazard (the OVA series, not the godawful TV series) and GTO could definitely use a little more love for their sheer awesomeness.

Seriously, El Hazard has an alcoholic teacher side-character who gets super strength the longer he goes without drinking. It's hilarious, and on top of that, the English dub is legitimately side-splitting.

While hardly under the radar, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni could always do with some more love. As could Spice & Wolf, its calm pace makes it somewhat of a limited appeal series, but the quality of it is sky high.

I'll agree with Gankutsuou (it's actually on my top 10, though I don't know whether it's all that unknown) as well, it's a remarkably faithful adaptation of the book which use its new setting and unique visuals well.

Just started on the visual novel which that Anime is based on.

Renkin 3-kyu Magical? Pokan, Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, and Golden Boy would have to be my votes. I find them all amusing.

I'm actually downloading that right now, and I agree it's extremely unknown. Nonetheless it's one of my favourites next to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Fairy Tail. And I've only watched a few episodes. :3

There's so many, it's pretty impossible to list them all. Here's a few off the top of my head.

Gintama

I'm too tired to bother explaining these choices, but I greatly enjoyed each of them for different reasons.
Gintama has actually enjoyed some great success and has actually been cited as one of the more successful manga series outside of Japan. The Anime is very popular as well, though it does seem like very few people talk about it.

Love Gintama.

For my two cents

SPICE and WOLF.

I have seen many really good anime that never show up on T.V (Slayers, Negima, Chobits) but Spice and Wolf takes the grand prize for the most unexpected gem ever.

Right, you ever seen those stock market things or people talking about trading in businesses (boring right?). Well Spice and Wolf is about a merchant trading goods and guess what, it is one of the most exciting anime I have ever watched. Seriously people, stop reading and start seeing how well they pulled this thing off.
Only complaint; They only have 1 proper season available at the moment. I wanted more.

Saikano: The Last Love Song on This Little Planet

I watched it a long time ago and remember enjoying it at the time, but I have not ever heard it mentioned anywhere else.

It was rather depressing though, as I remember...

Bokurano is a very under the radar anime that is absolutely amazing, especially for giant robot fans.

And while it's not that under the radar, Clannad should definitely be seen by more people.
