So most of the anime mentioned but adding another

GTO- AKA Great Teacher Onizuka: Because as far as slice of life goes, Onizuka has more heart than nigh on any other teacher ever shown in an anime. While I haven't seen the end of the anime, in the manga the plot usually devolves into a standard mesh of things (new troubled kid -> Onizuke teaches them a life lesson hilariously and often in ways that mean he comes close to losing his job -> he nearly loses his job -> He sustains grievous injuries comically-> right at the end those injuries stop being funny) every single storyline added something new and awesome.

Also revolves around his efforts to lose his virginity at 22, something which in the way more standard shounen Junai Shonan Gumi he completely failed at while his best friends manage it with alarming skill. Hard to pinpoint best moments but Suplexing a Head-teacher at a job interview because he called some students scum, challenging a gang of disgraced expelled students threatening teachers in stocks to arm-wrestle for his freedom and insane shit like driving his bike off a bridge and nearly killing himself (and the schoolgirl on the back) to teach her a lesson in not being defined by her mortality.

That and it's just goddamn cool how this guy who's such a loser and kind of a sleaze also has so much goddamn self restraint that when a hot school-girl finally starts trying to seduce him for real he bashes his head against a wall until he knocks himself out to stop himself doing something he'd regret.

/rant <- see, I can manage a paragraph to describe a show I like, let's see more of this

Angel Beats!(This is my #1 favorite show of all time it is only 13 episodes and is on Netflix go watch it now!)

My favorite character of all time...

Clannad/Afterstory (This show turns boys into men.)
I second Angel Beats! It had action, comedy, drama and awesome music. Its one of the only things I've watched that caused me to think about my life and how I could change and be a better person. It also made me cry a number of times with some really touching scenes, especially the final episode. Nothing has affected me more deeply than Angel Beats! managed to do with only 13 episodes.

I also agree TK was awesome, but my main problem I have is that he is pretty much unnecessary to the plot.

Finally, my view on Clannad. I mentioned above the Angel Beats! touched me deeply, and so I was eager to watch Clannad after hearing people mention how much better it is than Angel Beats!. And after getting to around episode 18 I decided that I didn't agree. In those first episodes I didn't get nearly the same emotional ride as I did with Angel Beats!. Clannad just felt like a slog, especially since its obvious who the MC will end up with making all the story arcs with the other girls lose all relevance and meaning.

I'm not a massive fan of anime, so I like those that tend to be a bit different or strong stories in their own right: As such, my favourites are...

Death Note,
Blood+
Lovely Complex,
3x3 Eyes.

Contrary to the above, I also enjoyed Bamboo Blade, Prince of Tennis, History's strongest Disciple: Kenichi(?), and this weird one that I can't remember the name of, but it involved people fighting to the death over Bento boxes in the reduced aisle... genius idea.

Don't let the fact that it's a magical girl anime fool you. Watch it. Now.
Oh yeah, that's a good one. You are not prepared for what is has in store for you, people. No really, you are not. And don't you dare look at spoilers before you watch it, either!

Well, then, also, Mai-HiME (you'll giggle when you learn what HiME stands for), even if the ending is a little "Oh goddamn I just knew they were gonna do that. Curse them and their sudden yet inevitable fuckup". But let's just say I'm not too fond of yandere types, but for this one, I made an exception. Shizuru's awesome. Is in the Mai-Otome series too.

Azumanga Daioh? Heh that one is just...for the times you need something light and wacky, and it does its job well.

One of my favorites is Scrapped Princess, too. It does start a little slow, but gains momentum towards the end.

Crest/Banner of the Stars
Also, this one. I personally prefer Crest, if only because of episode 5. That was...well, one of the best anime episodes ever in my book.

Cardcaptors
Sailor Moon
Digimon
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Were my favourites as a child

These days my favourites list would be, in no particular order;
Soul Eater
Death Note
Inukami
Witch Hunter Robin
Hellsing (the original for the intro, Ultimate for the art and continued plot)
Black Butler
Angel Beats!
Naruto Shippuuden
Durarara!!
Black Lagoon
Tower of Druaga's first episode (the rest was a bit meh)

My favourite mangas are Fruits Basket, Bizenghast and Alice in the Country of Hearts.

But the thing that I'd really like to share with everyone is the visual novel Ever17, it's 'cure' (true) ending is so fantastic;

I can also vouch for Remember11 and Chaos;Head being fantastic, and safe for work!

Mine's gotta be FLCL. Blew me away when I first saw it. Can't believe that people would put down Evangelion on their favourites list. I thought it was a pile of poop.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
Claymore
Mirai Nikki

I have a big hardon for mindf**k, mysteries, and horror. Though I also like certain Shounen such as Fairy Tail and One Piece.

Aside from stuff already mentioned, my two favorites are:

Excel Saga

A truly outrageous parody comedy, Excel Saga just never has a consistent theme... and that's part of it's charm. Every episode, it changes from a high school drama, to a sci-fi, to a musical, to basically whatever they feel like at the moment. Plus, it has Nabeshin. You cannot beat Nabeshin.

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt

As I've mentioned before, I relish any opportunity to post a certain scene from this anime, and I think I'll do that instead of posting a paragraph about this particular anime:

-Yu Yu Hakusho for being straight up badass, but also sad and thought provoking at times
-Full Metal Alchemist is just generally great
-I remember when I was young I watched Rurouni Kenshin, and I know I liked it, but I can't remember anything about it, I wonder if it still holds up

D. Gray Man
Death Note

Clannad itself isn't very deep. In fact, that only real reason you should watch it is to make sure you know how Nagisa and Tomoya got together. Watch Clannad After Story. It will make you cry like a baby. I went into it headstrong and certain that it wouldn't make me cry, I thought it was just other people who were too emotional.

Ignore the order, I don't do rankings.

1. Bakemonogatari
2. Puella Magi Madoka Magika
3. Kure-nai
4. Shiki
5. Tatami Galaxy
6. Ef ~a tale of memories~
7. Berserk
8. Steins;Gate

I've actually just got the blueray collection of Berserk.

I can't believe I've never watched it before. It's fantastic, I'd written it off as another boring fantasy anime, but it goes places you don't expect and the series tone does a serious 180 somewhere in the middle and keeps getting more twisted right up until that finale which was frankly, dark. The only problem is that they only made one series and now I seriously need to know how the story progresses.

But I don't fancy laying down £300+ on all 35 managa volumes. And I don't think it's even finished yet.
Berserk is a real masterpiece, both the anime and the manga. I've been reading manga for about seven years and Berserk is probably the best I've read.

Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi is my favorite because it's just a bunch of hot dudes making out with other hot dudes. Pretty self-explanatory. Then there's Paranoia Agent, the dark, intelligent mind-bender. And, of course, No. 6, which combines the appeal of Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi with Brave New World.
