I haven't been watching much of the new anime this year, i've got a backlog to clear. Hey I've nearly finished watching Toradora at long last so I have that going for me. Dunno how i've let that sit on the backburner for so long, the main girl is the most next level tsundere I have ever seen. Watch and learn, Michiru-sama...
Oh hey. I just started watching Toradora. I like how it took what I expected the whole show to be leading up to and did it at the end of episode 2. Can't wait to see where it goes next.

OT:My favourite anime of the year, for which I'm noticing a distinct lack of recognition on this page, is Arslan Senki.
Why is this not more popular? It's essentially the game of thrones of anime. It's about this prince who goes on the run after his kingdom is taken over by a neighbouring state and he picks up this group of allies who all have their own reasons for following him and help him to become a good ruler. The cast is quite large and varied and everyone's well-written. There's no "bad guy" who's just evil for the sake of being evil. Everyone go watch it. (Of course, I didn't care much for one punch man so maybe I'm just weird.)

Other shows I liked:

Plastic memories is sort of a cross between chobits and blade runner. It has themes of romance, mortality and doing as much as you can with the time you have because life is fleeting.

Death parade involves people playing a game to determine the fate of their souls after their death. It's about the difference between who people are and who they pretend to be and what kind of circumstances can bring them to show their true colours.

Koufuku graffiti because it's nothing but moe girls eating different kinds of food and it's amazing.

And Hibike Euphonium because Kyoani.

I also watched Evangelion and serial experiments Lain for the first time this year and they're both now among my all time favourites.

Attack on Titan was innovative, though weird and made little sense and dragged in places.

Currently watching Space Dandy and Assassination School, which are also really werid.

I'm having a hard time recalling which anime I watched this year since I also re-watched my favourites (which I'm guessing wouldn't count here).

I guess it's between Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon? and Gurren Lagann.

Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?: Light-hearted and fun with nice action and beautiful animation to go with it. I was expecting it to be more fan-servicey than it was (and it thankfully wasn't), and there is room for more seasons which I'm very much hoping for. Great OST as well.

Gurren Lagann: I was hooked by episode 8 (with a... development I did not see coming). I blitzed through the rest of the series pretty quickly then, and loved the OST too, amazing characters, heart-stopping cliffhangers... this would've been number one this year, if not for another development that was thrown into the ending which left a very sour taste in my mouth. If not for that... thing they did, this show would've been in my top 10 anime ever but now I'm hesitant to put it there.

Nia's death was complete bullshit. There was no reason for her to die/fade/whatever-you-wanna-call-it, other than to make the ending bittersweet. I cannot imagine how anyone would've complained at her survival. The foreshadowing was so minimal; you could've missed it by blinking.

I'm pretty sure the only show I can recall watching this year is Himouto.

It was pretty alright. Would definitely watch a second season, and I'm pretty sure there's an OVA coming as well.

Need to scratch my more action-y itch and start watching One-Punch Man already. Or maybe just more shows in general.

Gakkou Gurashi. First time since Madoka Magica that I've watched a new show while it was airing. I can't say too much without dropping major spoilers, but hoo-eee was this show a feels trip.

Also really enjoyed the second season of Durarara, though I felt the first one was a bit better.

OT: Well .. uh .. I won't lie, mines quite lewd. As in, NSFW material but no worries I won't post anything lewd on here.
I'll just talk about it instead in graphic detail without cutting corners lol. But anyways, here's mine:

1) Monster Musume: Everyday Life With Monster Girls [http://dailylifewithamonstergirl.wikia.com/wiki/Daily_Monster_Girls_Wiki]
I watched the first episode or three of this and really liked it...same with Food Wars: watched 2 episodes and really liked it but just...stopped. It's a bad habit and I'm not sure where I picked it up. Oh well...there's only really two anime series that I've been following and here they are:

At time of writing, Japan has aired the first 19 episodes. Each Sunday a new one airs and if you've watched Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F than you already know what happens in the first two arcs. Funny enough, episode 19 ends with the Resurrection of F! Anyway I've seen Battle of the Gods but not Resurrection F so things are getting new and interesting for me. That being said though, there are enough variations between the anime and the film to make things slightly more interesting. Bulma's party is on a boat in the anime...and Videl's reveal come right the fuck out of nowhere in the anime whereas in the movie it was at least hinted at kinda, maybe before the ass-pull.

Dragon Ball Super is definitely a more light-hearted Dragon Ball though! Now that F is back it may get more serious but so far it seems like we're back at Dragon Ball levels of goofiness. One episode in particular sticks out as being weird: Beerus chooses to decide the fate of the Earth by a game of Janken (rock-paper-scissors) and he specifically chooses Oolong as his opponent. Oolong literally hasn't been THAT important since he wished for a pair of panties that one time. When there is action though, it's pretty solid.

Most people would probably consider this to be a guilty pleasure but I'm really enjoying Dragon Ball's latest series. I can't wait for each week's new episode and really, I kinda feel like I'm back in Middle School.

As for the other anime I've been watching...

Yes it's on Disney XD...Yes Japan has had it for about 2 or 3 years...but it's new to me and it's new to the US and you know what? If this was 2005 this anime would not exist. Go ahead and check out an episode and just make a checklist of everything 4Kids would have taken out, censored or, neutered. Yokai Watch the anime is different from the game in that it's more focused on friendship than actually having Yokai battle it out like Pokemon. Each Yokai is shown effecting people in different and funny ways with some recurring characters down-right stealing the show (like Manjimutt who is constantly being arrested). Let me summarize a couple of episodes without context:

- A Yokai is making it so that Nate and his friends can't watch an adult channel.
- A Yokai is making everybody in the school need to piss, really-really bad.
- A cat Yokai is repeatedly hit by trucks as he trains to defeat one, thus redeeming himself in the eyes of his former owner.
- A Yokai embarrasses Nate making his classmate tell everyone else in class that he had a smelly shit in the school bathroom.

It's a really endearing anime but between the humor (which isn't aimed at a very young audience) and the fact that everything about Yokai Watch beats viewers and players over the head with Japanese culture, I'm positive that it would not have been allowed to exist in the US 10 years ago. It's on Disney XD so definitely check it out between Gravity Falls and Star vs the Forces of Evil.

So can I assume this was a shit year for anime?
Most of the list you guys posted didn't seem interesting at all.

The only ones I've seen and enjoyed this year was Durarara 2 and One Punch Man.

      Young Black Jack [http://anilist.co/anime/21187/YoungBlackJack]

Out of the currently airing I haven't watched the continuation of the Owari no Serpah, Monogatari and K so I can't comment on those but they wouldn't take the place of the best this reason that I can say for sure. Also I'd say OPM is the best of the year.

EDIT: Forgot to add why. I'll only mention why for the shows I think were the best of their season and I won't talk about a synopsis as I've linked that on Anichart. I probably won't give the best explanations but here we go. No spoilers are in these I just spoilered them to make my post smaller

[HEADING=2]Winter: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders[/HEADING]
Well for winter I didn't really feel there was a lot of competition or many anime that really got my attention but I've always loved the Jojo series. This continues in the same style as other Jojos with the over top dialogue and poses along with good action. I'd recommend Jojos to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Stardust Crusaders I think really captures the time and setting of it quite well with how they present the world and characters. Despite the goofyness I became quite attached to the characters and sometimes worried for their safety if they were in peril.

[HEADING=2]Spring: Shokugeki no Souma[/HEADING]
This is another show that is quite over the top any time the characters have their little foodgasms. They generally end up being quite ecchi as well. I really liked the detail they put into making the food and talking about the ingredients and cooking styles as well as putting recipes in for them in the manga. I actually tried making a few of them like the karaage chicken and it was very nice but I messed up the wraps a bit.

The character interactions I really enjoyed in this show as they play off of each other very well while being somewhat parodies of shounen style relationships. This allows the show to get very tense in certain parts and got me invested in the outcome.

[HEADING=2]Summer: Ushio to Tora[/HEADING]
There were many shows that I enjoyed when the summer season came out but the best in my opinion is Ushio to Tora but other such as Overlord, Monster Musume, Gate, Prison School and Rokka no Yuusha are all worthy mentions here. The others were good but fell a bit short of best of the season.

I picked Ushio to Tora over the other shows because I love the older feel to the anime. As even though this iteration of the series was animated in 2015 it looks and feels like something animated from the 90s like the old ova. It keeps the spirit of that generation and while a lot of the general events and ideas in the show are old hat they feel very well done.

So maybe it is a bit nostalgia driven for simpler times but despite being some what simple Ushio to Tora is a very enjoyable show and the whole shows gels together quite well with all the older styles.

[HEADING=2]Autumn: One Punch Man[/HEADING]
I'd rather wait until the season is over before stating this but I don't think my view will change over the next few weeks. As well as that I don't want to hype things up too much. That said for me One Punch Man is the anime of the season for Autumn and for me it is definitely the anime of the year.

I really do love One Punch Man out of all the anime out this year. I had read the manga beforehand and I'm very pleased with how Madhouse and Shingo Natsume the director have handled the show. While there has been outsourcing it has been to high quality people and it gives nearly every key fight in the episodes their own unique feel that works for that fight. They all feel unique and different in a very fitting way.

I also love the ridiculousness of the world and the setting of a Super Hero so powerful he has almost become bored with it. I would highly recommend people give it a go but try to go into it with no expectations and leave the hype at the door as people have been hyping up this anime a lot(myself included) but it may give you unrealistic expectations.

1: I'm putting several anime as 'one', because they basically work on the exact same concepts, just with different settings. The 'game mechanics in a (real) world' anime. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, Overlord, and...one other I forgot the name of I believe.

What can I say, I love me some fantasy anime, especially with game mechanics. They're both very 'by the books' standard fantasy anime, wanting to cash in on the SAO/Log Horizon hype. But I still find them highly entertaining. (I really hope there will be more seasons of those two anime...)

2: Onepunch man.

Yea, I guess there are a lot of people with this one on their list. I was already following the manga for a while and when I saw the trailer for this I already immediately knew that it was going to be awesomely ridiculous and ridiculously awesome with high quality animation. Nothing more to want out of an action hero satire, for me.

3: Shokugeki no Souma.

Once again I was already following the manga for a while. Can't say I was as hyped for this anime as the others, but it was still interesting to see the manga being animated. I do think the story and visuals work better as a manga though.

4: Gate.

I found it to have a very nice mix of politics and action. Plus it explores the implications of a technologically advanced civilization meeting a medieval low fantasy civilization pretty well.

Some honourable mentions: God eater, Rokka no Yuusha, Akatsuki no Yona, World Trigger and Nanatsu no Tazai.
