Everytime I got into my local GAME there are 3 employees just standing around doing fuck all, i'll be scanning the PS3 games just looking for something that maybe take my fancy and i'll forever be asked, "Do you need any help?". That gets on my nerves.
And they refuse to hire women in that store, I think they can't cope with girls playing games. I went to buy a PS3 game once, and I was asked "You do HAVE a Playstation 3 right?". I answered "No- I just think the box looks pretty."
I have a suspicion you think your asked if your okay purely because your female, this isn't the case they do it to every one. It is without doubt the hardest call to make from a retail point of view. Do you a) not approach the customer and have them leave in disgust because not one person respects them or b) ask them if they are okay and get told to leave them the F%%k alone!

But anyway I have tended to have only good experiences in game stores the only issue I have is the blatantly horrifically low level pricing of trade ins!

I actually get annoyed at it due to the amount that I am asked. I spent 15 minued once just browsing to make sure I wanted to get a particular game, and I was asked 3 times, by the same guy! Now once I understand and I'm quite happy to say 'oh no thanks, i'm alright'. But 3 times was just a little bit too much.
I remember trying to buy Rock Band- the full kit and game and they almost didn't sell it to me because it was 'too heavy'. Sometimes I wish I was a large brutish looking girl. lol.

I too, hate the fact that GAME employees always, aaallllwwaayyysss ask you if you need any help. Even if you've been in there countless times before, racked up over 2000 card points (AT THAT STORE><) and look exactly like you might murder the next idiot who asks you "if you need any help"

Upon the release of Wrath of the Lich King, me an my friend went to a Game shop and got told by the manager that this was the only shop in the city that had any copies left and we would have to buy the £20 guide with it. We went across the street to Virgin media and bought the game for £5 cheaper.

I've been asked the same question. It's just the way they put it across. "PS3 OK?"
Simple.
Them saying: " You do realise this is for the PS3?" just comes across as patronizing.
I could go into vocal inflections and tone of voice and if they actually seem interested / you're a regular. But you get the idea.

More than once I have seen the people at Gamestop get yelled at because a Playstation 3 game wouldn't work on somebody's Playstation 2. They were probably seeking to avoid this.
That sounds more like the customers ignorance, to be honest. "Playstation is Playstation, innit!"

I hate how they are forced to not sell M games to minors. I mean I know it's there job but when I'm standing there with a parent they feel inclined to explain every detail of the game. It sort of feels like they are trying to get my parent to not let me get it. It just seems like alot of work and I hate how you have to be 18 (in America) to play a M rated game but I think in england or australia you only have to be 15 right. It just feels wrong that a 16-17 year old kid who can drive alone by themself to a game store are suddenly not responsible enough to handle a game 10 year olds are infamous for playing online

My boyfriend used to work at a game store. He got people asking for dice. People who could not understand the promotional posters (one poster had the white psp and the black psp, a plus sign and 5 psp games and it was written below all this "PSP + GAME: 200?!". A lady thought she could buy two psp's and 5 games for 200?). And Christmas time... Brr. He kind of lost faith in humanity and decided to just be quiet behind the counter, being friendly only to those he already knew, and "testing" games all day long :p

I just posted about my boyfriend working at a game store; actually before he went to work there they asked me to take the job since they thought it would be appealing for male and female gamers to have a girl working there :)

I hate pretty much all game stores because the types that work there are the types who usually have no friends cuz they play too many video games.

I recall buying a used game for ye old xbox taking it home and having it not work. Coming back. Getting another copy haaving it also faiol miserbly. Than I decided that I do not want to spend my money at this place. They said 'we can't do that store credit only' This was the same employee I talked to the first two times. Now, I know policy is policy. So I didn't get to mean to the employee. And was ready to buy a NEW game instead. Then out of the back comes 'the manager' with 'the DM'. Which much to my chagrin does not mean 'dungeon master' I layed into the DM saying his policy is bullshit and the games shouold be checked and don't try blaming the workers cuz I don't even see any system for them to check games on. I didn't get my money back but I got a 'go away' gift card. So I still had to spend money at the store.

I only go to the mom and pop game shops we have here now.

Haha- nice! I think it's just my particular ones that have the anti-female feeling. It's gutting, I'd love to work there.

When my friend who is 14 was trying to get his mum to buy GTA 4 and the gamestop employee stated all the things about sex, my friend can play violent games but nothing with sex.

Also, The ones who try to explain everything to parents, like, oh if you get the red ring of death blah blah blah and the parents frankly dont give a hoot

M rating is only 17+
And you can play an M rated game at any age, you just can't buy one in a retail store.
