Okay, I've had this issue for a while now, and its been bugging me to know if it happens to anyone else here.
I seem to have a problem with the particularly nasty/gross images that appear here on the Escapist from time to time (and don't seem to appear anywhere else). Its not necessarily an Escapist issue, but still started here. The issue is that once I've seen the image; I cannot get it out of mind by any measure. It might recede or fade for a while but it will come back without a doubt. They just pop-up wherever whenever, straight into my head to bother me. The slightest association with anything and my brain is all like "Hey! Here is this really disgusting thing you saw while reading/looking at something related to this!" The most recent culprit -which some of you may- have seen is an ad image if a disgusting fat guy with an ad about cutting out some stupid food to lose weight. Yeah, that guy popping into my head is real nice.
I think the worst one, that still plagues me to this day even though I saw it over a month ago, was a random picture that was next to the one I was looking for to post in a funny thread. It was a women with a hideously, hideously ugly face smoking a disgustingly large blunt. Now whenever I think of the game I was posting about or just women in general its like a curse that I'm going to remember that picture and have whatever I was thinking about ruined.
I don't know how to stop it either. Focusing on other things doesn't help - they just intrude harder. They might subside for a while.....but they came back days (or in the one's case, weeks) later for no apparent reason. Nothing I know of/learned of explains of this especially since I didn't have this issue before. Though I would really, really like it to go away.
Because having my brain go "Oh, a cute woman? Hey, lets remember that disgustingly ugly woman in that picture you saw more than a month ago! That'll be a great association, right?" is not fun in the slightest.
