Annoying Widows XP thing....

I recently cleared my desktop and put a nice hi-res image in while keeping all my icons in the quick launch in the toolbar. The only thing that would complete my desktop would be to get friggin Recycle Bin out of the way. if there is a sneaky hax way you can get it off the desktop my third-born child will go to you.

there is a way, i know you can hide the desktop icons, forget how tho

I use TuneUp Utilities 2008, great prog which allows that very thing.

Simple, right click, arrange desktop icons then uncheck show desktop icons to hide all the icons

It's really easy, and I did it.

All you have to do is create a Shortcut to the Recycle Bin, and put it in a folder of its own anywhere on your computer. I put mine in My Documents - I have a Toolbars folder, and inside that I made a Folder called "Trash" and stuck the shortcut in there.

After you do this, right click the taskbar, hover ove "Toolbars", and choose "New Toolbar..." Then just navigate to the folder with your shortcut in it and select it. You will now have a functioning Recycle Bin toolbar docked in your taskbar and you can put it wherever you want.

I put mine on the bottom toolbar, but you can put yours in the Taskbar if you want.

Also, another method is to put a Shortcut to the Recycle Bin in your Quick Launch with your other icons.

If you want to hide the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop so it is completely clean, right click the Desktop, hover over "View" and uncheck "Show Desktop Icons".

Voila!

Edit: It might be slightly different on XP to hide the icons, it might be under "Arrange Icons By..." or something like that.

It would be a reference to the mis-spelt title of the thread... It suggests that you gain experience points for becoming a widow. The Praying Mantis actually eats the head of her mate after mating, hence making her an instant widow.

For a lot of people, the desktop serves as a backdrop for applications such as Photoshop (anything with multiple windows). When I do graphic design work, I like to have a blank desktop behind me without icons and text cluttering up my viewing space.
