I did a quick search and didn't see anything so sorry if its been posted already.

Yeah so what do you guys think about this? Do you think the thing has a chance of actually passing president? Anon really doesn't like it thats for damn sure.

*EDIT*
How many people here would not have heard about this or not have looked into it if Anon had not posted a video about it or that I had not posted said video here? In one sense Anon has done their job because they are informing people about something very very wrong with what is going on right now. However I know its fear mongering but still if you do research into it yourself and don't take it at face value you will know that this is a VERY VERY bad thing and that a lot of people need to know about it.

Huh. I didn't even know that they had passed that bill. Didn't the president say that he would veto it?

I wondered when Anonymous would get involved in all this. I'm surprised they didn't get involved sooner with the SOPA thing. I'm sort of glad to see this really, I really resented them after the LulzSec thing and pretty much lost all faith in seeing them do something worthwhile again.

The president said he will veto this, but I think it does say a lot since the congress and senate passed it. There are no tinfoil hats or speculation there--it actually happened.

Also, typo spotted at 3:17.

I'm pretty sure the original Patriot Act that got passed in late 2001 / early 2002, did the same exact thing. (I did a research paper on it)
It was later amended and its most questionable articles repealed.

So pardon me for not panicking like the ignorant sheep Anonymous assumes I am.

Nasty bills like this get proposed and moved more often than we think. In the last year alone, consider how many bills like SOPA have been brought to Congress, and stamped out.

I hate to be "that person," but I'm pretty sure there is a world of difference between a law that allows the government to listen in on conversations without a warrant and a law which allows the government to detain foreigners without Miranda rights for unstated reasons and an indefinite period of time without the option of a lawyer, and could leave the possibility of it to be used on citizens.

erm... source?
I looked all over the websites dedicated to stopping SOPA that update hour to hour, as well as the House's website it's self, all of them seem to say that both SOPA and PROTECT IP haven't been voted on yet in the House and Senate respectively.

I'm finding no evidence that either of them have gotten passed.

They are completely right.

Wake up and stay alert.

If you just sit back and say 'oh someone else will do something about it / oh it'll get vetoed/won't hold up.' then you are just allowing them to carry on destroying your country and it is your complacency that they are counting on.

I'm finding no evidence that either of them have gotten passed.
No, you found evidence the big news sites are in their pockets and real news is being withheld.

I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding--I wasn't talking about SOPA when I said that, I was talking about this "traitorous bill" thing. SOPA has not been passed, according to Wikipedia it's going into the House committee for markups December 15th.

Apparently, there are a lot of allowances for more defense spending, which would make it harder for Obama to veto it. Also, due to how the government works, the Veto could be overridden.

Fuck, Anon takes a serious issue and turns it into a big joke.

You shouldn't need scary music and futurama pics to make this look bad.

...

And, they actually are going for Guy Fawkes being a great guy, not just basing themselves on V for Vendetta? Fuck.

From memory:

The original Patriot Act that got passed allowed for a lot more than telephone taps and detainment of foreigners. Due to implicit wording ("person", not being defined solely as "non-US-citizens/foreigners", in a few key statements), it also applied to US Citizens.

In practice, under the original Patriot Act, anyone on US Soil/Jurisdiction could have been carted off to God-knows-where, for any reason ("suspicion", which is ultimately arbitrary). The only limiting clause stated was that they had to notify your district judge that they were detaining you, and that was primarily just a bureaucratic/bookkeeping measure.

Meh. Another occurence that will fall on the deafest of ears. Another instance where people will see it and say "Yeah but that doesnt apply to me". Another problem that people will collectively choose to ignore because voluntary compliance comes easier than freedoms vigilance.

Freedom is being stolen and our sluggish and lethargic nature is both why it is being stolen and why we dont deserve it.

So what difference does it make? Until human nature is modified we can only look forward to the perpetual threat of slavery and unending attempts to make you accept it. Our resistance amounts to little more than demanding a slightly looser yoke. The fight is not that for our freedom. The fight is for how we can change human nature to the point where the desire for control and power are eliminated so that these biproduct attempts at oppression are obsolete and useless.

Fix the cause, Dont get distracted into focusing on the effects.

My response to Anon:

Oh, for fuck's sake. Guys, "V for Vendetta" is an awesome movie. Stop douching it up.

PS: If you want to be taken seriously, you have to bring more then a mask and a quote from a movie.

EDIT: Like, for example, if you sent a Guy Fawkes mask and cloak to every person in America, then I would be impressed. Preferably before Halloween. Get on it.

EDIT 2: Oh, and you guys are aware of the fact that, due to Anon's ridiculous structure (or lack thereof) this thread's title could have read "Random Dude with a Mask's Message to America" and it still would have been just as relevant, yes?

OK, just makin' sure.
