Anonymous is weak, taking down a website means nothing unless you can fundamentally change the website itself. Anyone can take down a website if they have the proper software and a few weeks of training but real hacking is actually changing the site.
explained futility here.

and it's even funnier that they will most likely fail miserably.
EDIT: Oh wait, they actually mean "destroy" as in erase from existence forever?
Bender can answer this for me.

Come on Anon! Use you're powers for good and take out ED or Topix!
ED doesn't exist anymore, the asshole who ran it turned it into a SFW website so he (or she?) could sell it off.
actually, ED is back. http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Main_Page

I support Anon, I see them as fair and just. Quite frankly I don't care what you say.

Yeah...about that.

My school closed down a year ago and the only way to keep up with my friends is through Facebook. You want to destroy that connection? Then BRING IT YOU OVER GROWN ASS HATS.

I don't like the potential attack for many reasons.

FAcebook serves a very important role in the way people interact today. Allowing tons and tons of people to collaborate and ordinate in ways previously impossible. IT enables new technologies to be tested out, I think its a genuinely good thing.

The idea that anonymous is doing this because "someday you'll thank us" is the worst of it. The advert made them sound as controlling as the thing they claim to be stopping.

Yes, let's take down what helped the democratic revolutions in the middle east because of internet anonymity. /first-world problem

Seriously, a bunch of you guys seem to suffer from a serious superiority complex ("we need to save the sheep from themselves because WE know what's really going on") delusion and slight paranoia.

I think this is the first time I've ever wanted Anonymous to succeed.
Not my first time and not the last. I don't care for Facebook at all.
Thats like saying because I don't like your house, I should be able to burn it down. Why do they get to fuck up everyone else's tree fort?
Cause it's the exact situation as a school yard bully. They're gona do whatever he/she wants until some bigger and stronger bully comes along. And the government is like the ineffective parent. Thats my view anyways.

Kind of interested as to what'll come of this.

I don't think it'll be permanent, and facebook will make sure to take precautions if they think it's a valid threat (I hope they will, anyway). I'm rooting for Facebook in this because I use it fairly often.

Taking down the master hacker Mark Zuckerberg himself? Good luck, this should be interesting to watch.

Eh, Im one of those guys who like Anonymous. If facebook goes down it isnt any skin off my back, even though I do have an account there.

Never understood the hate to be honest. They go after big fish assholes, near complete freedom of information should exist, and they hack for it. Go on being nerdier cyber Heshers' Anonymous.

You ask the question Why do they get to do it? Why do they get to fuck up everyone elses tree fort? Simple, because when left in the public's hand, the public did absolutely nothing to fix these problems to the point they were led blindly to believing there isn't even a problem.

Make no mistake, this is not some knee jerk reaction. There has been decades to fix these problems yet the herd refuses to act in its own best interest. The actions of Anon exist for absolutely no other reason that the publics complacency. If the public had fixed these things before they got this bad, Anon would not exist.

So as for your fire analogies, Its Sort of like a person paralyzed by fear inside a burning building. Sometimes they will even resist the firefighters trying to save their lives. Sometimes they will even force the fire fighter to leave them behind because they are too afraid to be saved.

Remember, remember the 5th of November. The gunpowder, treason, and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
