Our prime minister is a fucking RETARD.

Then again, the other option is that fatass Costello. Lesser of two evils... But seriously, if this passes the queen better kick the asshole out of office.

She has the power to do that.

Of course Anonymous would want to protest this, even if what that government spokesman said is true. Most of us know of a certain cesspool of the internet, that shall remain unnamed, which Anonymous uses as its unofficial base of operations; and we all know that it contains the aforementioned child pornography and bestiality.
Actually, the mods have cleaned up 4chan a lot. It's now a ban-able suspense to upload child porn and suspension worthy to mention it.
That's why all the lolitards moved to 7chan. -shivers-
I don't even want to imagine what goes on in there.
Neither do I. I tried going on 4chan a couple times but I don't like random porn interfering with a conversation I'm trying to have, even if it is ridden with "OVER 9000" and longcats.

Well, I certainly don't think the government is in the right.
Most search engines, such as Google, already do their best to filter out illegal material.

Instead of ruining the Internet for people, the Australian government should focus on taking down any Australia-based illegal websites.

Of course, that would constitute actually doing something... and as well all know, governments hate having to do stuff.

I love Anonymous. The collective conscious of the Internet always makes these mind-bogglingly rash decisions that always make for great entertainment. I say more power to anonymous. I hope that this attack makes Australia a slightly better place.

rofl, internet in china was fuck-loads faster than Australian internet ever is.

Typical computer-geek idiots; they actually think the AUS government wants to attack their rights - GUESS WHAT we're not living in 1984 u slimy bunch of dipshits
The governments own estimates actually place the internet at slowing down dramatically. Yes, their own estimates that they would have no reason to lie about that.

On top of that, of course the Chinese internet is faster, Australia already has perhaps the slowest internet speed of any developed country (and in fact, slower than many developing countries) throughout the whole world due to infrastructure issues.

On top of that, how is it not an attack on rights? While I'm not going to be out in the street with my 2+2=5 placard hurling molotovs at government buildings, its also pretty clear that having a secret list of blockable sites hidden from the public, and punishing anyone who publishes said list with $10,000 fines is an attack on individuals rights.

They should have hacked Kevin Rudd's Twitter account and Facebook page. Imagine, just imagine for one second the amount of irreversible damage that could be done if a fairly intelligent person who was against the government could put whatever they want on the PM's Twitter. Just imagine it I would think that they could hack his twitter page, actually.

I don't think attacking his website will do much. I highly doubt that this news reaches him and if it does he'd write it off as 'stupid kids mucking around' or something. It wouldn't be recognized a legitimate protest.

Thank you anon, I wasn't involved in this but if the filter goes through I will be.

Political protest by denial of service is legitimate.

I'm rooting for the hackers. The Australian Government likes to try and 'protect' it's citizens in ways that seem a bit extreme to me. I'm sure the gamers in Australia know about the government's censorship all too well.

Oh f*ck. I live in Australia. Anonymous are coming here? I went to a major protest against CleanFeed, but Anonymous are a different story altogether.
CleanFeed actually does nothing to stop kiddy porn, it only monitors the HTML layer of the internet. P2P and similar are apparently the biggest highways of awful stuff like that, and they are untouched. Meanwhile, everyone else is experiencing slower downloads, blocked innocent sites and other crap. The only reason that CF is not running today is that lots of ISPs refused to participate.

G'day mate, big scuffle with them prime minister and kangla-wabblies. AHEM *cough cough*, sorry was at a barbecue earlier.

I think the government deserved it, yet this doesn't really help our cause in any way. Of course the blacklist for all the sites have been leaked, and apparently people aren't responding too well considering it was only mean to block "child pron, bestiality and gay rights pages". So the wall may never happen, simply because no Australian ISP will support it, that and Stephen Conroy is busy sanding down the dick growing out of his head.

Either way, a government spokesman said the attack was misguided since the internet filtering plan only proposed to block content such as child porn and images depicting rape and bestiality.
Are they also going to censor stories about rape? How do you know if the images depicting rape is actually rape or just acting? Are they also going to ban rape hentai or just 'live action' pictures? After all, in hentai it's just...well, a piece of art. Fairly disturbing piece of art from where I'm sat but it's art nonetheless and should be treated as such. But then, for pictures of 'actual' rape how do you know that's not equally as falsified as the hentai is? I would guess that it's damn sure easier to film a porn of a girl acting like she's being raped than getting away with an actual sex crime.

I get that rape is bad. No argument. But once you start censoring pictures, then you have to move on to words and then...well, slippery slope goes here.

Gotta say I don't really have much sympathy for the Aussie government. Sorry, censorship=bad. I may not always agree with Anonymous' tactics but I can't really fault them here.
QFT

My stance is that internet videos and images should only be censored or be illegal if someone has been abused in the process of making it (i.e- child porn, or rape which is REAL rape, and not fake, acting rape, which is not necessarly good, but not bad either) In things such as hentai rape, or loli, no one has been abused in the process of making it- therefore it should be not illegal and censored.

I wish the Australian governement would be more specific with what exactly they are banning. You need a damn good reason to censor the internet.

Oooo, boy. See, Anonymous is formidable, but they're going up against the continent of Australia, which seems tailor-made by some sadistic bastard of a god to murder everyone and everything that sets foot in it. This should be a fun fight.

So Anonymous once again thinks it's online DDOS attacks will suddenly make some people go "Oh wow, you know these e-thugs have a great point!"

Silly anonymous.

And I'm against the censorship for the free-speech reason. Why don't they just spend this money stopping the cause rather than the product? (usual treatment versus cure debate)
