Damn, I was really hoping it would happen; I never liked Facebook that much.

So, is anonymous a group with central leadership, or just a mob of wannabe hacktavists?

Maybe I'm just an idiot and don't understand Anonymous, but I thought they don't have a leadership or membership program? You are part of Anonymous...well, when you say so. Who's to say that Anonymous member A is here saying it's fake while Anonymous member B is preparing an attack?

I had the feeling that if Facebook went down, there would be mass chaos.

Murder in the streets, friends becoming enemies, stuff like that.

Good to see Anon went on the good track in this race.

Extra Credits actually had an episode about this topic that was pretty interesting. You can watch it here if you want: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/anonymous

Also, anyone who was legitimately afraid/excited about the attack is stupid. Anon is not as powerful as they think they are. If they didn't say the attack was fake the story would be that the attack was a failure.

Well, there go my plans to kick back and watch the fireworks while Anon and Facebook duke it out tomorrow.
I really hope the fox news attack is real though. I WANT TO SEE FOX BURN!

So, you want me to lose contact with half my family, six friends who moved away, and ex-coworkers I liked because you "never liked" a service you don't even use "that much".

What the hell is wrong with the Escapist these days?

Neither. They're everyone that interacts on the internet (and elsewhere) without giving any key details.

Do you have access to Microsoft Sam and some basic editing skills? Congrats, you can make official announcements on behalf of Anonymous! Of course, that results in stories like this one.

An "operation" becomes "official" only when enough people get behind you on your cause, otherwise it sputters out and dies.

These days? There's always been people like that.

OT: I have no real feeling either way, though I hear Facebook isn't to be messed with (as in it fares pretty well) when it comes to proper attacks.

Haha, I didn't mean to directly offend you. I'm just annoyed because it's all the people at my school talk about. "Hey Fred, did you see that page on facebook, "The awkward moment when..........." yeah that was so funny!".

And hey, if Facebook is ever hacked into, there's always email!

Look a lot of people do not like Facebook but they still use it not often but just to show others that they are alive.

Actually, that whole "We are anonymous" thing is mostly a front; the real anonymous (by which I mean the few tens of people at most who actually know what the heck they're doing) kind of allow the channers and various other hangers on to believe they're really a part of it, when in truth, they're just a bunch of bodies hiding the people who actually have the ability to hack systems and wield the low orbit ion cannon, or whatever the heck it is they call their botnet. I've seen chatlogs of actual high level anonymous members talking; Topiary, of Lulzsec fame, was one of them. Incidentally, the chatlogs in question explained what the whole HB Gary thing was really about. It wasn't just that they worked for the government in a manner highly inconsistent with the anti-sec movement; one of their employees started trying to infiltrate anonymous, on his own time, but with the intention of selling his methods as a security tool. The attack was aimed at least as much at him as it was at the company.

OT: You guys didn't know this already? It's been common knowledge for months that the whole thing was caused by a bunch of (self censoring this) Summer-friends who didn't actually have the ability to carry out any of the threats. From what I've heard, it came about because originally the guys who were working on that Anonymous-run social network were planning a mass voluntary account deletion on Facebook for November the Fifth. They dropped the idea, but somebody who didn't know about the original plan found some references to something involving Facebook and November 5th, assumed that the plan was to DDOS the site, and ran with it. Anonymous never actually planned to attack Facebook.

I miss luzsec, they were like Anonymous before this silly sense of morality. I expect my internet hackers to be crazy and want to ruin everything, not pretend to have some kind of code when most of them don't even know how to hack 'cause all the good hackers stayed on /b/, and then they left to do god knows what.

At least luzsec was, well, luz worthy.
