Okay Anon...I actually agree with you on the part about the invasion of privacy. However Sony had every right to go after GeoHotz. He was giving away secrets to hack and pirate their system, which is illegal.

Also, I think anyone who protests while wearing a mask (unless needed say if tear gas is used) is a fucking pussy. If you have the balls to stand for something, at least have the balls to show who you are, thats biggest thing you can do to show your support for a cause is taking the punishment that comes with it. That makes you a hero or at least a folk hero in my books. Thats why I see Anon as nothing more than punks and pussys. Be men and take your punishment like men(or women etc.).

Sony shouldn't have been able to request the info and they shouldn't have been given permission to get it. So I hope they take their protest to the judge's house too, because he should have said "No Sony, you can't have that info, now GTFO of my courtroom."
As far as Paypal goes, Sony may eventually have been ordered by the judge to get those accounts, because as I have stated before, the fact that they donated to his legal fund, they were now a part of the case. You don't get to support someone's defense and not be a part of the issue. And if the majority of the donations were from California had then it would prove that his support is coming from California, thus he would be tried in a California state court house.
Sony's intentions weren't the best as far as that went, but legally it was necessary as anyone who gave him money was now part of his defense.

As far as youtube and his web site: Once again, that information is not private. You gave Google plenty of info, and if Sony requests it, it's up to Google what happens. It's legal, and if Google hands info you gave them over to Sony, you can only blame yourself for giving them that information.
That you deposited money to Hotz' PayPal account wouldn't make you personally part of anyone's defense or offense, not in the sense that anyone would thereater drag you into court for any purpose. As you do correctly note, that information was sought and would be used solely for the purpose of establishing personal jurisdiction in California. SCEA certainly wouldn't have to go beyond evidence that "X" number of IP addresses in California made deposits to Hotz' PayPal account. End of story.

I wonder if every single member of Anonymous has gotten rid of all of their Sony products including their PS3's and games, as well as TV's and so on?

Somehow I doubt it.
They probably tried but mummy wouldn't let them.

I find it funny that a very large percentage of anonymous is "edgy" 14 year olds who don't even know what they're talking about the other half are the people that were going to use Geohotz stuff to pirate games. either way anonymous doesn't give a shit about anyones "freedom" they just wan't to be able to say "Yeah I was a part of that, Look I was cool and I had power." It's fucking pathetic.
Well if they were, would they really target Sony after a few ex-anons got arrested in the UK?

Anonymous may have been just a large group of random people doing shit for the lulz a year ago, but as the operations get bigger, and they get more PR, I wouldn't be surprised if there actually was a "core" in the internet machine that is Anon.

Meh, wild theory either way. Anyway. I hardly think it's "fucking pathetic" to have an opinion on internet privacy, do you?

YouTube and PayPal to give up personal information about people who had watched GeoHot's videos or donated money to him,
WHOA WHOA WHOA... Whaaaat? They have no authority to do that kind of police action! Even if that information was ordered to be released it is done by order of a judge, and carried out by law enforcement, not a corporation. Corporations are starting to think they can just demand people's personal information from another site by their authority alone? It's an attack on personal liberty to have your information given to private hands for possible lawsuits over what you watch on Youtube and who's defense you donate to.

No, sony, fuck you. I completely support any digital attacks, protest, or piracy of all things Sony. They want to rob us of our privacy without any sort of due process or warrants like they're the damn government, then they deserve to be pirated and be robbed of their money if they are not going to be held accountable by the courts for that.

I'm already pissed about warrantless domestic spying and lack of government due-process, but comapnies giving up personal info at the demands of another is pretty goddamn infuriating and shouldn't be allowed to do so in the first place.

Same goes for paypal, fuck them too.

Only thing I will say is they need to drop the fawkes mask, because the guy was trying to install a catholic theocracy in England

That was just silly, and it made me hate anonymous even more.
Sony and paypal demanded to know who watched a video and who donated to him and they got it without any sort involvement from law enforcement or warrants, and you're pissed at anonymous?

" unacceptable that Sony had "forced" sites like YouTube and PayPal to give up personal information about people who had watched GeoHot's videos or donated money to him, it was also unacceptable that Sony was permitted to request such information in the first place."

I flippin' agree!

ES bullshit!

I swear if the government doesn't become this all seeing big brother.. corporations will.

And fuck youtube and paypal. THey hsoul dbe attacked too. WE trust htem with our personal information and they just set hte precedent that they don't give a shit.

God damnit.

Surely anyone who donated or watched the videos can sue the companies? I mean... fuck. Class action their ass. THe court fees will eventually piss them off enough that they'll settle again.

I AM SAYING WORDS!

Most folks really don't care. I don't like that Sony grabbed info from YouTube and PayPal. I don't know how they could, but I guess it's true. "Forced"? Come on. How do you "force" someone to do something if it's illegal? Does the "forcing" affect me? No. Does it set a nasty precedent so that I might not get away with something really bad that I have planned for the future? Not really. Oddly enough, I don't have anything planned.

I find that the people who scream most about the civil liberties of society being infringed upon are those with the most to hide. Play by the rules and nobody has to get snarky.

So, should I write my legal team's phone number on my arm in Sharpie? Because I hear that Sony can get my credit card information from that permanent marker purchase. And I don't have a mask, so is a silk stocking okay? This is going to be a fun morning.

No one has the right to know what you're doing until you're suspected of a crime. Then courts can order all sorts of stuff to get information on you. but until that police work starts there's absolutely no reason privacy should be infringed upon.

YOur attitude of not doing anything wrong so you have nothing to worry about is retarded. The more peopel who have acess to your information the less secure it becomes.

So when your social security number gets stolen because it's on 8 different comapnys' servers... don't come bitching to me.

Oh great, just what is needed, more hot blooded fools smashing up shop fronts for what is right.
Great move anon, I'm sure you intend it peacefully enough but gathering in large groups with covered faces hasn't ended well for anyone recently.
