Anonymous still says it wasn't them.

Anonymous spoke up again [http://venturebeat.com/2011/05/05/anonymous-denies-psn-outage/], saying that weren't involved in the PSN credit card scandal in a press release.

Anonymous says in regards to the PSN hack, ?If a legitimate and honest investigation into credit card theft is conducted, Anonymous will not be found liable?. They also say "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our ?leadership? does not condone credit card theft."

I find it hard to imagine that whoever is sending this press release can honestly and truthfully speak for every single member on Anonymous when they say that they didn't steal the credit cards. Simply not condoning credit card theft by whatever this supposed "leadership' is supposed to consist if, isn't going to stop every single member from going out and doing whatever the hell they want.

Hey, in all fairness, they might very well be innocent; I'm certainly noone to judge. I just seems naive to me that their "leader/s" think they can account for every single one of their members. Unless I've been completely missing the point of Anonymous this whole time.

Do you still think Anon is innocent?

I still do Anon Ops at least, claiming that anon ops could be a rouge member is just as likely as a rogue PSN worker going rogue. If anything I think a rogue anon ops is less likely as they would have personal experiance with the shit storm that could go his way.

A random hacker is the most likely cause which can be refered to as Anon as he is an Anonymous hacker.
It woulden't suprise me if sony did plant it.
Also I highly doubt they would claim its not them while leaving a note.

Maybe it's an elaborate plot by the American government and Sony to implicate Anonymous in a huge server shut down and apparent stealing of delicate information when in reality they have just turned the servers off for a while. They're trying to bring Anon DOWN! 0_o

They're anonymous, wouldn't having any sort of leadership defeat the entire purpose? And even if there is some mystical leadership whom no doubt sit around in darkened rooms dressed in black trenchcoats illuminated only by the dim glow of their many monitors as they discuss the worlds many secrets with their illuminati brethren, they're 'followers' *are* anonymous so it's not like they have any real control anyway.

The point I'm getting is that in a structure as chaotic as theirs, who's to say a member, if not multiple members working together, aren't responsible? It would be impossible to know until they were caught and even then because of the nature of any anonymous group they could still claim/deny being members and no one would ever be able to really know.

This is silly.

So you had a conversation with him then? Is he will? We've been meaning to grab some coffee for awhile but work has me tied down these days.

And I still believe them. These are not the sort of people to not gloat over a victory. It may have been members of Anonymous, but they wouldn't be doing this as Anonymous.

Um...do you take Anonymous seriously any other times? Why should this be any different?

Well, kind of. I'd like to elaborate on:

Anonymous does indeed have a lot of member who don't, for lack of a better term, report to the main members. This does make it hard for the group to make decisions as a whole, because 'all members of Anonymous' is a meaningless concept. It's a necessary evil of the way Anon operates and the underlying ideology of power being taken back by the people through their own actions.

It is possible that the people who stole the credit card info have acted as part of Anonymous in the past. However, the majority of people who do don't agree with what has happened. Anonymous wants to be clear on this fact. Hence the statement. Their leaders aren't naive enough to believe they can account for every single member. They can, however, account for the group as a whole. Deviations from the core ideology should be seen as actions by the individuals rather than Anonymous as a group.

I hope I've explained the matter sufficiently to facilitate your understanding.

Actually, yeah, that does make a lot of sense. Still, it just seems really pointless that members of Anonymous are still free to do whatever they want/can outside of the group. I know that's not really anything Anonymous has any power over, and that there's no actual evidence that it's ever happened, but the fact that it would otherwise be so easy for the members to do whatever they please outside of Anon, makes their morals seem so... self-righteous? I dunno, that's just how I think of it.

It's not their MO, half of them probably USE the network, why would they shut it down?
What's their grudge or reasoning behind the attack?

At best, it may well have been a single member of anonymous acting outside of anonymous' bounds, thus a singular entity working alone and not anonymous, but one that has connections and place within the group.

Blaming Sony's fuck ups on anonymous is just stupid.

Right. Sony screwed the pooch and now they just want to push the blame onto someone else...

How typical.

Honestly, I don't think Anon did it and that Sony is just trolling them at the moment. I'm hoping that eventually they'll get that everybody knows they did it themselves and they'll shut up....

Well the criminal said he's innocent, guess we'd better look somewhere else now...
