I think it would be almost the best case scenario if they had done it. I could atleast be fairly certain that the info wouldn't be abused. For real I think these big company's should work together with hackers they know what can be done and can certainly improve security. Criminals or not these guys are anarchists and won't harm you and may even help you unless you harm them first.
If they say they didn't do it then that is where they 'officially' stand on the issue, the person/people who did are therefore separate from anon on this matter even if they would have been part of the collective when warring against say scientology.

If I remember correctly, when people first started to point fingers at Anon, they came out and said that They didnt do it. I beleive that they went further to say that it may have been some of their members, but if it was it was not an action sanctioned by the group as a whole, and that those members would have been acting on their own accord.
Of course, by that logic, if Anonymous is made up of 100 people then 99 of them could have been taking down the PSN while the 100th was blogging that they didnt do it as anonymous...

You know what would be super cool? If Anon actually went out and found the hacker themselves. I'm positive it'd be well within their power, and that's the best sort of PR they could get right now.
Course, I see no reason as to why they'd want to, unless the majority of them were personally affected by the PSN hack themselves. I highly doubt they give a rat's arse what everybody else thinks of them anyway, as to whether or not they hacked PSN themselves.
Still, just a funny thought. Sony all but pointing the finger at Anon, then all of a sudden Anon are like "we've got your man right here", while Sony mumbles a half-hearted thankyou under its breath.

There are two possibilities here.
First is you have either a rogue anon, or just a hacker(s) in general not affiliated with anon.
Second is that this is an intentional stunt that Sony underestimated just how out of control it would get and is now in a position that they have to have ANYONE be the scapegoat.
Honestly I find the latter infinitely more likely. Anon had no reason to do this. But with Sonys Anti piracy crusade... they had all the reason in the world to think pulling a stunt like this would yeild benefits. They, again, just miscalculated what peoples response would be,.

I think the person that planted the 'Anonymous' file is just trying to frame Anon and get the suspicion away from them.
That would be highly entertaining. They've partaken in cyber-vigilantism before, haven't they? When they got that kid arrested for torturing a cat? Admittedly a whole different kettle of fish, but I'm sure they could pull it off. I don't see Anon as the kind of organization that helps out a someone like Sony, who has billions of dollars and lawyers and whatevers. A company who maybe decided that keeping more money in their pockets instead of protecting the customers who supported that same company?
