I've never owned a Zelda game or a Wii so I guess I'll get secondhand information from my friend who is a Zelda fanboy. As for the scoring systems? Well I'll believe them when I've tried the game for myself.
In my book, every Zelda game I played is better than Majora's Mask. The three day time mechanic killed the game for me. Phantom Hourglass was only slightly better because the time mechanic was left in that one temple. Games that have unreasonable time mechanics like MM and PH are just stupid, it is an idiotic way to add difficulty and it removes the whole relaxation and exploration aspect of such games.Jove said:No Zelda game beats Majora's Mask imo.
Wrong. It was certainly just a silly difficulty mechanic in Phantom Hourglass, but Majora's mask wouldn't work without the 3 day mechanic; the entire game is centred around it. Having a set timeline allowed them to have many npcs be able to follow a set path throughout the 3 days, as well have certain events happen at certain times, which gave much more depth to the world. It was constantly changing, and the fact that you had to rewind the game so often to see everything hammered home just how deep the gameworld was, and how much was hidden under the surface. With no timelimit, events would have to be much more static, only occuring when you come across them, instead of happening on their own. Also, it's not like you aren't given enough time, with the song of reverse time played you get around an hour and a half of gametime, which is more than enough to finish any of the dungeons. On subsequent runs I could often leave Clocktown, finish all the events leading up to a new dungeon and finish the dungeon itself before the end of the second day.Sonic Doctor said:Games that have unreasonable time mechanics like MM and PH are just stupid, it is an idiotic way to add difficulty and it removes the whole relaxation and exploration aspect of such games.
The problem comes when you first player the game as a 12 year old and you frantically search around in those first 3 days (which is more like a few minutes) and the world ends and... you're reset to the start. All the stuff you collected: gone. All your progress: gone. All the unskippale tutorials: must be repeated.Outright Villainy said:Wrong. It's all subjective. After all I would like to know what the GamesRadar reviewer considers "objectively" better, because he said that Darksiders was the only game that SS was better than. The thing is that I enjoyed Darksiders more than TP and was "objectively" better in my opinion. I get the impression that he thought that people would be outraged if he had said it was better than TP or WW and that no-one would defend Darksiders.chaosyoshimage said:http://www.gamesradar.com/legend-zelda-skyward-sword-review/
So, Games Radar gave it a 9, surprised they think Twilight Princess is "better", while I don't think it was a bad game, it was really the bottom of the barrel when it comes to 3D Zelda...
To be fair, it's only the first 45 minutes or so that's like that, once you reach skull kid and get your ocarina back you can rewind time (which saves all your items/dungeon progress), and you can also slow down time, making the game a lot more relaxed. I failed the opening the first time as well, but second time i breezed through it, there's only a few things to do.Treblaine said:The problem comes when you first player the game as a 12 year old and you frantically search around in those first 3 days (which is more like a few minutes) and the world ends and... you're reset to the start. I felt like some jerk had just reset my game console and deleted my save data. It was FUCKING ANNOYING! It was not pleasant, it was not fun. I was trapped and being fucked a 2nd time I gave up.
I suppose I could find a strategy guide to tell me where to go to find a way of rewinding time but REALLY? I have to use a strategy guide to EVEN START THE GAME!?!?
It destroyed the sense of open freedom, you couldn't just enjoy the world and appreciate your progress just panic over that fucking meter and how all your progress would be undone and STILL I COULD FIND NO WAY OF REWINDING TIME! I was still stuck as a deku kid... oh my god, I hated Majora's Mask. I CANNOT EVEN START IT!
And i 100% Ocarina of Time, I played Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Majora's mask was unreasonable. Why so much trial and error frantically running around with utter futility?
Question: why the f... FuUuuuuUUUuUFUck can't you just be KEEP the ocarina from the start?Outright Villainy said:To be fair, it's only the first 45 minutes or so that's like that, once you reach skull kid and get your ocarina back you can rewind time (which saves all your items/dungeon progress), and you can also slow down time, making the game a lot more relaxed. 1) Go find the missing fairy (either near the inn or near kafei's house.) Go bring the fairy to the great fairy to get the bubble attack.
2) Use the bubble attack to pop the kid's baloon, play their game, get the code, go into the dungeon and get the moon tear from outside the observatory.
3) Bring the moon tear to the deku scrub outside the tower and trade it for his spot. Once you have the launch plant you can easily get up to the tower.
And that's pretty much it. It definitely is confusing at first, but I don't think it'd be too hard to follow the logic if you'd played Ocarina of time a lot, and it kinda is designed for veterans of that game. You'll never be in a position of losing your progress after that really, aside from having to do half a dungeon again here or there. (only half since you keep the weapon you get half way, which is designed to make it easy to get back to where you were)
IGN does have some pretty stupid reviewers though, ie Saints Row 3 the guy complains that the side characters are too immature and yet he is playing a giant breasted female who he strips nude and paints her like a geisha and is using the giant dildo weapon... hypocrisy up the wazoo.erttheking said:Oh look the realized the IGN are the first three letters in ignorance oh that's so cute and it must be fact because clever little children came up with it...god I hate people who bash like those who bash IGN, they don't even have any solid facts to their claims that IGN takes bribes.
