I've never owned a Zelda game or a Wii so I guess I'll get secondhand information from my friend who is a Zelda fanboy. As for the scoring systems? Well I'll believe them when I've tried the game for myself.

No Zelda game beats Majora's Mask imo.
In my book, every Zelda game I played is better than Majora's Mask. The three day time mechanic killed the game for me. Phantom Hourglass was only slightly better because the time mechanic was left in that one temple. Games that have unreasonable time mechanics like MM and PH are just stupid, it is an idiotic way to add difficulty and it removes the whole relaxation and exploration aspect of such games.

Such mechanics should only be extra side things for people to do if they want to add the difficulty. There should be a normal mode for people that want to play a proper and normal game. Normal mode for MM would be that it would just say that the moon is crashing, but I can take all the time in the world I need to beat the game, also giving me the time to experiment, explore, and mess around as I like to do in Zelda games.

Like how they put in an infinite time mode in Dead Rising, though they crapped on that by making it only available once you beat that timed crap part, though of course for me that never happened, because games that game-wise unnaturally rush me, are unplayable.

For me, in the console sector, nothing beats Wind Waker(the first console Zelda that I beat, because the story held my attention, it was actually interesting and new, instead of "just" Ganon has captured Zelda.), in the handheld sector, nothing beats Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons.

Normally, I'm a little skeptical of perfect scores, but if the Escapist's review is to be believed, Skyward Sword really does go a long way toward addressing the three common complaints most people had with Twilight Princess: A lack of difficulty, extremely formulaic gameplay and drab, dreary visuals.

This is a 10 that might actually be well deserved. Of course, if it were me, I'd knock off a point or two for the simple fact that you can't play the game with a real controller, but that's just me.

Wrong. It was certainly just a silly difficulty mechanic in Phantom Hourglass, but Majora's mask wouldn't work without the 3 day mechanic; the entire game is centred around it. Having a set timeline allowed them to have many npcs be able to follow a set path throughout the 3 days, as well have certain events happen at certain times, which gave much more depth to the world. It was constantly changing, and the fact that you had to rewind the game so often to see everything hammered home just how deep the gameworld was, and how much was hidden under the surface. With no timelimit, events would have to be much more static, only occuring when you come across them, instead of happening on their own. Also, it's not like you aren't given enough time, with the song of reverse time played you get around an hour and a half of gametime, which is more than enough to finish any of the dungeons. On subsequent runs I could often leave Clocktown, finish all the events leading up to a new dungeon and finish the dungeon itself before the end of the second day.

Zelda console titles always get 10/10's thrown at them really. It's very rare that they score under 9 that's for certain. But whatever this one does look pretty good. Emphasis on PRETTY the art style is great and looks more like traditional Zelda than Twilight Princess did.

This game has taken 5 god damn years to make and is made by one of the most reliably brilliant minds in the industry, Miyamoto, and is pretty much the sole worth-while Wii exclusive for 2011 and certainly in the last 12 months while likely will be the last note-worthy wii exclusive for a long time.

They HAD to make this game good, they took long enough and put enough eggs in one basket.

And it's freaking Zelda, no one else does anything like Zelda-games!

The problem comes when you first player the game as a 12 year old and you frantically search around in those first 3 days (which is more like a few minutes) and the world ends and... you're reset to the start. All the stuff you collected: gone. All your progress: gone. All the unskippale tutorials: must be repeated.

I felt like some jerk had just reset my game console and deleted my save data. It was FUCKING ANNOYING! It was not pleasant, it was not fun. I was trapped and being fucked a 2nd time I gave up.

I suppose I could find a strategy guide to tell me where to go to find a way of rewinding time but REALLY? I have to use a strategy guide to EVEN START THE GAME!?!?

It destroyed the sense of open freedom, you couldn't just enjoy the world and appreciate your progress just panic over that fucking meter and how all your progress would be undone and STILL I COULD FIND NO WAY OF REWINDING TIME! I was still stuck as a deku kid... oh my god, I hated Majora's Mask. I CANNOT EVEN START IT!

And i 100% Ocarina of Time, I played Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Majora's mask was unreasonable. Why so much trial and error frantically running around with utter futility?

So, Games Radar gave it a 9, surprised they think Twilight Princess is "better", while I don't think it was a bad game, it was really the bottom of the barrel when it comes to 3D Zelda...
It's all subjective. After all I would like to know what the GamesRadar reviewer considers "objectively" better, because he said that Darksiders was the only game that SS was better than. The thing is that I enjoyed Darksiders more than TP and was "objectively" better in my opinion. I get the impression that he thought that people would be outraged if he had said it was better than TP or WW and that no-one would defend Darksiders.

To be fair, it's only the first 45 minutes or so that's like that, once you reach skull kid and get your ocarina back you can rewind time (which saves all your items/dungeon progress), and you can also slow down time, making the game a lot more relaxed. I failed the opening the first time as well, but second time i breezed through it, there's only a few things to do.
1) Go find the missing fairy (either near the inn or near kafei's house.) Go bring the fairy to the great fairy to get the bubble attack.
2) Use the bubble attack to pop the kid's baloon, play their game, get the code, go into the dungeon and get the moon tear from outside the observatory.
3) Bring the moon tear to the deku scrub outside the tower and trade it for his spot. Once you have the launch plant you can easily get up to the tower.

And that's pretty much it. It definitely is confusing at first, but I don't think it'd be too hard to follow the logic if you'd played Ocarina of time a lot, and it kinda is designed for veterans of that game. You'll never be in a position of losing your progress after that really, aside from having to do half a dungeon again here or there. (only half since you keep the weapon you get half way, which is designed to make it easy to get back to where you were)

As much as I hate the Wii, I love the Zelda series. I am seriously considering buying a preowned Wii and this game at some point, the thought of not playing this game is just making me sad.

And for the record, Majoras Mask is not only one of my favourite games of all time, it is the best Zelda ever made.

I got it on pre-order and can't wait for it. Then yesterday I found out my pre-order receipt went through the washing machine...

Question: why the f... FuUuuuuUUUuUFUck can't you just be KEEP the ocarina from the start?

It's a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, you HAD the Ocarina. It was removed from you by contrived means, why do I have to leap through so many fucking hoops to get it back!!! That's 3 stages I have to figure out in 45 minutes, have you ANY IDEA HOW MANY PERMUTATIONS THERE ARE!?!?!

You only get one chance to make a first impression and Majora's Mask made a VERY bad first impression! You cannot compliment so much of the rest of the game without giving recognition for how so many simply could not even start it! And I was figuring out PC gaming in the 90's, I could install Half Life and all the drivers and patches but I couldn't figure out how to make progress in Majora's mask.

Majora's Mask may be the best game I have never played (played properly) but God damn it, why grr, I can't tell you what a betrayal this is after all the previous and subsequent Zelda games that were just so seamless and perfectly paced oh gaaaaaawd!!

IGN does have some pretty stupid reviewers though, ie Saints Row 3 the guy complains that the side characters are too immature and yet he is playing a giant breasted female who he strips nude and paints her like a geisha and is using the giant dildo weapon... hypocrisy up the wazoo.
Granted there are various non IGN reviewers who are guilty of it sometimes like Total Biscuit on his WTF is MW3.
But for IGN there is just enough to be noticeable where what they say and score really is completely opposite and you're left there scratching your head.
