Recently read the comic for the first time.

Honestly struggling to see what the fuss is about.
I generally thought it was great that we got an origin story with the Joker. Yes I know there were other ones and wheather or not this or another was canon at all but this origin did made Joker abit sympathy if only slightly.
Okay, so I'm neither a huge superhero fan a batman fan nor indeed a big comic fan. (I think the medium makes for inherently poor pacing.) So I'll happily admit that there may be something I'm missing here.

However. I always thought the Joker's lack of distinct origin and incomprehensible motives made him more interesting. Solve the mystery and it becomes less interesting, y'know?

Plus this origin was... kinda silly. His pregnant wife dies in an accident and then he falls into a vat of chemicals. Colour me unimpressed.
Yeah, I sort of liked the dry realism of it with his wife, but then the botched robbery with the silly costume and chemicals completely undercut the tone and just made it almost... comedic.... wait a second!

For real though, I thought there were a few clever bits (including the fact that the story itself alludes to its own inaccuracy), it's just not THAT good. The eternal "what REALLY happens at the end" debate did make for some fun conversations.

Love the trailer. Love the dark piercing eyes on the Joker when he shoots Barbra, very creepy giving that Attack On Titans vibe.

I think the Killing Joke is overrated, but on it's own merits it is a good little story. I'm just curious if they do the real ending in the cartoon where...

it's implied, Batman kills Joker

Doesn't he literally say that he prefers his origin to be multiple choice? There's enough evidence to argue that Joker was lying his ass off during that whole sob story.
He does say that, yes.

But if the origin isn't real then what is its value to the story? Why include it? I suppose it could show that the Joker himself doesn't know how he came about, but it's an awfully long-winded and vague way of saying that.

Besides, the origin story being of questionable authenticity doesn't make it any more interesting or any less goofy.
