Thanks for posting this QuestioN!

Its kind of weird that the Majority (and I mean majority) of guys who play games feel like its their own private secret thing they do that they can only do with guys. Its like they've made it up in their heads. Just like its weird for them that girls would be Programmers or IT or *Gasp, like comics.

What kind of stone age do they live in? Didn't we get past all of this a few decades ago?

You tend not to get teased unless you draw a bunch of attention to yourself ("Haha, you just got beat by a giiiirl!"), in which case you have it coming because you're annoying.

I am unlucky enough to sound like a 13 year old boy over mic (curse my alto voice), so I do get people messing with me, but it's not because I'm female.

This is true, though. In real life, a chick that likes X-Men and knows the difference between DC and Marvel/knows anything about programming/plays p&p games is like some kind of absurdity. Albeit an attractive one.

Ugh, it's kind of true? It's not angering but it's kind of boring at this point because when you're actually PLAYING the game there's no difference. In an FPS I click on people until they fall over, it's not like I do it with my tits or anything exciting like that.

WooOOoOOOoOOOooo! I'm the ghost of female-gamers! Come with me, I will show you something! *takes your hand and soars out trough your bedroom window*
You're the first person to ever literally terrify me over the internet. Gratz I suppose.

But seriously, I may not have played a HUGE amount of online games but I haven't even heard a female voice over chat before. Plus none of the girls I've EVER met in my LIFE have even the remotest interest... except the one I mentioned before who basically once played Monkey Island...

Maybe they're hiding from me...

I'm pretty sure that knowing Monkey Island exists qualifies you as a gamer. *cough*Bestgameever*cough*

Also, I reckon that a lot of women just don't bother talking. To avoid the, "Why do you have an Xbox in your kitchen?" etc.

I don't think I've ever been harrassed for it. I don't use my mic often though, or maybe I'm just lucky.

I do get people cussing at me for being a Backburner noob, once they even called me a fag. It's pretty satisfying to be able to say back "Not exactly, but I do like men".

On the other hand, most girls I've heard from say most players mistake them for young boys. Then they get hounded for being a kid. According to people I play with, I sound like a 10-year-old boy.

I was also usually convinced to be The Girl when playing L4D, but I only play with a few guys I already know are just joking around. They also make me be Rochelle and badger me to equip frying pans.

I usually stay quite during online matches, but earlier today during a left 4 dead 2 match I decided to manually select the female character, and before the zombies were even rushing us two of the other survivors started throwing the make me a sandwich insult. suddenly remembered why I usually avoid given them any more than my screen name

It has happened a few times to me and my sister-in-law, the getting hit on thing. But then, that's why we don't play random matches.

This shit also happens irl as well. If you are a girl, chances are you've had unwanted guy attention at one time or another. I don't really view online any different. You learn brush it off if you aren't interested.

I have been shit talked to by 11 year old boys with requests to perform sexual acts, but you know what, I don't think I'm all that special. I've also heard 11 year old boys say the same things to my buddies. Apparently at that age, you aren't too picky about where you get your sexual favors from.

Also, it seems a bit desperate to me, quite frankly. I mean, do these guys think this will work, and some girl will be attracted to them by their mad gaming ski11z? It's been a long time since I dated, but I have to say, dudes, you may be standing out of the crowd crowing like a rooster over my headset. But you stand out in a bad way. I'm just sayin.

I know for a fact that female toons get treated better on Wow. I don't play on either of the console services so I cant speak from experience.

Yes, you see I would agree if maybe that wasn't the ONLY game... which it is... plus it's probably only because she has an older brother.

SO YOU ADMIT YOU'RE HIDING!!! I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!

But yeah, I can imagine that. I don't have a mic so I guess other than that whole using-my-name-in-conjunction-with-my-gender-as-my-username thing nobody would know if I was female.

Anyway, rest assured I'm now terrified of you... *cowers in fear*

Exactly, I fail to see how there is any difference whatsoever.

On a side note, I'm now trying to imagine how someone would do that.

I played TF2 a lot a couple months ago. Everyone hit on me, but it was ok, I found it more funny than anything else and I didn't take it seriously. On XBOX live, no one has ever treated me badly, though they usually assume I'm a 12 year old boy before I tell them otherwise. Whenever someone started treating me like crap, I found that most people defended me and berated the offensive guy. It's good to be a girl gamer. I have the time of my life!

Yes, I creep around in the shadows and ambush you when you least expect it! Mwhahahah!

Safe to say tho, I NEVER go to a games convention in a skirt. I usually looove wearing them cause their so comfortable, but female at games convention gets so many eyes its really uncomfortable... Baggy jeans and a sweater usually takes away all the focus =3. And if girl gamers in general are a bit like me, you see it's a lot of "undercover" stuff going on with us not actually giving ourselves away as girls.

Now, the whole "I need to show that I'm female with my username" thing, I never really got. Although there was that one time that I called myself Ihaveapenis1337.

In all seriousness though, be more creative. Please. I'll only kill you more if you don't.

I don't get harrassed, but whenever I play Modern Warfare 2 online, people think I'm a 10 year old boy when I talk and refuse to believe I am in fact a woman. It's like they're in denial that we play games too.

Look up Chesty Morgan ;-)

Being a pretty much non online player because most of them are annoying little kids I can't say I've noticed many girls but as a male I have played as a female character on MMOs and the amount of attention I got from doing that slightly scared and saddened me.
