Ahoy hoy. I've been going through my music, and found its rather bland all of a sudden. I've listened to it all to death.
What do you recommend?

I'm mostly into Ambient, but a havent found many artists that arent boring to begin with, so i also go for kinda glitchy Electronica stuff, Game Soundtracks, and some Minimal or whatever they call that nonsense... ill spoiler some examples.

Apart from this, ive liked some... bands... but i have no idea why, as i usually hate the sound of electric guitars and well... most instruments they use really.
and those were:
Bloc Party
Coldplay (a long time ago)
Does It You Offen You, Yeah?
...thats probably about it...

...and it one stage i loved Trance, particularly...

For discussion purposes... do you have similar tastes, and why? What do you look for in music?
If I had to answer, I'd say, I look for music that silences my thoughts and lets me concentrate when i need to.

Post away! :)

You might like Atlas Plug slightly. It's electronic, mainly fast paced music but it sounds good.

As for gamingsound tracks, I love the HL2 one. Doesn't fit in with what you like but it's good.

Sorry, cant be of much more help then that.

To be honest though I have no idea what I look for in music. My tastes are very varied. It's mainly just personal taste I guess. Doesn't matter what type, as long as I like it.

Get absolutely everything by Devin Townsend. Period. You don't like electronic guitars? Too bad!

I had all the HL soundtracks because I bought audiosurf, and I did like it, but never found myself listening to it... The portal soundtrack was great though.

As for atlas plug, I've not heard of them before... I'll have a listen when I'm awake and not on my iPod and edit my opinion in ^^

And im awake! :D
Atlus Plugs sounds good, im gonna give them a good look, thanks!

...ok, lets listen to the rest ^^

Well, as I do in all music threads I shall recommend Red Hot Chili Peppers. They may even be relevant in this case. They're not techno, but I see some fairly unusual music here, and they play what's known as "funk rock", which can be quite trippy and has a huge variety. Mind you, you've probably heard of them, but still.

And their latest single...

Well, you might enjoy blackfield?
(this song in particular is a tad depressing, but it's so beautiful!! And it seems to have that 'ambient' quality you like) There's tons more great Blackfield songs about, I suggest you give them a listen :)

And maybe Woodkid? (this dude deserves more love). Some of you might know him for the music he did for the Assassin's Creed Revelations trailer. I love his music, it's something else.

And yeah, huge RHCP fan here too, I'd definitely suggest you check them out! Maybe if you're yearning from something new you could try some of their B-sides, quixoticelixer for example.

it could do a little more, but that heavy, dark atmosphere is something i would listen to on the right, dreary, rainy, bus journey down to the job centre... thanks to you too! :D

Here's a cool band.

Ive heard of this band, from scott pilgrim of course... but i havent found much that i really like. Another Winter was a favourite of mine for some time, after a friend convinced me to get that arcade demo and it was used on the first level.
All that said, ive never had a proper look at them and perhaps its time i did...

These arent bad at all, the seconds better than the first. I dont see how these are related to MLP besides the pictures, they couldve just named them :/ ...anyway... yes good, more arguments supporting the internet music compilation i planned on making a while ago ^^

Now these are good... but they have this kind of... RPG title screen/trailer kind of feel that puts me off for some reason. The image in my head in certain parts is the WoW:BC log in page >.> ...and those are not memories to bring back...

Ag! Acoustic soppy stuff >.> ok... i shouldnt say that...
It was ok... acoustic guitar isnt bad, that style of piano isnt too bad... but then he started singing...
hmmm... it only seems to be between 0:30 and about 1:00, that puts me off it... and maybe the topic, thats ruined songs of even my favourite artist.
ok... i cant find it... theres a live one :/

this is an amazing video >.> ...and a pretty good song to boot, unsure about the lyrics early on, but it does get a lot better from that point ^^ ...i really like this video though...

Whilst I'm also a lover of all things ambient and glitchtronica-esque, the LP (yes, I still use those two letters in that combination.. ) I'm currently listening to is: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, my one Mr Kanye West. At just under 70mins long, it's a bona fide proper album of epic proportions, a colossal achievement. Narcissistic, introspective, crass, bonkers genius... It even samples Aphex Twin without ruining the original.

A more down the line recommendation would be Lali Puna:

Left Handed [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s6yz7WblbY]
6-0-3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5Yg8uVVP0c]

And a little more glitchier, Dntel:

Suddenly Is Sooner Than You Think [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hd3X3eIkq0]

And a slice of brilliantly poppy electronica, Figurine:
55566688833 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN1wLod8VKk] (bittersweet, catchy electro genius)

Lali Puna, never heard of her/them, and very good :D ...Reminds me of Four Tet and, for some reason, Portished... another i shall be have a further look at...

Dntel, not heard of this either... i could definitely see that i might like something that they/he might do... i looked around for some time, but perhaps its a little downbeat? perhaps ill at other albums rather than just Life is Full of Posibilities, because the James Figurine track you linked was right on the other side of that spectrum, and i believe its the same person?

thanks ^^ lots of stuff to look around for now >.>

Do ya like Goa trance? I have a fair bit of that in between my piles of metal.

I really prefer bass and melody focused bands, i guess.

garjian, if you like, I'll put together some choice Lali Puna tracks and post 'em here, or PM you. There are plenty 'better' groups who make more ambitious music, but Valerie Trebeljahr and her cohorts make music with such charm and warmth, that it's impossible not to love them. Well, if you like 'em in the first place, obviously.
Saw them in a small pub in Brum a few years back, and despite the venue they were great.

If you like Lali Puna it's worth looking up other artists on Morr Music (their label), as they publish a lot of similarly nifty German/European indietronica.

And yep, James Tamborello is Dntel and Figurine - he has a few guises. Figurine are definitely more upbeat and punchy, and that track's probably my favourite of what I've heard so far. Lali Puna I know inside and out, but Dntel/Figurine I'm less familiar with; I've just collected a few tracks off LastFM, and I've always meant to look him up properly.

Eisenfunk are an industrial/techno-y band, as are Straftanz. Two Steps From Hell and X-Ray Dog generally do trailer music and the last one is Michael McCann's 'Icarus' {the main theme from Human Revolutions.}

I think you will like this, classic ambient Drum and Bass from the early 90's.

Mixed By the well known Andy C when he was only 15 years old.

Also, you can't go wrong with a bit of Massive Attack.

If you want something a bit more heavier with a Techno/Hardcore vibe to it, got you covered.
