Hmm. You like ambient music? Interesting.

Sparklehorse aren't ambient overall (I dunno wtf they are) but they've had some run-ins with the genre. Example:

The first ones not bad, hes a little happy with that rising sparkly noise (as i call it) ...i definately like it ^^ ...whats this about a long, dark tunnel though?

Massive Attack, ive definitely heard plenty of their stuff, i dont own any of it, ive never been sure why... Both them and Portished are good but... i dunno... i should really get some albums >.>

Techno/Metal and 'Hardcore Techno' is a no-go. it just blends into noise and... yeah, i dont get much out of it.

Eisenfunk are an industrial/techno-y band, as are Straftanz. Two Steps From Hell and X-Ray Dog generally do trailer music and the last one is Michael McCann's 'Icarus' {the main theme from Human Revolutions.}

The 3rd one reminds me of Fable 1... a lot >.> well, at least it the beginning, its gets very dramatic as it builds... its so close to forming that WoW:BC login screen, but God of War memories keep pushing it back... i generally dont like dramatic trailer music kind of stuff, but the beginnings really good.

The 5th, is... well its still building as i type...
...its good, yeah pretty good... if anything, a little dramatic-trailer-y, but the electronic style keeps that back...

Yeah, ATR is an acquired taste, with it's loud balls to the wall sound. So, I don't blame you for not liking it.

The whole long dark tunnel thing is just a typical catchy drum and bass lyric line, it's not really suppose to make any sense.

I have one Massive attack album, so i really should sit down and listen to all of it really, at some point.

I find it very hypnotic, so I can see why you listened to the whole thing. It used to be the longest song in my iTunes library (before I discovered Pink Floyd). As it stands, it's probably my favourite Sparklehorse song.

As for the Homeworld OST, if you're thinking of getting it, it can only be found here [http://homeworld.wikia.com/wiki/Relic_Community_Homeworld_Soundtrack_2.0] IIRC. The tiny little songs usually aren't worth getting (just weird sound effects from the cutscenes) but most of the longer ones are very pleasant.

EDIT: Actually, forget what I said, some of the shorter songs are great mood-setting pieces too.

I know you said you typically don't dig the sound of electric guitars, but if you're looking for something to silence your thoughts and let your concentrate of stuff, then I'd look up some stuff by Poets of the Fall. They have some pretty good music that lets you wind down and just set yourself straight.
