I doubt I'm the only one who's noticed this but the restriction of firearms would help to stop events like this from occuring (it's very difficult to shoot someone if you don't have a gun), granted, criminals will still be able to aquire firearms from the black market but these are often very expensive and hard for your average street thug to attain.

Compare the fact that America (where guns are readily avalible to most, if not all, citizens) has dramatically more gun related murders per year than England (where gun ownership is generally not permitted under any circumstance), am I the only one who's noticed something here?
Where are you getting those statistics from? And further, the populations are far different. You have to look at percentages, regional differences, &c. It's not apples to apples, here.
try looking them up on the internet, you'll see that relative to population america has a WAY higher murder rate than most countries.

look at Japan where murder by gun is under 50 per year and they have a way higher population density than both the UK and USA and yet them banning guns has worked pretty well.

there is TONS of evidence that banning or heavily restricting firearms will reduce violence related to guns. Canada is a fairly well armed country and yet a very low percentage of gun violence due to heavy restrictions on them.

so yes heavy restriction and/or banning guns is VERY effective for reducing gun violence

America has a higher murder rate than Britain, but it always had that problem, and banning guns completely in Britain did nothing to widen the gap.

I don't see being killed by a knife or fists as a significant improvement to being killed by a gun. I think it's more useful to talk about reducing crime, not reducing gun-crime, as the effect is much the same. It's like you want to ban guns for its own sake.

There is some evidence that banning guns will reduce violence related to guns. But there is no evidence that it will significantly reduce overall violence, and tons of evidence to the contrary. For every safe authoritarian country you name, I can name a safer one that is far better armed.

A town in America made it illegal to not own a firearm. Their crime rate was low to begin with and it stayed low. There was no penalty for breaking the law, of course, they just did it to prove a point. Gun bans extend the power of the government and in most cases provide little or no benefit to the populace.
