Well CoD is beyond help, it was designed with cheap tricks so any starting player get right into the thick of it, can't fix that without a complete overhaul.

So for some other multiplayer games this could work quite nicely:
- keep kill streaks only as honorary titles (sort of like Unreal Tournament did), otherwise you just got kill whoring 24/7 on all maps and all game types
- map unlockables buyable with points earned for the team (kills would earn little, cooperative kills would earn more and doing/protecting objectives would earn the most)
- have all rewards down to earth, those over the top "I win" rewards really don't anything to the game

I think that in a game like CoD the current system works fine but for a game like Battlefield which is more tactical it needs to be different. In Bad Company 2 there was a "Squad" system and I think they could put this to good use with Killstreaks. So every squad should have a squad leader who should be an experienced player who decides when and where killstreaks get used. These killstreaks have to be earned as a squad though and any kills gained from them are added to everyone in the squads score.
Nice idea but wouldn't work unless you where friends with everyone on your team. There is too much potential for grieving plus its not much of a pay-off for doing well if some guy gets 40 kills and captures 10 flags and the rest of the team don't do anything but they get to use the kill-streak its not very fair.

No matter how cool your songs are, I'd still teabag you if you went Second Chance in the same lobby as me.
Funny you mention that because I've just finished a song about teabagging team-mates who use Second Chance. (I really have, by the way)
I'd like to think that song was inspired by my comments on that recent second chance thread but I guess that would just be wishful thinking.

Nope, it was a request by a youtuber I've worked with before. He's making a Second Chance failtage.

Here's an idea: DON'T award killstreaks in FPS. Why on earth would you have the game stack the odds in favour of those who are doing well anyway?
Amen brother..... AMEN.....

Sounds like a brilliant alternative, forward to all developers, quick.

I have to play my mp5 with rapid+acog, crossbow, semtex, nova, claymore, second chance, scavenger and warlord. Good for rambo and brief sniping.
In truth that actually sounds horrible, rapid with Acog? my god the kick back must be fucking crazy. Then the crossbow, horribly difficult to use well. And Nova grenades are only good for objective.

I think killstreaks one of many terrible design decisions in Call of Duty - the reason why the game is full of corner-campers, run-and-gunners, noob toobers, and the like is because the mechanics encourage maximizing your K/D and killstreaks by any means necessary. Regen health, killstreaks, low player health, lack of team-based abilities, small/cramped maps, the infamous spawn system, and so on all encourage lone wolfing. Honestly, after leaving CoD for Battlefield and Team Fortress, the difference is night and day. The latter two games are basically better in every possible way - even the deathmatch aspect is improved because people are actually playing the objective.

That's kind of like Resistance 2 MP (without the only using them once thing). You got to use your 'killstreak' by getting a set amount of XP. The amount varies based on what 'killstreak' you picked.

I never use the crossbow to start with it is just there if its a bit boring for whatever reason. The kick back doesn't affect it to much because it starts with low recoil and fires enough bullets that doesn't matter. Nova gas choke points and clean up with mp5. Acog allows long distance burst fire with surprising accuracy.

The main reason for this setup is I dont play enough to unlock better weapons.
I mostly play split.

I have often thought that the number of kills required for a special thingy should be proportional to your level, or score, or both. That way people who are more experienced (and theoretically better) at the game still have to work for them, whereas someone who's new and doesn't know all the tricks or have the nicer guns still has a chance to call stuff in.
