Johann Liebert, Crazy Fucking Anti-Christ.
Bernkastel, the Witch of Miracles Who is definitely, good powers bad people (I can search through all the possibilities to help you find your happy end, or trap you in the worst kakera imaginable. I really don't know how this thing came out of Rika Furude.)
Lucifer Morningstar, although he's more of an affably evil anti-villain.

Myrrah in Gears 3. Mainly because Marcus went from making no impression on me in 1 or 2 to outright p***ing me off with his myopia with regards to his father/his loss in 3. The way he just brushes asides several narrative changing revelations about the locust, and his general disinterest in all of Griffins stranded he got killed (plus how by this point the COG has been blatantly up to some really unpleasant crap, and he still acts like anyone who distrust them are morons).

Whil Myrrah may be in denial depending on you look at it, you can firmly understand her frustration and desperation to save her people.

Reading through Deathnote, the farther I got through the narrative the more I liked L and the more I felt uneasy about/disliked Light. I really liked that series in general and how it centered around the antagonist instead of trying to be a straight-up murder mystery.

As I figured would happen quickly, several people have already mentioned Vaas from Far Cry 3 being about 1000x more interesting than Jason Brody, but just had to mention it again.

Even though he was a different character in the sequel, I liked Alex Mercer way more than James Heller. I just found Heller really annoying.

The Brotherhood of NOD and, of course, Kane, were always way more interesting than GDI in the Command and Conquer games. ALL HAIL KANE!!

I liked Virgil better than Dante in the Devil May Cry games.

And probably the one where I was most rooting for the bad guys: The Killzone games. The Helghast were so much freakin' cooler than the ISA or whatever they were called. Cooler weapons, cooler uniforms, they functioned like an actual Military, and they were actually kinda sympathetic villains.

Anything Batman related. I genuinely don't like Batman. Never did. Never will. BUT I have always loved his villains.

Hans Landa (Inglorious Basterds) is a far more interesting character than Aldo Raine and arguably more interesting than Shoshanna. I also prefer Batman's villains to Batman, especially The Joker and Two-Face. I love GLaDOS to death but she doesn't really count since Chell is not really a character.

Let's just put it this way - I consider Vaas the protagonist of Far Cry 3, and he was a irredeemable psychopath who loved watching people suffer. (Doesn't hurt that he was written and voiced very well).

Seriously, die by polar bears devouring you alive, Jason Brody. I hope you feel every fucking bit of it.

I don't know if I liked him more than the protagonists strictly speaking... But I liked Makishima from the anime Psycho-Pass a lot, and by the end was rooting for his plan to succeed.

I also tend to like villains in movies where the protagonist is a generic macho action guy, and has no real reason to be as good as he is. Like in Die Hard, I actually wanted Alan Rickman's character to escape with the money. Now normally I love Bruce Willis, but in that movie I just didn't care for him that much. He was never humanized, while the villain was much more interesting and entertaining.

I'm surprised there hasn't been mention of Spec Ops: The Line yet; you have to have played the game to really understand why, but, without wishing to spoil, in the end, your view on the game and its character is completely shifted.

I was thinking of listing him but I get filled with a lot of self-loathing after the incident in the game. I feel no sympathy for this bastard.

Caius Ballad, one of many Antagonists from the FF 13 area. This guy is legit. Given immortality to protect a Seer that would reincarnate infinitely, and would die at a tragically young age because of the time line changing. He cared for her as the concept and each of the individuals who were slightly different more then anything else, and in his pity for watching her die over and over makes the decision to destroy time. The conviction to become the enemy of the gods themselves for a girl. His character is far better than either Serah or Noel (who I had to look up his name he was so boring).

All of his actions were driven for a girl that suffered countless times before him and he would destroy time itself to stop her pain. I'd say that makes for a good character.

Frankly I think it is a shamed that this character has been marred by the otherwise lack luster games he has been in.

I would like to give a shout-out to Hades from Disney's Hercules. It's been a while since I watched it, but I must admit, I found Hercules to be boring, a decent hero, but a bit predictable, where as Hades... Hoo-boyo. I'm not entirely sure if I would mind all that much to go to hell if he's the one there to greet me...

Hazama in BlazBlue is the hands down best thing in the game. Ragna as the main character is boring as hell and Noel while being better is still a total coward. Every line out of Hazama's evil as fuck mouth is totally brilliant and his outfit is awesome.

"I'm really not the fighting kind of guy y'know?"

I do wish Mu-12 had been given more screen time and characterisation aside from simply being the final boss though. Apparently this is going to destroy the entire world singlehandedly

I would love to know how game, I really would and I even main Mu-12. There's something about her hatred of everything and everyone including her own existence which is really interesting to me but within the plot Mu as a character isn't as important as getting Mu-12 back into Noel Vermillion (for some reason, Mu is fuckin' rad. Fuck Noel) so no she's just the ridiculous fanservice character with nothing to back her up.
As a MASSIVE fanboy for Guilty Gear and, By extension, Blazblue, I love Daisuke Ishiwatari's designs (At least I think he did the designs for Blazblue too...) because they're over the top and ridiculous - Except for Hazama. And Hazama is rad and don'tneedya'llanimehair or super demon arms to get his sweet kicks ... Fedoras give him all power he needs!

And this extends to more fighting games, Street fighter coming first to my mind. Bison, Akuma and Seth make much more interesting characters over Ryu and Ken.
I mean, Fucking christ, One of the Baddies uses PSYCHOPOWER and has a perma-smile. What's not to love

TL:DR Hazama, Street Fighter Baddies.
I do love BlazBlue's designs but Mu is definitely an anomaly even within other crazy character designs. She's drawn slightly differently than the rest of the cast i'm sure you've noticed. I do remember reading that the designer of Mu-12 came out and said he went with that design just because he felt like it, there was no overall reason for her looking like that. Not that i'm complaining but I always feel like I have to explain myself whenever I tell people I play her.

Hazama's outfit though... It's brilliant in its simplicity. Just give him green hair and a tight black suit with matching hat. Instant classic. Ragna just looks like your typical fighting anime main character and to be honest I don't particularly root for him at all. If Noel was the real driving main character who beats Hazama in the True Ending I would totally have loved that. What can I say, I can't resist the A-cup doubled with the stylish beret.

Noel is one step away from being one of my favourite characters but she needs to just DO something already. The moment she says "fuck this" gets up off the ground, wipes her eyes (because she's always bloody crying) and beats the fuck out of someone boom, instantly a new favourite. Noel, you could kill an average man with your bare hands. Man up.

I think CP is out in NA now? I'll have to check at some point if it ain't region locked. I need to buy a PS3 for it too so I might wait the minimum 5 years for EU localisation (localise fucking what?)

Ghiranim from Skyward Sword. Though to be honest a silent protagonist isn't huge competition. Which brings us to...

Dimentio from Super Paper Mario. 'And so we must duel, like two banjos upon a moonlit stoop! Ciao!'

Hades from Disney's Hercules. Not that I didn't like Herc but Hades stole every single scene. This could probably apply for a lot of Disney villains such as Dr. Facilier or Scar.

Kingdom Heart's Organization XIII as a whole, Axel in particular. Apparently having no heart doesn't prevent you from developing a personality.

Evil future you. 'Time to get you all off my back... literally!'

The Helghast: Had their planet forcefully taken from them. Sent to another planet which basically had a toxic atmosphere. (Or it was the Petrusite or whatever, basically bad voodoo) Went through generations of pain, suffering, and genetic adaptation to just be able to live properly on a harsh planet, and came back with a decently good and effective plan to reclaim Vekta.

That's not even mentioning how nearly every Vektan and ISA/VSA soldier i've seen is basically a jackass at best. Not to mention genocidal jackasses at worst.

I mean, not even the hilariously bad, and cartoonishly evil writing for several of the Helghast characters can convince me their worst then the ISA/VSA/Vektans or whatever. Humans. Yeah.

The Locust: Another species losing their home. Hell, as far as i've seen, and even in gameplay, the Locusts are far more capable of co-habitating with others of their same species then humans. They're also far less obnoxious and have interesting technology and vehicle systems that use organic creatures instead of oodles of death goop.

And again, their counter parts are just hideously disgusting people who, by their own actions and stupid bickering, make me want them to die.

The Snake Lady in Arkham Origins: She had Batman dead to rights. And I mean, super dead. She cuts people later then Batman and they die before him, and he even fights her, increasing circulation and should have spread the poison faster but no, Batman's like jesus or something.

And here's some that don't get reasoning: Wesker/Umbrella. The big dudes from DA:2. Haythem. Lucy. Grigori. Zeus, Ares, Sisters of Fate. (Anyone whose not Kratos). Hazama from Blazblue. The Russians.

Miles Edgeworth, Ace Attorney is an amazing series, but it at least in my opinion is held up by the opposing prosecutor ( the antagonist) not so much the title character ( hence why Apollo Justice bored me so much lol)

Hmm, any of the many, many antagonists in Neon Genesis Evangelion. This is purely because Shinji is, well, Shinji.

On a side note, I did just finish reading the manga version of the story and it's he's much better and more likeable. Still whiny sometimes, but so are a lot of 14 year olds. The end is still a bit mindfuck(of course it is) but it does actually resolve things in a positive way, rather than with choking the only other person who physically exists as a separate individual at the moment. Also, he doesn't do the one thing that made me fucking hate him as a character, that is
let Asuka die while he wallows in self-pity. Seriously, why have her become the single most happy person we've seen in the NGE universe only to have her torn to pieces?

Sticking with anime, Gunslinger Girl, a show which is much more grim than it sounds. The premise is that the Italian government employs cyborg children as assassins, mostly off the books. Also, these are young girls drawn to be as cute as possible. Basically it takes the idea that cute=good and really fucks with it. Sure, they typically hunt down criminals and terrorists, but what they are doing isn't right. I mean, they are essentially government agents assassinating citizens on their soil. If something like that came out in most any nation there would be massive outcry. Franco and Franca are terrorists, but they aren't complete monsters. They don't operate with any authority above them, so it eliminates the abuse of government power angle.

Time for videogames. The Marines in Prototype. They don't really know shit about what's going on, but they're trying to do what they can to help.

Well, although I may still like the protagonist (most of the times), these "antagonist" are my favorites...

-Colonel H. Stinkmeaner: The only blind asshole I would root for in a fight...

-Eggman/Dr. Robotnik: May not support his plans, but I do support his voice/laugh

-Any of the MLP:FiM villains (Past, Present, and [possibly] Future): My favorite, of them all, is Sombra... (Discord and Chrysalis tie for next)

-Most of the Organization XIII members: Mainly Demyx and Axel... (and probably Larxene as well, I guess...)

-Team Rocket: Always rooting for Jesse and James, it seems these days...

...I can't think of any others that are not just anti-heroes in general, at this point...

There are some hero antagonists that I thought were right in wanted to stop a villain protagonist so I wanted them to win. Examples are Hank in Breaking Bad because Walt is a horrible person that does horrible things and L in Death Note because Light is a horrible person who does horrible things. Those antagonists are the heroes.

Solidus in Metal Gear Solid 2 is an Anti-Villian. He does some bad things but I do think it is justified, the Patriots have to be stopped and by stopping him at the end of MGS2 the Patriots get what they want and win. Sure they end up being fought against again in MGS4 but still.

Then for a villain that I did just like more, Loki in Thor because come on, Loki is awesome. Also Odin is a total dick and Thor really wasn't suited to becoming king before he was exiled.
