They're obviously wrong that people learn behaviour from playing video games, because if video games have taught us anything by now, it should be how to defeat Super-Nazis.
Easy. Tell them that if they don't shut up, we'll knock down their wind farms and make an oil refinery.
I think you missed the sarcasm.
Et tu.
Shh... there was no second layer of sarcasm. The OP is talking about Super Nazis along the lines of 'Daily Mail Reading Freaks'... Murderous is obviously talking about Super Robot Hitler from Wolf3D, et al.
The second layer might not have been intentional, but it's definitely there. But now we're getting kind of meta.

What Tartan_Ninja says is true (damn it, didn't there use to be a "quote" button on here? I don't know shit about HTML). But it's not hard for kids to get hold of games without their parents' consent (through friends etc), and I think STUDIES HAVE SHOWN* a strong correlation between playing violent games and violent, disruptive real-world behaviour (maybe not mass shootings, but still). I definitely feel more aggressive after I've played something like Condemned 2 for a while, and it scares me a bit.

*That's what I read; maybe I'm being brainwashed...

With all mediums, there will always be these types of people.
Indeed, especially if the medium is new. Video games only entered the mainstream in the late 70's/early 80's and a lot of people have never touched a single game (other than solitaire) in their life. 30 years after the introduction of television many people were also still seeing it as a brainwash device for children.

don't give these people the attention they don't deserve, and they'll go away. Please, by acknowledging these few people, you will make things worse.

There's really not much you can do against these people. It's like some christians who rage against Dungeons and Dragons because it's a game of the devil. Right [http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.asp].
You mean like this [http://fanboys-online.com/index.php?comic=25].

There are six more that come right after that one you should read.

Yes I notice them. I still find it really ironic that Germany's trying to start a ban by explaining that almost all violent crimes over there were in some way caused by videogames, even though the Nazis were around way before them...

Yes apparently more people get killed every year because of videogames, it's surely not television or lifestyles or family problems or work or school or war OH NO IT'S NEVER THEM AT ALL.
Even if some killer played like 10 minutes of Gears of War 2 in a store, the media is going to go all over THAT SPECIFIC DETAIL and somehow blame that even if say the killer had clear evidence of premeditated murder like an hour beforehand.
And the worst part of it, is the people who BELIEVE that shit. Who actually think that videogames are some sort of hypnosis tool that's been around for a quarter of the century FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE of causing violence.
If that was the case, why not make a movie for less value, like Scarface encouraging you to gun down people and snort half of the world's cocaine?

Most of the people who claim that violence in videogames spawns equally violent reactions in their players are merely searching for scapegoats. It's just like parents, claiming their kids are being influenced to behave badly after playing to much GTA. Well, consider these two points mummy;

1) Who bought him the fucking game in the first place, cos I doubt little Timmy has an 18+ ID.

2) Who brought him up to think that being influenced like that was acceptable? Who didn't bring him up with the ability to discern between games and real life?

Think on. They're just looking for anything to blame but themselves.
Exactly! People will balme anything on the fact that they can't/don't/hate to spend time with there own children. The T.V is not a babysitter. As to inspiring violence, no just no. Power rangers may have made me run around the living room pretending to transform and play-fighting my friends, but it was distinct from reality. After playing Jason Storm (hehe see how many remember him) I didn't think that lazer wounds could actually be healed via a tasty hamburger. The real pychopaths, truly mental people who do go on killing sprees, they didn't need games/T.V/insert recent cultural phenomenon here, to go ballistic or direct their madness. These people should stop attacking their cyber-babysitting devices and evaluate their own parenting skills.
