My thoughts? Burn them to the ground. It's pathetic individuals that breed in hate and ignorance who attack others in this way. I understand concern. Concern is fine. Just don't give your ridiculous opinion unless it's asked for, and look long and hard at your opinion while objectively weighing the evidence for either side before reaching a conclusion. Idiotic campaigns like this wouldn't exist if people followed even those most basic of steps.

I wonder what would happen if they pointed the finger at the Bible. Anyone who's read a decent amount of it knows that there's some downright apeshit insane stuff in it. Probably mass chaos would ensue. It would be quite lovely.
It'd make a great game! :D

Collect 100 Philistine foreskins as David in order to marry into the royal family!

Cleanse the land of it's native inhabitants as Joshua!

And need we mention the Lot's daughters minigame?
And the sequel:

As David, fight a civil war against one of your sons because you refused to punish your other son for raping your daughter.

Order a soldier to the frontlines so you can sleep with his wife.

Participate in political intrigue as Solomon.

BIBLE WARS: in stock at all major video game retailers this Christmas (or better yet, Easter)!

Those pictures are pretty ridiculous. How could someone take those seriously? Are people supposed to? Ridiculous over-photoshoped idiotness if you ask me. Little kids faces photoshoped onto soldiers and shit. I can't take it seriously. Whoever made those was a dumbass and I hate them. Same goes for whoever does take them seriously.

What's there to say? It's propaganda, it's supposed to hit where it hurts.

That being said, I take it as a personal insult towards my intellect when people do this.

Having children covered in blood isn't an argument, it's an emotional kick in the nuts, and I don't know about you, but when someone kicks me in the nuts, I tend to do what they ask me to do (unless it's completely irrational, by my standards).

If they want to something to me, then they should respect me enough to explain it to me. This shows me that not only do they have no respect for the people they're trying to talk to, but since they're trying to portray themselves as peers to these people, they have no respect for themselves, either. It saddens me.

Apologies Abound

Badly photoshopped kids on US Marines is badly photoshopped kids on US Marine's body.

I think they're taking violent gaming a little bit to far.

Funny how there aren't any age restrictions on books...

There have been studies which show that kids who watch scary movies get fewer nightmares than kids who read scary stories. It seems, the imagination of a child is a lot more effective than that of the eye of a director.

And, while I can't speak for all kids, I read a WHOLE lot more when I was a child...

Parents who try to get violent games banned are just plain silly. It won't work because the right to create, produce and distribute these games are protected under the right to free speech which most developed countries have.

They just want to ruin everyone else's fun because they're too damn lazy to be real parents for a change and make sure that their children play age appropriate games. They don't want to take ten seconds out of their precious time to look at the rating. How do you think kids get those games anyway? The stores won't sell them to anyone under 17 without a parent/guardian present.

Plus the studies on whether or not video games promote violence have been inconclusive, and they try to pass it off as fact that playing/watching violent things as a child will turn you into an inherently violent adult. It's ridiculous, it's saddening, and it's insulting.

I dunno, I thought the non-marine ones might've made good, "Hey parents, pay attention to the ratings, and watch what your 6 year old is playing," ads, with a bit of change in the text and such. As The_Logician said, the "emotional kick in the nuts", might point people towards not handing a 6 year old a shooter, without talking about it first.

I agree. It's not about what they will do to your children (pfff), it's about only allowing kids to play these games when they're mature enough to understand it.

It should be the same as other media. We don't have all these anti-film pictures do we?

This is stupid, some idiots decide to commit the Columbine massacre and all of us suffer for it, fucking typical.

Ugh, this thread makes me sad on so many levels. Let's approach them on a case-by-case basis, shall we? Let's begin.

Congratulations, you've been upgraded to the title "Hypocrite." With it comes a brand new advertising scheme, blind ideals, and self-serving arrogance! Let me pull a single sentence from your clearly slanted advertisement: Often brutal and manipulating.

Now, aside from the blatant misuse of grammar, I'm going to really focus on that last word there. This is propaganda, which is defined as "information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc."

The group in question is game makers (and by association, gamers themselves), and you mark them as serial killers, sociopaths, and criminals. You cite no sources, nor do you particularly identify your reasoning for this hate speech, so you're automatically trying to manipulate the target audience into believing games are something they're not. By showing shock images, and hitting close to home with your statements, you're fear-mongering parents and family members around children. Which is a form of, you guessed it, manipulation. Congratulations!

Oddly enough, it's people like you guys that tend to inspire propaganda like this in the first place. As gamers, we aren't in positions to be on level-ground with people like this. We're seen as antagonistic, borderline-sociopath, and mentally unstable. Statements like these show examples of what image we're trying to deny, not put forth. I appreciate a joke as much as the next guy, but we're playing damage control, not "screw the world." I see the sarcasm, I see the humor, but I don't see people that make ads like these, and the targets thereof, doing anything but finding more ammo from this.

No offense, gents, but let's tone this down a bit.

And let's not forget Looney Tunes, or action movies, or any other literature. Frankly, violent media produces this effect, be them interactive or not. Until people can learn the difference, it should be up to the parents to teach these kinds of things. If these things aren't taught, then it's not the media's fault for suggesting it (as it's everywhere, in all of our forms of entertainment), but rather the parents fault for not... well... parenting.

Granted, there are exceptions to every instance, but considering the only thing that gets televised is the worst of gamers, why is it unfair to mention the worst of parents? You can't have the best of both worlds.

I fully agree with both of those statements... Just like peta, the gameover thing has what might have been good ideas at some point (okay, probably not), but all of those are washed away in the complete violent militancy that abounds within it.
