I haven't updated my anti virus program in quite some time (I think I've got some old version of antivir). I was wondering what people around these parts were using that's either free or pretty cheap.

AVG Free is a decent enough, free anti-virus with constant updates.

I've found the best antivirus to be exclusively downloading from trusted sites and sources.

I've used AVG for ages and it's always done the job, albeit that it hasn't had much of a job to do because...

I use Kaspersky. I guess AVG Free would be all you need, though. At least if you have some common sense about the sites you visit, and files you download. I still think it's worth it to pay for a program that gives you excellent protection, as opposed to just decent.

AVG Free.

I hate Avast just because it goes "Virus software updated" usually fucking loud when I'm trying to shoot things in the face.

AVG is nice, just shuts up and does its job itself without complaining or showing off by telling me like a kid. "Hey Daddy look I did it! I did it Daddy!".
I don't care!

Symantec and Norton are effectively the same thing as far as I can tell. I think Symantec is slightly more 'embedded' in that you can't really tinker with it too much, but all it really does is act as the Update Client for Norton, on my computer at least.

I use Spyware Terminator. It's a free anti-virus and anti-spyware all in one. I did a test between AVG, Spyware Doctor and Spyware terminator. Spyware Terminator did the job 100% better than both of them. AVG and Spyware Doctor spotted 10 things on my computer. Spyware Terminator found 1,439.

You want a good Anti-Virus program... Huh. You should try Linux.

Exactly my thoughts. I paid $40 for a year of Kaspersky, which is, a very good program. It's particularly expensive either.

I AVG is good (2nd hand knowledge), avast is awesome (1st hand knowledge). Avast updates on its own almost daily and scans every little bit of code that is downloaded onto your computer and stops your computer from downloading when it spots a virus. I don't know what makes AVG good sadly.
