Now that Christmas has come and gone the stream of games has severely dried up, with only a couple of big titles due anytime soon. Because of this, I've been scrolling through Areostream's release calendar and I noticed a couple of games that I may be interested in, the Hitman HD trilogy and the Bioshock Ultimate Rapture edition. I have not played any Hitman games, although I have played Bioshock 2 and did enjoy it, I am commonly told that it is crap compared to the first (which I have not played). Also now that I think about it, I never got any of the Bioshock 2 DLC, like Minerva's Den. Really all I'm asking is, can I get a recommendation on these two games? Has anyone else gotten them that can vouch for them?

Bioshock 2 had the more satisfying gameplay and game feel, but the first was better in most aspects. 2 wasn't bad, but 1 is a lot better.
If you played but haven't finished Bioshock 2 I'd say go get the Bioshock thingy.
As for Hitman... they're more hit and miss. I played Blood money and enjoyed it even if I did have to use a guide most of the time, but get prepared for some often unintuitive gameplay and irritating implementation of stealth if you do get it.

Hitman has not aged all that gracefully; it's a little creaky, there's quite a lot of questionable AI and the late-game missions are underwhelming, BUT Hitman is completely unique and worth anyone's time, and it pretty much goes upwards in quality to Blood Money, so it's a nice progression. Do yourself a favour and play on the harder difficulties, try not to save-scum; that's kind of what weakened the experience for me, especially being able to track everyone and everything on the map.

As for Bioshock, see above, these two collections ain't fer everyone, but if you've played 2, then 1 is probably going to feel like a retread, gameplay-wise, because there's not all that much different. Of course I enjoyed it because it was just more Bioshock.

tough call, both are great collections! I think the combat in bioshock 2 was more refined (as well as upgrades) but bioshock 1 definitely has the better story.

The hitman games are what i'd call a unique kind of stealth game. No other game (except dishonoured recently) has tried the hitman formula of stealth. IE: Being dumped into a semi-open level and told to figure it out.

Blood money probably has the most refined gameplay (its the newest one in the collection afterall). But playing 2&3 is still fun (3 has a great, dark tone to it). I'm saying this as a longtime fan though, once i worked out what the "rules" were. Until it clicked the stealth in these games was VERY frustraiting. With a lot of saving and loading. I actually disliked the games until i learnt how to play them.

The options in these games didnt start to kick in until hitman 3. 2 does feel like there is only one "correct" way to do the missions.

TLDR. Do you want an FPS with a great story/ atmosphere, or a unique (if sometimes frustraiting) stealth game? Both collections have a hell of a lot of content.

If you have a PC I would recomend skipping on the Hitman HD trilogy since all it does is make the older games play in HD tv's without looking blurred, they didnt change textures and models so its basicly the same as the PC version of those games (and for that you only need to wait for a Steam sale, maybe now during the easter, and get them all for around 7$ max).

Bioshock is very much worth your time so maybe thats the best consideration although the Hitman trilogy does have more "game" in it.

EDIT: Actually Hitman Contracts isnt in Steam wich is weird since they even include the first one in their Hitman franchise pack, the first one is kind of crappy but the third one is mostly a remake of the first so... yeah... the plot thickens...

Personally, I'm a Hitman fan. Granted like hazabaza1 said earlier they're hit and miss at times but are definitely worth playing. I just bought the newest Hitman game (Hitman: Absolution), and it is possibly the hardest Hitman I've played to date, but worth buying.

Now the Bioshock games are definitely worth playing. It's been a while since I've played a game that has caused emotion in me. Bioshock can get me to be pumped up that I defeated a splicer, and make me scared to death because I don't know what to expect in the next room. Both Bioshock 1 and 2 are games that have revolutionized the FPS genre.

I can attest to Minerva's Den being brilliant. In fact, even though only being 1/10 the length of the proper Bioshock games, I probably enjoyed the story and it's twist even more then theirs. I'd recommend the Bioshock pack, simply cause they're a lot easier to get into and a lot more fun then the Hitman series. I mean, yeah Hitman is good, but if you want to play it properly it's a lot slower paced and requires massive patience. I'd only pick it up if you actually like that style of gameplay. Blood Money is probably the best reason to do so.
