I just finished "Wolf's Rain" and might I say it was incredible, but now i'm looking for another anime to get hooked on and to be quite frank, i'm at a loss. I'm in to more dramatic toned, serious type animes. So any anime suggestions?

Spice & Wolf and Monster are excellent dramatic pieces. The former is all about excellent character interplay and medieval merchant life, while the latter is a heavy noir suspense thriller.

I suppose aspects of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni could qualify as well, it's certainly dramatic at times, though it's really more a psychological horror mystery clad in a lighthearted tone.

1. Serial Experiments Lain, It's The Second coming of Jesus, I even did a review!!! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.214642-Sacmans-Sac-tastic-Anime-Review-Serial-Experiments-Lain]

2. Ergo Proxy, A lot of people say Ergo Proxy is an anime you have to think about but on reflection it feels more like a parody or satire of over pretentious anime like Eva. The last episode is even titled "Deus Ex Machina."

3. Elfen Lied, What this show does is hard to explain. It's gory and bloody and filled with tasteless nudity but I loved it. Elfen Lied just got me so attachedto the characters that come the end I cried...

4. Welcome To The NHK. It's hard to explain... I mean it's really the only slice of life I've ever loved this much but I'm just not exactly sure why. It could be the pitch black humor, the realistic characters, the social satire, or even the brilliant writing. Honestly, however, I think it's more the fact that Sato's, The main character's, situation hit's very close to home for me...

5. FLCL. I hate to sound like everyone else but FLCL is 6 episodes of awesome craziness!!!

6. Blue Sub No. 6. I used to watch this as a kid on Toonami and I really didn't get it but going back to watch all 4 episodes now I can safely say it's one of the most polished OVA series I've ever see, with an amazing soundtrack, great action, great animation, a standout art style, and one of the most coherent messages about human nature I've seen in anime.

7.Gundam The 08TH MS Team. It really stands out for me because it's one of the few Gundam series that give a general sense of fear because the action is unpredictable and the characters really endear themselves to the audiance...

8. Paranoia Agent. It's a truly great murder mystery that keeps you guessing at every turn but look past that and you'll find a very intriguing deconstruction of the human mind...

9.Gungrave. Possibly one of the most underrated shows I've seen. Gungrave is a truly great story about friendship, love and betrayal without ever falling into cheesiness the great animation, spectacular fight scenes and well thought out character development doesn't hurt either.

10.Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Despite having no real plot, since I consider Kai and Rei to be non canon, Higurashi is one of the most atmospheric and frightening shows I've ever seen. It constantly keeps you guessing and always gives a feeling of paranoia and dread...

For serious anime, try Clannad (and Clannad after story), and Welcome to the NHK.

But most of all Clannad and Clannad after story. If something will make you cry, this is probably it.

Or you could just try looking in one of the other anime recommendation threads.

Edit: Angel beats is also really nice, and it's only 12 or 13 episodes.

The Last Exile. It's one of the few anime I like and I have great taste. Ask anyone. Except in Panama, fuck those guys. The show is very unique and hard to describe. Kind of steampunk with horrors-of-war, comradeship, honour, sacrificeand mystery themes

These are all good suggestions and really nice review Sacman, but I need stuff a little shorter. I am on base alot and don't get a lot of free time. Though on my first leave, I will be sure to check out as many of these as I can :D

Baccano
Gungrave
GAD Guard
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Saiyuki
Tekkaman Blade
Monster
Ghost in the Shell
RahXephon
All are great More Dramatic and serious anime.

Tekkaman Blade has a lot more action and can be pretty light hearted, but it gets really good and mixes the drama and action really well for a series as old as it is.

Clannad and Clannad After Story. It's just the perfect anime. Relatable and loveable characters, fantastic drama, hilarious comedy, interesting story (except for maybe the Kotomi arc, but meh, that just depends on your preferences, I personally loved it), some fight scenes to kix things up and the most tear-jerking scenes in all of anime. I am not being sarcastic when I say that you WILL cry, and you will cry lots.

EDIT: I can also recommend Bokurano, it's starts with a rather simple plot, but quickly develops it into something extremely engaging and interesting. It has a great cast of well-written characters that you genuinely care for, it's just brilliant, even if it can at times be very, very depressing.

I think we need a sticky thread on this topic that simply says "Have you seen Cowboy Bebop yet? No? See it NOW!"

This is a really good serious anime that I just started to watch its called Shigofumi it deals with a mail carrier from the land of the dead who delivers letters from the deceased to whoever they choose.

Each episode deals with different themes like bullying, suicide, child abuse, love, etc. And throughout the episodes you learn a bit more of the mail carrier and its pretty interesting its not a long anime only 12 episodes. And there is no stupid fanserivce or comedy for the sake of comedy.

Darker than Black is good if you haven't tried it yet.
This too Darker Than Black is pretty awesome... It would be like number 11 or 12 on my top anime ever... but I only went up to 10...<.<

I always forget to suggest The last exile, even though it's one of my all time favourites. Beautiful animation as well.

Arghhh another one I want to rewatch now, shame it just takes so long for Monster to really get going. You get a great feeling of satisfaction at the end though.
