Wow no-ones mentioned the Battlestar Galactica board game yet!
Its got to be the best board game I've ever played, and the expansions make it even better (although I haven't found the time to play it with all of the expansions at once yet).

Catan, me and my friends usually have massive games of it when we are back on our breaks from uni and they often take up entire afternoons/evenings. Killer Bunnies is one we have been playing recently which is also great fun.

Articulate is epic and I play it at almost all gatherings of mates I have. Similarly, Pictionary is awesome.

My wife and I play lots of games just the two of us or with friends. My favorites tend to be Settlers of Catan, Arkham Horror, Ticket to Ride, Talisman, Carcassonne, Shadows over Camelot, Kingsburg, and Chrononauts (technically a card game, but a large selection of cards have to be laid out as a sort of board during the game). I really enjoy Monopoly, but since I can usually win it in about 30 minutes, no of my friends and family won't play it with me anymore.

Choice of 2 here, either:
Junta - Take a government position in a banana republic, winner is the player who can embezzle the most funds into their swiss bank account.
Kill Dr. Lucky - Think of a prequel to Cleudo.

My friends and i get together just about every weekend to play board games. we like to play such games as pandemic, arkham horror, castle ravenloft( though now we just play D&D), and new to our gaming line up ghost stories.

we have several expansions of arkham horror but tend to play the vanilla version because we do like to win from time to time. it might be just my opinion but i feel the expansions to arkham tend to make the game ridiculously difficult with the heralds and new monsters that are just about invincible. still a fun game.

I can't say I like anything that requires as much dedication as those listed above, but I do like to play:

Quarto - one of my friends and I are regular competitors. It's a good time to relax, play some catch up and blow off some steam.
Cranium - many a time have I gotten plastered playing this with groups of friends. Nothing quite like attempting charades when you can barely stand up.
Monopoly - sometimes, I'm just in that enterprising mood.

Are you kidding? That's the only way one SHOULD play. It provides the most challenge and (depending on the number of players) it provides the best irreverent cluster catastrophes in the game, which are always a blast. To each his own, I suppose. Were you playing the original, or the re-release if you don't mind me asking?

Huge fan of like 90% of Knizia's stuff (if you don't know Reiner Knizia, you don't REALLY play boardgames ;) ), in particular I love Ra, Amun Re and Lost Cities. I'm also a huge fan of Puerto Rico and Settlers of Catan, of course two of the biggest classics. Thunderstone is a great game as well, in my opinion if you like Dominion but wish it had a slightly better theme and more interaction, you'll love Thunderstone. I actually really dislike Dominion, but that's more because I had a bad experience with it: I was playing with all experienced players, and before I could even determine what my cards did, it was my turn again. I felt rushed, annoyed, and unable to appreciate any of the nuances of the game. I see why it has a following, and where it can fit in for a regular gaming group, but I am not a fan.

For a more gamble-y type game, I highly recommend Can't Stop. It's about as elegant as you can get, and the game is damned exciting if you find that sort of thing exciting. It's all about risk/reward and pushing your dice rolls to the limit.

My newest game acquisition was Battles of Westeros (or FOR Westeros, I forget and am too lazy to check), which is a BattleLore inspired game based on the Game of Thrones universe. I had a disappointing first game, but it was in part because my opponent, who was much more familiar with BattleCry, gave up his commanders far more easily than should have happened, and I ended up wiping the board with him. Also played recently were 6 Nimmt and Age of Steam.

EDIT: hehehe, post 1414

I'm mainly a tabletop gamer (Warhammer 40.000 being my main hobby), but I also dabble in boardgames.

I like a lot of Games Workshop's games, like Space Crusade, Space Hulk or HeroQuest. Other than that, I've also been playing:

- Wings of War
- IDF
- Hitler's War
- Shadows Over Camelot
- Mall of Horror
- Aliens: The Game (awesome squad based tactical game based on the movie)
- Rise of the Empire
- Cry Havoc
- Fief II
- Descent

And I believe that's about it for recent games.

We have the original (as far as I know, it's the original, anyway), Phil Foglio artwork and all. Also some of the expansions.

I don't spite anyone for liking it. I just get tired of watching multiple turns worth of plan collapse because of those "irreverent cluster catastrophes". A single oversight or a tiny amount of spite or whimsy on another player's part, and suddenly a player is so far behind that not only do they no longer have a chance of winning, but no real chance to even have an effect on the overall outcome of the game. (And if that game is played over, say, four boards, with the flags placed like that, that's easily two hours of watching other people move.) It's just not good for my blood pressure, and as I say, even when I win it may well be because someone else made a catastrophic mistake or did something that screwed everyone else over, but I somehow escaped through no particular skill of my own.

Hmm... at the moment; probably Battlestar galactica the board game. It's pretty awesome.
Gotta agree, however it's hard to find 4 to 5 people who want to put the time in.

I get that. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. Myself? I love how chaotic the game can get, yet I will agree that "leader break-away syndrome" can happen and can be a deal breaker to some folks. However there are numerous places on the web, where people have tried to address ways to prevent "leader break-away syndrome" via house-rules. (ex. http://roborally.gamerz.net/faq.htm). But don't just take that one as there are a myriad of others to suit all game tastes. All I'm saying is don't give up on the game just yet. Because once you get a solid group of robo-regulars together, game sessions can turn magical.
