Hello Escapists

This is a question for anyone out there who knows a thing or two about costumes, particularily those that require the use of body paint. I am planning on attending a convention with a group of friends and we are going as characters from the movie Avatar (Jake, Neytiri, Quartich and Norm). As such, the question has come up as to the best way to make ourselves blue. We found a place that sells liquid latex stuff, and another that sells some 'soap and water' stuff. Which is better? This is keeping in mind the the convention takes place around a lot of other costumes (who may not appreciate becming blue as well)and that it may be hot (so sweating is a danger)

What do you escpaist constume experts suggest?(other than not going of course, i have gotten enough people with that suggestion already) Latex, soap 'n water or something else entirely?

OKay.... Go!!!

A moment on google showed me a number of businesses that specialise in FX/body paint product. The one thing that struck me straight away is that if you have decided on a body paint to use one created for that purpose (and I would recommend doing a spot test on your skin in advance before you paint your whole body).

I don't know about liquid latex. Not only will you sweat in it but my experience of it is that it is really designed to be peeled off so if you planned to wear it for a long time then attrition and heat might damage it and ruin the look.

wolfe brothers makes great body makeup. but i recommend buying one of their special sponges to apply the makeup, if you try to use normal makeup sponges it will smear, and probably take you at least two or three hours to apply.

here is a picture of my friend wearing it as mystique:

we made the mistake of using the wrong sponges to apply it so it cracked at her joints a bit. this makeup once it is dry though, will not rub off. it looks and feels great and there is a lighter blue that might be perfect for a na'vi costume
good luck, bodypaint is much harder than it seems
