Any flight simmers out there?

I decided to re-install my copy of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force tonight and it made me wonder. How many people out there actually see flight simulations as entertaining (combat or otherwise). Yeah, I know there are some out there (like Falcon 4.0) that have ridiculous learning curves, and they attract a special kind of individual, but what about others? That is why I created this thread. I am curious as to how much experience my fellow Esacpists have with flight simulators, and whether or not anyone finds them enjoyable. I know I could spend hours on them, and I do on occasion.

Thoughts? Experiences? Opinions?

I used to love them on windows 98, but sadly I haven;t really played many since then because I haven't found any high quality ones. I'm open to recommendations.
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force comes to mind, but it has one hell of a learning curve. It pretty much teaches you how to fly a real F-16. No Joke... You really can if you study the (over 700 page) manual.

I once owned a MS Flight Simulator game, 2000 IIRC.

I spent 2 weeks crashing on the runway until I found out "Q" brought me to flying height, I then spent a month flying in to things before I gave up.

I love playing flight sims. Really enjoyed my first flight sim which was Eurofighter Typoon.
F/A-18 is quite good aswell.

Maybe ill get Falcon 4.0 and a new stick, shame Falcon V was canceled, and as far as I know there are no other realistic modern combat sims under development

It's a shame Falcon V was canceled. It's such a wonderful franchise!

I suppose that's the problem with the genre as a whole. It's extremely rewarding to be able to master the controls of an aircraft in a simulation. It's a major obstacle though since simply getting started can be a huge hurtle.

I have always debated with fellow simmers between the concepts of realism and accessability. Sometimes having too much of one or the other can kinda ruin the experience.

Umm... Do the Ace Combat games count? I love those games because I wanted to join the Air Force when I was younger... Now... My plots have shifted.

When I first got word of that Tom Clancy was making a flight sim I got really exited only to learn its gonna be all arcade style. I did end up trying out HAWX but got bored after about 2 hours

I have yet to try HAWX. I heard the same thing... Just fly and gun - No real controls.

You could try the demo. [http://www.gamershell.com/download_40308.shtml]

I enjoyed it but it was comparable to flying in Battlefield2.

9 years ago I didn't really care for games that didn't have a bucket of blood per second on the screen. When I later played the game again, it wasn't too bad but I had already given up on any kind of simulation game.

I played a fair bit of MS Flight Sim 2002, mostly flying small planes around the Boston area/doing recreational flying. As a general matter, though, I like a little bit more going on when I'm gaming, and prefer business/economic simulations to flight sims.
