Any free games on steam?

I already got all the gems of the PS2 era:
Shadow of the colossus
Ace combat 4
Devil may cry
God of war 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
All the PS2 Final fantasys (Except 11 which is impossable to find)
All I really need is ICO which is rarer then a Chest Hair on Justin Beiber

Those are some of the insanely popular games of the PS2 era, but hardly all of the gems -- or even all of the popular ones. The Zone of the Enders, Armored Core, and Timesplitters games, for example, would all like a word with you. There are also plenty of lesser known games out there that, while not necessarily up to the standard of the more famous examples, are worth a playthrough, especially at a price of $1-$5. I got a couple for Christmas that I can't wait to try out (my PS2 is locked up in my on campus apartment at the university, while I'm home for Christmas and New Years.) After all, the main reason Sony won two console wars in a row was that the low barrier to getting a game released on the system allowed a whole lot of stuff to get released, which made for a larger number, if not necessarily percentage, of good games than the competition had.

Oh sweet jesus. I just found out that I can use the Retail code from my Unreal Tournament 3 that i bought from Best buy a year ago can be used on steam. So my steam library incread by one even though my actual game library did not. How swell.

Just have Steam running and pick the Install links to install the games to your Steam account.

! have Armored core but never found it that good, and I lost my Timespliters long ago.

Well these games look alright but none of them are as good as the games I want but cannot get because I no got a credit card herp derp. And because of that i will never get Bioshock or Portal. FML

Portal's been free at least twice, keep an eye on Steam and the escapist forums and it may well happen again... I'd not be surprised if it happened when 2 comes out.

Burnout Paradise has been free twice on the EA site, too, anything like that happens again and I'll thread it if no-one beats me to it.

Alien Swarm is free, and I got Half Life 2 deathmatch for free, although I don't remember how I did it. Actually, every game I have on steam was either free or a gift.

Alien Swarm, Trackmania nations are what I know of and both are fun as hell.
